Seems like the influx of supernoobs into Targ is a direct result of Hashan growing some balls and the wider populace wanting to spoil our fun.-sagenod-
@Aylek it wasn't a 'justification', it was a reaction to what you did. There has been many 'novices' lately who have been jumping in boots and all into raids, and enemies getting novices who aren't yet enemied to your city or known by your group to do things like nab corpses or infiltrate to be a portal target are definitely not unheard of tactics. Glad to hear you've fixed the script, it shouldn't happen again then.
What. He had to be braziered into the raid group before his pickup trigger fired. Not sure how that makes killing him a reaction to him picking up a corpse.
Aylek braziered into Hashani group. Aylek picks up corpse. HE GOT A CORPSE KILL HIM. Aylek dies.
Certainly seems like the plan was already to kill him.
This might be worth splitting off into another topic, but please don't lump all of us new characters together or consider us "super-newbs" who are out to troll or ruin things. For example, I've played other IRE games, but I only played Achaea briefly for like 6 months a decade ago, and I'm pretty clueless about a lot of stuff. I'm not one of the retired uber-newbs (yet, I'm debating retiring some old characters) - I spent some cash on credits because I'm a grownup and I'm happy to indulge in my pasttimes, and I've spent most of my lessons/credits on derpy tradeskills because that's fun for me. I don't have any artifacts, however, nor am I tri-trans, and I'm pretty clueless about the current political climate and PK specifics of Achaea. I've gotten comments with a negative tinge to them because my might is highish (again, derpy tradeskills) and because I sold a few credits on market to get cash for basic supplies. I think it's a dangerous road to go down to make new players feel bad for purchasing credits - afterall, isn't that the entire goal of the game's admin?
I think people need to stop complaining about the obv retirees anyway.
A new player, is a new player. Just because they have a few arties already doesn't mean they know the world through and through. I would wager that a good portion of the "supernoobs" are actually from other games wanting to get away from that game to try Achaea.
It's not right to look at someone and make assumptions about their character/past/RP/thoughts just because they are level 18 and 50% your might. Who cares? Are they fun to interact with? Are they out actually RP'ing and not just screwing around? That's a person you want to have. Someone who is willing to spend time (can't be here without it), money (game can't survive without it), and actively participate to the world is a great thing.
Get off your high horse.

Also (or really just restating what was said), being one of those people who immediately buys lesson packs and learns up characters, might doesn't mean anything nowadays (if it ever did, I don't really think ever it did). Judging people based on their might or lack thereof is silly. I've seen some scrappy fighters with relatively low might who were scrambling to find gold and buy credits IC so they could learn more, and plenty of folks with high might who don't know anything about how to use their skills. (No judgment inherent in that either - people spending money on the game is A. Good. Thing.) And the presence of lesson packs and the bound credit pack (and iron elite) also changed things a lot for today's newbies, even aside from retirement. You can reasonably invest $105 or so and come up tri-trans with lessons left over given how many bound credits and lessons you get as you level.
Retirement was probably one of the better things to happen to the game. I've seen more change and activity in two weeks than nine or ten months of playing, it's awesome!
Is Targ the only city with that kind of influx of new players or are the other cities seeing similar growth?
It's been pretty constant in Cyrene, too. Overwhelming at times, but also exciting to see so many new and engaged people. Healthy mix of true noobs, refugees from other games, and returning players.

As much as I would like to agree that it was a reaction to my action, the fact is that I was only put into that situation by being Braziered.
Regardless, it is done. It happens. Every city has/will do it either deliberately or by accident. It's a part of the game!
I don't think anyone's complaining about the supernoobs! Not that I've seen. I think it's more tongue in the cheek ribbing about us getting such an influx of 300% might 18 year olds!
I love all the new faces, I don't care where you come from or how experienced or inexperienced you are. It's been great.
Definitely not complaining, Hashan has had a pile too, it's been great. Just saying it's harder to tell which ones are and aren't going to defend.
A week ago you could safely say 90% of 18 year olds you run into would be trying to stay out of a raid, today? Less. We've had 18 year olds willingly join in raids, defiles, both on our side and against. So if they make the first move, it's going to be assumed they're fighting.
I didn't see any braziers, I guess it was missed in the combat/group spam.

Agree, don't think anyone's really complaining about the rise of "supernewbs", but I will offer this advice to anyone thinking of retiring a tricked-out character and starting a new main:
Retirement's a great deal for both sides of the equation. Houses want invested players they can expect to stick around for a while, you want a fresh lease on life; so that tri-trans, artied-up newbie is like match made in heaven for both of us. Don't ruin the deal by waltzing in and acting like you're doing us a favor by being here, expecting preferential treatment or immediate service. Doesn't matter what guild you founded or what city you lead in whatever game you came from, this is a new character now, and our lives don't revolve around it.
-- Grounded in but one perspective, what we perceive is an exaggeration of the truth.

That being said, houses/cities could stand to be flexible with requirements - for example, if you have a requirement to figure out a quest in x bashing area, a newb who's shot up to level 50 likely won't have spent time learning that. It's important to recognize the REASON for the requirement (eg learning an area, vs learning how quests work), versus demanding specific things. This has always been my frustration with playing newbies - newbie reqs should not be about the specific things you want me to do, but rather the process of learning. Why can't more novice aides recognize this and exercise leeway - if someone is showing that they know how the mapper works, why does it matter where they are walking to? The skill we want them to learn is the mapper.
I would argue that's an outdated desire. New players should learn how to find stuff, but I think very few people find it enjoyable to learn how to establish a mental map without any visual reference.
Mappers are very useful, but it's good to have a rudimentary knowledge of how to navigate without them (which for me just means, have a very general knowledge of the layout of geography and being able to get to major places without using goto or walk to). Moreover, it teaches you to look at the rooms and actually get an idea of the area, rather than just glazing over things without learning anything about it.
And I love too Be still, my indelible friend That love soon might end You are unbreaking And be known in its aching Though quaking Shown in this shaking Though crazy Lately of my wasteland, baby That's just wasteland, baby
If you don't like a requirement, talk to the head of novices. If you don't like his/her decision, talk to the boss. I know that I'm willing to listen to proposed alternatives.
I am retired and log into the forums maybe once every 2 months. It was a good 20 years, live your best lives, friends.

Not really, my knowledge of geography over people who only rely on mappers has benefited me greatly over the years!
Also don't complain seriously. I had to do a thing where I went to every forest in the mainland and had to look at the long descs to figure out the kind of flora and fauna in every single forest along with their history. Having to learn how to get to thera isn't exactly a hard requirement.

Bump.

Ashtan has had quite a few too, lots of new peeps in the Houses and stuff, all who seem to be quite nice people thus far, talkative and interested and taking part in things.
