How does a new character get involved in a family?

I had a history for my character but I actually would really like to have my parents actually in game, I have reworked a couple points on my backstory for this to work but I really have no idea where to begin. Do I just go up to somebody a regularly interact with and ask to be their son?

I mean that could work but it's really frowned upon by some folks. The best thing you, as a new player can do is interact with as much people as you can. Be respectful, courteous, and an all around nice person. When you find a couple you feel synergy with try to spend time with them or continue RPing with them. Eventually someone may approach you and ask! But never rush your decision, there's honestly no big rush or huge advantage, and when you find the right family your experience in the game overall will only heighten.

My suggestion is to take the discussion to some OOC level, probably in tells/messages, with that person. Also take your time with it. There might be some part of you that thinks it's weird for your character to go around a few years not knowing who their parents are, and then suddenly that guy they acted like they just met turns out to be their dad, but that's kind of an unavoidable thing and probably not too uncommon either, so don't sweat it if that's what happens.

Yeah, don't be afraid of retconning. Tecton pretty much got retconned out of IC Achaea, even though he still has an emote (should probably remove that?)

Can always explain it away with hallucinations, false memories, you just made it up to feel better about yourself, anything like that.

There's nothing wrong with asking someone you have interacted with previously in a clearly designated OOC tell. What I'd avoid is asking people you haven't ever interacted with out of the blue, as well as asking IC rather than OOC.

I'd avoid trying to explain it away with stuff like that. It's generally best just to pretend it didn't happen. Most people will go along with it and not point out the inconsistency. The more you try to explain things IC, the more emphasis you place on it.
