That moment when you call the doctor about your son being unwell and they dispatch 2 ambulances before you get off the phone, just in case one gets delayed. The staff at A&E were excellent too. I know the NHS is struggling massively but all the staff we encountered were excellent, we didn't have to wait long, and the boy is going to be fine.
After the last four months of yo-yoing job offers, I was still anxious stepping into work for the first day today... I don't know how to handle myself right now. I am near delirious with joy after completing it. I'm already doing acceptable work, the processes, policy and procedure are intuitive and clearly defined, and the perks... holy shit. Let's have a list, shall we? -
- Affordable healthcare. - $15/hr starting wage. - Free life insurance, free long-term disability and affordable short-term disability coverage. - A gym with 24/7 access. - A room with bean bags in case you need to go nap or chill out for a moment. - A ton of swag, including t-shirts, sunglasses, a double-walled beverage cup, and a -very- nice backpack for the company-issued Macbook. - Additional swag available without limit at no fee. - Free Shipt membership, discount on groceries. Some retailers have no markup on their groceries, meaning that having another human being do my shopping for me and delivering groceries from that store at my door will be cheaper than going to the store myself to do it. - A break room stocked with a wide selection of snacks and drinks, without limit and no fee. - Said break room includes a kegerator and a small assortment of liquor. Guidelines on work consumption: "Use your best judgment. No drunk driving"
I was doing some inspections on site and asked for some drawings to check results. They gave me original drawings. ORIGINAL. Completely useless but beautiful.
When I saw the player pics thread post from Tahquil I was sure she was a school teacher. I mean she -looks- like a school teacher. But if I'm not mistaken she's something like a surveyor?
Idfk, she has a more manly job than me anyway...
He is a coward who has to bring two friends as backup to jump people hunting.
A bunch of Achaeans have come together to help me lately OOCly and it really means a lot. Like, I can't say how much. It was totally unexpected and I am overwhelmed with people's care and kindness. Just
Also my job interview went well and I should hear back in a few days! And I have another second interview (for a different awesome position) at the end of next week.
Yeah, this is in addition to my other part-time job (teaching ESL)...WORK ALL THE JOBS. Interviewing for new full-time gigs for next school year though - one is teaching, one is non-profit development (for a day academy attached to the school I work at now). I am excited.
Nice. Doing computer forensics now, with a side gig fixing (and building) computers and cell phones at home as needed, and then I Uber if I get bored. It's good to stay busy.
So I took a new job back in September of 2016 as the GM of a Cajun restaurant here in town. On top of going to school full time, the position has really made me push myself harder, to manage my time better and all of that. The restaurant has been open roughly 2 years, and has struggled the entire time. Had yet to obtain profitability in any capacity. When I walked into the place, the atmosphere was terrible. Employees were disgruntled, and the owner was just about ready to pull the plug.
Fast forward six months: Our weekly sales have quadrupled, staff morale is high, and Q1 is about to end with a 7% profit margin. Even with the upswing and everything, I still have some things to address to refine our numbers better. Q2 is shaping up to return 12-15%, and our catering is starting to yield really solid returns/referrals. In the next month, we have events scheduled for nearly $10,000. Quite a bit better than the $0 I walked into!
I'm not really one to brag, but sometimes you've got to pat yourself on the back. I wouldn't have been able to do it without the team (largely selected by me), but man it feels good seeing the tangible change in the bank account. There have been times where I was doubting my ability to turn this place around, and I've struggled to find the balance between school, work, and life. It's been a ride, but it looks to be going in the right direction.

Penwize has cowardly forfeited the challenge to mortal combat issued by Atalkez.
@Atalkez is that in Plano? I'll have to look out for it when I'm next over there.
In other news, got an amazing Whisky for my 41st birthday and just cracked it open having moved into a new house this weekend. It's delightful, especially in front of the open fire.
Not only have I stopped drinking anything but water, unsweet tea and black coffee, I have been doing it for 2 months straight now and still going strong! I think I have lost some weight. A family member even said I look skinnier!
Got a food dehydrator. Made my first batch of jerky, and some banana chips. Made some rookie mistakes but still overall pretty happy with the results. Now I can have all the jerky and trail mix I want!
That's awesome! I did that with an electric motor repair company. Took it from a historical max of $750k to $2M through workforce efficiencies and inventory controls, within a year. Then the boss fired me because I said "I might be moving to SC in the next year" and because the tax credits for hiring veterans were up (only good for the first year). I hope you get to keep proving they got the right person for the job. That's an awesome turnaround. I couldn't have done that with a restaurant!
