I guess I imagine most grooks as being typical froggish because nobody specifies, but there are so many species/colors/choices! They just discivered a frog that can become spiky and then flatten its spikes.
I'm glad to see this thread. Makes me VERY glad I made a decision recently, regarding something Siren-y. One that ultimately leads to Bo returning to glorious grookiness. Those who grok, grok. :P
I have to say, I've been very underwhelmed with the racial profile of the Grook so far. They looked like such an interesting race, but I've found almost literally nothing but some very fetching pictures.
Is there any actual culture or history for the Grook whatsoever?

The grook origins, unlike most of the other races, are steeped in mystery. It is literally part of the grook lore that they do not know where they come from (just like the Xorans once didnt either, until the Bal'met event).
You will find tidbits of Grook history here and there, I will give some spots with examples:
- The isle of Ulangi. You will find the village of Ogalla for the grooks. Their leader, Oorangu, can help enlighten you a bit about them. He will likely mention of the legendary Ofoorti, who was rumored to be the last grook to know the origins of the Grook race. Sadly, he took it with him to the grave.
- The ruins of Phereklos are a great example of Grook history and only further deepen the mystery about them. Phereklos was once a merfolk underwater city before it was besieged by Grooks and other 'mainlanders'. It is a prime example used by the Tritons of the sea as to why 'landwalkers' cannot be trusted. The ghost of the king of Phereklos can be summoned somehow and could enlighten you further on the grooks.
- The generally given 'rumor' that has circulated the grook race is that they were created via magical experimentation. It is rumored they were created as warriors that would be capable to fight underwater, which it is theorized was the case to target Triton city-states. It was rumored that this was an experiment of Seleucar back during its glory days. This is all, of course, simply rumor and cannot be taken as fact, however with the rediscovery of Meropis in the past, a strange malformed version of 'Froggy intelligence' was found in Grukai swamp: The Glubbers. They are much more frog-like than grooks, and seem much more simple-minded, but do seem to give even more weight to the Seleucar theory.
I can accept conspicuous absence as lore, as unsatisfying as that may be.
Do any of these sources express any elements of culture? Ulangi, I have found, does not.
Mmm grook culture is a tough one. We only know that they tend towards the scholary and magical pursuits in society. They seem to have a whole "sempai" concept of society, in which their wisest elder tends to govern the people. Quite similar to a school concept with a grandmaster.
This is not to imply that they are not roughhousers too. Their history speaks of members being mercenary types and leading the attack into phereklos. The name of the leader was once said somewhere. I dont recall it. Very rogue-esque character
Grooks are cool even though people always forget that Sarflus is a Grook and offer him prickly pear when we go underwater even though i am able to breathe just fine so without it.
Actually, during the events of saving the denizens of Ulangi from the Kashar during the blademaster event, Oorangu went into some detail on at least /Ulangi/ culture, which may or may not be Grook culture as a whole. Basically, they build their homes in the swamps so that they will be reminded that trying to climb too high will bring everything crashing down around them. Balai is an example, as his ever-reaching ambition got him both shunned and hunted, and could potentially serve to drive a bigger wedge between the Grooks and Horkval of the island should adventurers go do his quest. So, they stay a small quiet community, studying, hunting, and croaking while trying really hard not to stir the pot.
Whether or not that is still accurate is irrelevent. I LOVE this thread so much.

@Yenali I'm glad you asked!
