    Raves to the Memorial! It's gorgeous and very lovely. (also really nice touch with it all being separate rooms)

    @Tvistor yeah I did the healthscreen gauntlet and all that while I was renewing (not just getting, *renewing*. I was already in the country gdi) my student visa.

    Here's a story to make you feel better though. While I was in the process of waiting for the approval, my mum broke her foot and I had to come back. So I returned home to Singapore for about 3 weeks after which I came back to Aussie.

    Nobody said anything although the immigration officer gave me a funny look that I assumed was because all asians look the same and he couldn't decide if I was really my passport picture.

    Days ticked by, I kept an eye on my visa status (which still said pending/processing) because I needed to submit it to the uni before I could finish my term registration. And then like the sand through the hour glass, the expiration date came and went, and there I was, an illegal immigrant in Brisbane suburbia.

    After some frantic calls they said I had to come down and settle it personally at the counter. Then, and only then, after all that anxiety did someone finally explain to me 'your visa could not be processed because you left the country'. They didn't even have the decency to just update it in the website report like 'cancelled' or 'applicant left the country' or something that would have prompted me to call them earlier.
