what defenses should you have against other classes as a monk.

I want to make a profile for every class with spefic defenses. i use svo. so what i mean is a profile like VDEFS SERP if fighting a snake and VDEFS MONK. if fighting a monk. that way i minimize mana waste and maximize survival as best i can. please and thank you!

I mean, very few monk defenses should just "always" be on, or off, depending on class. Most of monks class defs are balanceless, but even for the ones that aren't, you should be turning them on and off during a fight depending on the situation.

Personally, the mana drain isn't nearly as taxing as the willpower drain. With all of your defenses up (which is literally never a good idea) you'd run out of willpower in about 3-5 minutes, and that's before counting any attacks, which also use a ton of WP.

So, my recommendation is to learn your defenses well, learn the associated costs to them, and set up some good aliases to turn them on and off. I have a simple on/off/toggle alias for every defense, and I use them very frequently.

If you plan on using things like mindnet, metawake, pinchblock, telesense, trance, and so on, you might want to consider a willpower circlet. As lame as this sounds, it's essentially required to play monk, unless you want to spend 30% of your Achaea experience in meditation.

edit: Getting a megalith and ox tattoo is a very affordable, effective way to help, as well.

I agree with almost all of this except for the part about a willpower artefact being essentially required to play a monk.

That's only if you plan on using a lot of telepathy, or plan on leaning transmute for supplemental curing. You can just as easily roll through as a Tekura monk, breaking everything you can get your hands on.

That's not to say that a willpower or endurance regeneration artefact wouldn't help immensely, but just saying that it's not overly needed or required. As far as the ox tattoo goes, it's a great idea if you plan on making it permanent. In my experience with the tattoo, it fades in all the crappiest times and provides very little regeneration.

All in all, it just depends on what you want to do.

It's honestly easier to figure out what defs you don't need to have up all the time, projectiles, dodging, any of the blocks (pinch/evade etc), mind cloak etc. Just figure out when you'd need to put them up and you'll be fine.
