Alchemical Metals: Lead, Iron, Tin, Copper, Silver and Gold Commodity Metals: Iron, Silver, Gold, and Platinum
You see, alchemical metals have different uses than commodity metals. Alchemical metals are usually used to do some skills, if you are an alchemist, or to make alchemical cures which synthesis does. Commodity metals are used to make other things, normally forging stuff and building things like mines.
The problem is that both have iron, silver and gold which is going to be a pain when trying to OUTRIFT 50 IRON or DROP 20 SILVER, if they were both referred by the same name. So they made it so that you can interact with the Alchemical metals as airon, alead, atin, agold, etc. while the commodity metals are pretty much still referred as Iron, silver, gold. This way, you can DROP 20 ASILVER so you can drop the alchemical silver instead of the silver commodity.
I don't exactly know much about both metals in depth but I hope this clarifies your question.
will differentiate between the two, or should if I am remembering correctly from when I had synthesis. All the alchemical ones are labled with an "a"<ITEM> so they can't be used to forge, build mines, etc. You can interact with the objects the same way, so touch airon/poke airon/wield airon
