How these studies claim to advance legitimate inferences about the relative intelligence of a species to our own based on the observed behavior of 6 individuals put in unusual situations that have little to do with crow life is kind of silly but okay.
"And in a related study, one designed to evaluate human cognition, six human researchers were given a series of tests after a brief training period during which the crows noted rapid learning. The researchers completed 2 out of 4 tasks, including building tools to fish a worm out of a hole and completing a complicated puzzle in order to obtain a food reward. However, they failed two more challenging tasks, one involving identifying from a series of aerial photographs the field which contained the most worms, and another in which each researcher was antagonized by a crow and prompted to recognize its face from a line-up. According to the authors, results indicate that despite their lack of awareness of their surroundings, human beings possess a sophisticated capacity for problem solving, rivaling that of a four month old crow."
