I have tried to find some information on these and can't find it anywhere. I'd just like to see what badges I can earn and what the points do, if anything.  Does it affect my poster ranking?

    It's the number of likes, agrees, or lols you get on your posts.
    I am retired and log into the forums maybe once every 2 months. It was a good 20 years, live your best lives, friends.

    Eld, in this post, gave an excellent summary of the points system.

    To summarize the summary, there are three kinds of reactions: positive ("like," "LOL," and I believe "agree"), negative ("WTF" and, of course, "abuse"), and neutral ("disagree"). Posts and users each have their own points count. Positive reactions give both the post and the user 1 point. Negative reactions subtract one point from both post and user, and the flag reaction additionally brings the post to the attention of the moderators (so use it wisely). Neutral reactions don't add or subtract any points. Additionally, we all-powerful moderators have a sixth type of reaction, called "promote," which we use on posts that are shining examples of informative and constructive contributions (or just whenever we really like a post, either way). These add five points to the post and three to the user. Some badges additionally give points, I believe.

    These point totals are important, because when a post reaches -5 points, it is automatically hidden, because presumably a bunch of people found it really shocking, non-constructive, or just plain abusive. When a post reaches 5 points, it is highlighted in a lovely shade of gold because it's such an excellent post. It's subtle, but noticeable. As for users, when they gain points, they gain * symbols, up until 5, at which point they begin gaining @ symbols. These are purely cosmetic... or are they?

    They can be ugly red badges of shame, but I've earned those pieces of flair.

    One badge at least already exists existed for WTFs.

    ETA: On checking the dates, it may have been discontinued. Salik earned the 25 WTFs badge too, and nobody else has that.

    Oh well, suck it losers.

    Someone made a post asking that the WTF badges be discontinued. Sadly, he got 5 Likes :'(

    The perverse part of that being that the X WTFs badges were worth positive points.
