Because that's when my train will be arriving roughly. We are spending the day walking around, food , drinking, kareoke somewhere. Winging it. Whatever people are up to.

No one come on my account. I live in NYC, but have tentative travel plans as well. If I can make an appearance, I will let you know. If not, you can always go to the Cloisters, it's mini Mhaldor. The gates need defending.
NYC is cool but the problem is that there is literally like nothing to do there.
Really depends on which part you go to, and who you're with. Well, that could be said for any place, really, but imho NYC has something for everyone.
I hoped it was obvious I was joking!
NYC is one of the world's greatest cities. When I was starting Achaea, there were only three cities I considered moving to: San Francisco, NYC, and London. I chose SF but could have as easily chose NYC, and I have a good time there every time I visit for either business or pleasure.
@Herenicus: How long are you going to be staying for? What's your budget like? Looking at a couple of the hotels Kitiara suggested, you're probably going to be spending ~300USD/night for their cheaper rooms.
If you're willing to do a little bit of travelling on public transport (which I think just adds to the experience) you could stay further out from places like Times Square and pay a lot less for your hotel room. I don't have any specific recommendations, though; my hotel last time I was in NYC wasn't great and I wouldn't recommend it unless you just need somewhere cheap(ish) to crash at night.
