I recently decided to retire a character on another IRE game and was looking into joining here. I wanted to ask a few questions before jumping into uninformed decisions.
1)I don't have a lot of retirement credits... I barely hit the mark in the other game. What would be the best investment for my credits as far as PvP/combat goes? If it helps any, I am leaning towards depths walker as my profession(who doesn't like stabbing with a scythe am I right?), but I would also like to know which professions/classes are easiest and require the least amount of arties to be decent.
2)Which city would I see the most action in? I don't necessarily want to join the city that is top in PvP, as that's no fun if you just add on to the already overpowered.
3)Is there anything major system wise I should start looking into building to be decent at combat? it seems like I might need to set up prio switching depending on what I fight/how the fights going, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer on how indepth this should be.
any information would be greatly appreciated!

2) Ashtan, I think, is still top dog when it comes to PvP. Following them are Mhaldor and Eleusis, and then Targossas and Hashan. Of course, almost all cities lean heavily around a couple of combat leaders. Ily @Karren
3) Achaea has serverside curing, which is arguably really customisable. SVO-f exists, too, which is the free form of the Vadi curing system. It's regularly updated by players such as @Keneanung.
I haven't seen Eleusis or Mhaldor raid or get raided in forever and Ashtan's number 1 already and don't need more people. Hashan gets raided by Targ mostly, but hasn't raided itself in a while.
as for knights... I may end up doing that. I played a deathknight mostly for combat in imperian. I loved its bleed based offense. but it just... fell short in the 1 vs 1 department(which may be different now with some knight changes that I have yet to test) So my followup question is this: for combat, is there a profession that does good in both the dueling department and the group fighting department? Do Knights fall in this category of of being good at both?
Honestly, you can get by with well formed static prios and just use triggers/aliases in the rare cases where you do need a priority swap. The only real organic prio swaps I've built in are -> darkshade late progression ginseng, ginseng prio on bloodlet with high bleed, and arm/leg mending order swaps against magi when prone. Everything else is just being setting up a smart static prio list for the class/situation you're in and liberally abusing running away as necessary.
Ashtan raids a lot, and we get hated on a lot. I can generally go find PK any time I want to engage in it as an Ashtani. Frankly you should pick the city that most appeals to you. There are things like Dauntless and Mark/Champion factions that can feed you PK as well.
For the most action, though, probably Targossas at the moment, maybe, but that really can shift and change from month to month, except for Ashtan when Jhui is around.
- With sharp, crackling tones, Kyrra tells you, "The ladies must love you immensely."
- (Eleusian Ranger Techs): Savira says, "Most of the hard stuff seem to have this built in code like: If adventurer_hitting_me = "Sarathai" then send("terminate and selfdestruct")."
- Makarios says, "Serve well and perish."
- Xaden says, "Xaden confirmed scrub 2017."
That said, I humbly suggest spending a little time talking to people who lead group fights in different places, whether IC or OOC, get a feel for 'em, and go with the persons you get along with best! A fun team's way, way, way more important than your class or faction, imo (Ashtan, tbf, has a very fun crowd, by all accounts, for the record!).
