That's why you avoid it like the plague if you want to keep the idea of the character in your head, or you can always just... wait, things cannot be unseen.. nvm
I don't know how gamers date/marry non-gamers. I'd go crazy.
Ironically, I started dating (and ended up marrying) a non-gamer after having dated a fellow Achaean for about three years. (Can you believe that after our first date, I had Metzger on MSN giving me dating advice 'cause I was out of touch with completely OOC dating? Herenicus is entirely right when he says do not neglect your real main character.)
Hubby is incredibly tolerant of my gaming habits and doesn't mind listening to me rant and rave about the game, but you would not believe the look he gave me when I started explaining about the squirming lizard fetuses in the latest event.
On another note: our kitties seem to love the big window of our new place, to the point where they don't even wait for us to open the blinds in the morning. Normally, the calico glomps and knocks the grey off his perch, but they seem to be cooperating this morning. Not sure what that means...
@Jhaeli The fact he can follow along and listen, even if he doesn't exactly understand, is lovely! Not all partners are willing to connect on things they aren't interested in, so that's definitely a second best. The idea of you getting dating advice from Metzger makes me giggle non-stop though. :P Also, love your kitties. Mine was the same exact way - she loved watching the world go by on a windowsill. (Also, log in more!)
@Idelisa, the players section isn't quite so bad, but this is why I wouldn't want to see pictures of Phaestus, or Babel, or Neraeos. Mystery in the garden helps me remain in awe! Although to be fair, Clementius would be the exception - he looks/acts as awesome OOC as IC.

Still laugh when I think of the pimped up photo of Sarapis with Skipicus.
"Gilgamesh, where are you hurrying to? You will never find that [everlasting] life for which you are looking. When the gods created man they allotted to him death, but life they retained in their own keeping. As for you, Gilgamesh, fill your belly with good things; day and night, night and day, dance and be merry, feast and rejoice. Let your clothes be fresh, bathe yourself in water, cherish the little child that holds your hand, and make your wife happy in your embrace; for this too is the lot of man."
@Ruth - It's not precisely as I think you look, it's the fact that my Mhaldorian is in ebonfist and Ruth WAS intimidating. But now I know the truth that you're just a doll face that couldn't scare a baby bunny, I'm sure. Not surprised that you're a girl at all, actually!
People frequently seem surprised that I'm female IRL. Was never quite sure why.
Because the general impression (true from what I know, but that's a very small sample) is that female players with male characters are much less common than male players with female characters.

I agree with @Eld, and also, you're good at roleplaying. Unless someone's really trying to act girly when their character's male or act manly when their character's female, people assume that the player is the same gender as their character. I would imagine the majority of people knowing any character for a while and then finding out that the player is the opposite gender would be surprised.
I'm dating a non-gamer and it's absolutely wonderful. I imagine if I dated a gamer we would fight so much over my crappy computers, my absolute suckiness at graphic games and we would both be extremely overweight, also my need to solve all the puzzles because you're.. "OH MY GOD NO DON'T PUT THAT TILE THERE, MOVE OVER AND LET ME DO IT."
Instead a general conversation goes. a little like this. "How's that text game going?" "Yeah good, gained a few levels, wrote some stuff." "Oh what about?" "Just -insert something about alchemy or the sea here-" "Uh, that's good right?" "Yup!" "Cool, wanna go ski/kite/to the beach/do something outside?" "Yussssss."
To each their own! My boyfriend's the reason I even discovered Achaea, and gaming is why we were able to do a LDR for five years. We connect well there, though it's only one thing, of course.
Glad to hear you two are going strong.

This was an actual conversation between me and my boy a few weeks ago. He's a non-gamer, so it always fascinates him when I stare at a wall of moving text for an hour.
My boyfriend: "What are you doing?"
Me: "Playing a game."
My boyfriend: "What sort of game?"
Me: "A fantasy text game."
My boyfriend: "I see. What's an Aitox?"
Me: "My character's name."
My boyfriend: "That's a shitty name for a character. Sounds like the opposite of Detox, like you ate like an ox."
Could not imagine the conversation I would have with a girlfriend, gamer or not, that I have a character named 'Tagg' in a text game that can turn into a magic dragon at will.
At first I thought that picture was a "lol" image macro directed at Rajan. Fits well that way, actually. After I press post comment I'm going to scroll up and read it like that again.
That guy ain't a gamer, he still uses MSN.... Also that ain't Achaea, it's some other mud unless he's making an alt or in blackout constantly... So get me some Achaea players getting caught.

Not the glowing one.
