I've actually always liked that Tsol'aa, humans, and Mhun are fairly similar. I think having each be more distinguishable would be a real loss.
In the broadest terms, it helps to reinforce the idea that humans are sort of the movers and shakers of the world, as laid out in the mythos - an idea that's easy to lose sight of when most players opt for more exotic and "interesting" options. Having three more-humanoid races makes this sort of anthropocentric theme feel a little more palpable.
In narrower terms, the aesthetic ties help tie the races together historically. The Mhun and human relationship is an interesting piece of lore that connects to a lot of other bits of lore and gets reinforced by their similarity. Similarly for the Tsol'aa/human relationship - the idea that the humans are new kids on the block usurping the favoured status of the much older Tsol'aa works much better when the races are actually extremely similar.
In the end, I think having aesthetic similarity that hides very different histories and attitudes is a very positive thing.
