It's great to see this piece released. Playing the God of Art, I would be remiss to let the official painting pass by without commenting!
First, thank you all for your comments, and for taking the time to consider what you think about this piece. Successful art can provoke many different views or spark a debate. For example: is it a kilt, or is it a towel? Is it YOUR towel?? In this case, it's a kilt, and matches the garment's description well. To answer the questions in this thread: @Ruth The feather wristlet is one way the Order item can be worn. @Wysteria Yes, the palette is crystal.
A special thank you to @Sarapis who works with the artist to produce these Divine portraits and makes them happen, and I'm sure the artist (who I haven't had direct contact with) appreciates hearing the feedback on their work. Personally, I'm happy that so many people enjoyed this painting, since players will inevitably come up with different visualisations of a god in their head. A god can be many things to many mortals, but a player behind a god can't!
What I liked about this image of Scarlatti:
1. It shows how much of the game is player-created content. That crystal cavern in the background was designed by a player during Scarlatti's first incarnation (I believe it was Ale), and the crystal palette was designed and gifted to this incarnation of Scarlatti by the Order.
2. The setting of a waterfall brings sound into the image, and sound is a significant part of how this incarnation of Scarlatti manifests. Those that see the image and have visited the cavern in game might also imagine the musical notes made by the water dripping onto the crystals when they see this setting.
3. As @Melodie says, this incarnation is as the "perfect pretty boy". The face is inhumanly flawless, the chest unashamedly bared, the tufting feathers on his wings impractically romantic, and it's my wish that the image might tell the player something about how a god plays to (or sometimes ignores!) mortals' expectations. I see his "perfection" as one manifestation of his Realm, as he and his followers are in the business of imagining the most perfect vision of reality that their minds can conjure, and then trying to express it and turn it into reality through art.
(Now for someone to badly photoshop the Scarlatti and @Ourania pictures together with a pithy caption...not that I'm encouraging that sort of thing at all.)

Vastar. Scarlatti's the image of perfection and all, but Vastar is like that primal storm you know will rock your world.
Scarlatti does have nice abs though! :x
