I dunno why several people are hating on Cyrene so bad. I suppose it's the popular thing to do, and only a very couple of Cyrenians post on the forums.

Unbiasedly, all cities have their pros, cons, quirks, miracles, bad apples, and amazing people. All just have a different playstyle to them. No one playstyle is wrong, or bad. Not everyone likes every playstyle. Best to get some basic FACTS* about each, and then try them and see where you feel yourself shine and have the most fun.

I cannot count the amount of people who have tried to get me to leave Cyrene, change class, change Order, do/don't have this or that friend. Do what YOU find interesting, and humbug to whoever else thinks you shouldn't play that way!

ETA: Melodie basically has the right of it. Different cities and different ideals cater to different playstyles. Explore those a bit while you're a newbie until you find a place where you enjoy.

That, or spend about 7-8 rl years frustrated by how terrible everything is and eventually have Santa leave you a brand new city under the tree one Christmas.
