That's traits. Gem of Transmutation (i think) is the reincarnate one.

Flying, leap, dashing, and celerity are all good options. An invincible mount is great for fighting certain classes (mainly monk), good for the added dodging as Knight since you can vault for free.

Can't Kai banish still send the mount away for a while?

Yes, but gaining enough kai to banish takes longer than comboing a mount to death, and you can use it again as soon as banish ends. You can't re-summon a dead mount.
