Bastard sword will be better hinder and better damage pressure (can stick sensitivity). You can runeblade a hammer, but can only dsb with a sword. Weapon stats don't impact dsb though, so that's not really an issue (you could fight with hammer until the breaks, switch to unartied bastard, impale, dsb).

I think it's better to get, say, level 2 bastard and level 1 hammer, like Kenway said, than level 3 hammer.

There's a chance they tank it, this is Antonius' DSB chart and it looks accurate to me.  Absolute max strength you can get as a runie 22 and paladin is 24.  Infernal doesn't have a strength increasing skill so should be maxed at 22 as well.

You need at least four leg fractures to be disemboweling. They're not gonna be at full health. If you're worried, you can brain as a follow up. Or as Mathilda said, get them to 6 tendons. Or break before the devastate for a 2-3 break. If the question is efficient use of credits for arties, maxing strength to 21 or 22 is not an efficient use.

Hammer is faster, bastard slower hits harder. Bastard sword is better DPS, though, from what I've observed!

And yes, if you're artifacting up, get L2 bastard and L1 hammer. I personally use both weapons in my fights: hammer breaks limbs faster, while bastard sword can be envenomed.

@Kenway - Some dudes roll with damage mitigation, level 3 health regen and passive health regen.  There are definitely better use of credits but saying if you want the DSB to be a 100% instant kill you'll need to max out strength a tad.
