Not many people smoke anymore. I wonder if cigarettes are going to come "back in style" one day?
Pretty sure a lot of people still smoke, especially the ones who have been for 10+ years or so. There are a lot of people switching to e-cigs now, but the ones I know still smoke actual cigarettes as well.

Doubt it. Most smokers have been smoking for years. These days we know just how awful it is for you, and it's advertised so much that few are silly enough to start.
I never really understood why anyone would pay money to inhale smoke containing carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, 69 different carcinogens, etc. while poisoning everyone around them with their second-hand smoke.
I don't get why people get all preachy about people smoking. Most here, when informed you dislike smoke in your face, will either move away with a polite 'sorry' or butt out. They are already corralled into tiny little places away from the general public so you know what areas to avoid. I mean, I think people who keep poisonous snakes and spiders stupid, but I'm not going to be up in their face about it shouting "DON'T YOU KNOW THEY COULD KILL YOU? WHAT IF THEY GOT OUT? THEY KILL OTHER PEOPLE? NOT ONLY COULD YOU MURDER YOURSELF BUT EVERYONE AROUND YOU!" I just think. "Fair enough, to each their own. I'm not going to go near the smoker's section/their house. ... Woah.. everything is exactly the same as before and I'm not affected in any way at all, still."
I smoke, some really nasty menthols no less.
When you can beat my five mile, we'll talk. Nothing is better than a nice smoke before a forced run at 4am. In some circles, it's quite common.
At this point, I'm fairly sure I still smoke just to troll non-smokers. It's not like cigarettes taste particularly good, now that they've banned my old-school Djarum Blacks with the dipped filters that tasted like gingerbread and win. I heard a rumour that they still sell those in Canada, and I have been tempted, more than once, to make the drive.
While I'm on the subject of things I adored as a goth, I want @Ourania's jacket!
My avatar is an image created by this very talented gentleman, of whose work I am extremely jealous. It was not originally a picture of Amunet, but it certainly looks a great deal like how I envision her!

Well, mr pee pants, thanks for making my Marlboro all long and confusing looking, all you had to say is that it is indeed a smooth one, instead.
My old neighbor hated smokers bad, she was a crackpot about anyone smoking anywhere. But she ended up gettin the 'beetis and dying young
But yeah I still use her old birdbath as an ashtray. Just has that shape that sorta beckons one to put a cigarette out in.
Having worked for and with smokers, I have to say I really don't like it. It makes people really unpleasant to work with when they smell of smoke and tobacco, which in a small office is nasty.
Plus there's no real 'smoking area' on campus, but you aren't allowed to smoke in buildings. So what does everyone do? Congregate around the entrance of buildings and smoke. Accommodation, lecture halls, library, student building, you name it. I've had to force my way through a crowd of a dozen smokers to reach lectures whilst holding my breath because that smoke can set of my asthma and I refuse to die before I finish University.
On the other hand, I can repeat one of my favorite phrases. I'm OK with people making decisions; with the caveat that they do so without making me walk through it.
Also @Xenomorph: Just out of interest, what *is* your five mile time?
Not many people smoke anymore. I wonder if cigarettes are going to come "back in style" one day?
I'm one of a few people I know who don't smoke. You must be lucky to be living in such a clean air area. I swear I will die of lung cancer due to second hand smoking.
"Faded away like the stars in the morning, Losing their light in the glorious sun, Thus would we pass from this earth and its toiling, Only remembered for what we have done."
Probably quite a derail at this point but yes, there's freedom of choice and some smokers do show common courtesy. However, justify your reasons whichever way you want, it's considered a filthy habit which has detrimental consequences to everyone who would would otherwise, like to be un-involved with your bad habit.
I mean, if the best response you can come up with is "Haha, too bad! I hope it kills you too." then there isn't really a case worth debating.
I don't even smoke that often-- when I'm out drinking with friends, basically. But every time someone has ever gotten preachy and up in my face about how DON'T I KNOW SMOKING IS BAD??? outside of a bar (it's always outside of a bar), it's while I've had a lit cigarette in my hand. Apparently they don't mind the smell or health consequences that much!

Also a smoke after. And in one case that got me in some trouble, during.
I never say anything to smokers. I just give them a look that lets them know how they've just revealed how inherently inferior a person they are to me by having an addiction. *sips coffee*
No problem with smokers. I don't tell them to stop or anything. My dad smoked when I was little and my grandad (bless his soul) was a chain smoker so I think some part of me sort of associates the faint smell of ciggies with more innocent times >_>
Realistically speaking though, I can understand why people get huffy about smokers. I just wish they would be more honest about it instead of telling them "you're killing yourself!", because face it, we're all killing ourselves in one way or another. A man with a cig lights up and takes a filtered drag of whatever
treated leaf he likes. And all around him, the people are inhaling
exactly that. Except unfiltered. If anything, you should be telling them that they're committing multiple homicides by poisoning >_>
My dad knew a man who was such a chain smoker that when he tried to stop (presumably to stop killing himself), his health deteriorated so quickly, the doctor gave up and told him to just go back to smoking. He was an old man anyway.
I am a heavy smoker, and have been for 19 years now, though I have adapted with the times. I won't smoke in non-smokers houses or cars, even if they say it is fine. It isn't, it stinks. I have moved on to rolling my own with menthol filters, which I have found I smoke less off than normal smokes, and also are cheaper.
At this point, I'm fairly sure I still smoke just to troll non-smokers. It's not like cigarettes taste particularly good, now that they've banned my old-school Djarum Blacks with the dipped filters that tasted like gingerbread and win. We both got tagged by the dumbass ban (I smoked Specials, not Blacks though). And, you can recreate them yourself, if you're really craving them. Like Ourania, I roll my own, but if you sprinkle freshly-ground cloves in with the tobacco (I use pipe tobacco, too, not regular 'cigarette' tobacco), it works. Has to be freshly ground, though - buy whole cloves and grind yourself. The pre-ground shit you get in the spice department is dry, and doesn't have the same flavor.
If you use filters with your roll ups, you can also touch the end of the filter (closest to the tobacco) with some clove oil (used for tooth ache usually). I don't know if you get flavoured tobacco where you are, we have loads of it here, and flavoured papers and filters.

I love those e-cigs, Blu is pretty good. I can't smoke in a lot of places and i'm to lazy to go outside so I just break out the e-cig and have at it
Can we please get this off the topic of smoking. I don't know how but apparently people are actually willing to debate the issue of good/bad/don't care/personal choice and I really don't think that this is the place for it.

It's helping really, giving them motivation to give up just so that they can stay inside where it's nice and warm.
