    lol stigma =/= stigmata. Although if that happened every time someone used the word it would be pretty funny.

    Stigmata is a term used by members of the Christian faith to describe body marks, sores, or sensations of pain in locations corresponding to the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ, such as the hands, wrists, and feet

    Social stigma is the extreme disapproval of (or discontent with) a person on socially characteristic grounds that are perceived, and serve to distinguish them, from other members of a society. Stigma may then be affixed to such a person, by the greater society, who differs from their cultural norms.

    The Christian reference is the second definition point of both. Type Define: Stigma and Define: Stigmata into the Google search bar and you'll see what I'm talking about. The only difference being that Stigmata is the plural form of Stigma, according to that.

    Anyway, sorry for the unintetional, momentary derailing. Please carry on with quotes.

    Stigmata is the plural of stigma. It's rarely used, at least in English, except in reference to the Christian thing, though.
