They don't look bigger than his head to me. I mean, he's humanoid, so the hands aren't expected to be petite. Tiger paws are pretty close to the size of their head as well.

Acctually.. 12 strength + runes = 13 strength + level 3 gauntlets = 16 strength + fury = 18 strength so this could acctually be okay.

@Tvistor That really shows the subjectivity of it all I guess. This one is in the middle of the pack to me. I went through many revisions with the artist, and had him basically start over at one point as I wasn't happy. I'm still not thrilled with it, though I like it. I can't put my finger on what it is I don't love about it. The stance maybe? I don't know. There are others I like a lot better, personally, at least (the human and the grook, for instance).

I'm not too keen on the background and some stuff (it seems a little blurry to me? It works, but maybe something else would have worked better), but I definitely dig the ferocity and lightning-swords.

Yeah, hard to argue with a good pair of lightning swords. I never leave home without.

If I remember right, it's an artistic trick meant to convey the illusion of large bodies, due to the way our body proportions change as we grow. As babies, our head is relatively large in proportion to our body, but when we grow towards adulthood, our body grows larger in comparison to our head.

Let's take...say, a Gundam. Here's one with a smaller head:

And here's one with a big head:

See how the larger-headed Gundam looks much more baby-like?
