Help me choose a Class, House and City

Hello, I am Ranagaen, a young Grook.

I have some experience in MUDs, I come from an other IRE game, but completely new to Achaea.

So eventhough I know most of the common commands, how things generally work, and such. I'm completely clueless about Achaea's classes, houses, map and world.

I enjoy a well populated house/guild, with good RP, engaging, a community. I would be very grateful for some mentorship about the game, but mostly in regards about game knowledge. How to better use the class skills, good hunting areas, how to do the House duties, etc...

Which Class, House and City do you recommend?

Also, since you guys know the world and its history better. What would be a good RP idea to follow the class/house/city selection?

If you want to focus on combat, the Ashura in Ashtan.

If you want to bash and relax then the Mojushai in Cyrene.

If you want a great RP environment and a sense of purpose, Ebon Fist in Mhaldor.

If you want to join a house which seems to be doing rather well at the moment with a mix of RP, bashing and combat then the Black Lotus in Hashan.

If you want to go defend Nature and do some combat, Sentinels in Eleusis.

Currently there's good opportunities for war and conflict in Mhaldor and Hashan, so if you like to get the chance to PK a little then go to those houses.

I am a monk, Currently having quite a bit of fun in Targossas. It is the newest city, so creates a great opportunity to mold the future for your character and the citizens to come. Not the best place for a newcomer though, we are without Houses for just a bit longer.

For combat, most can agree the Ashura is for that. But you stated your interest is not there, so I would start with the Mojushai.

The Mojushai can teach you everything, and help you an understanding and good feel for the realm. From there, you can decide your path as you grow and get stronger in the realm.

Just my thoughts anyway

Bash and Relax means you go out you kill an animal or just something that gives you experience and then go back to your city and chat RP. If you want to learn PvP almost all of the monk houses do it except Cyrene. For more context on the city environment.
Ashtan is all about power, gaining it using it being better then everyone else.
Mhaldor is evil.
Targossas is good.
Eleusis are tree huggers and protectors of the forest (You know I love you Eleusis)
Cyrene is all about the arts and does some interesting RP things.
Hashan is....Hashan they are dedicated to the night
Wherever you go though you will find a small group or a large group for PvP, and of course these are just personal interpretations so if someone is going to go all crazy about my descriptions.

Cyrene is relaxing because they're the Switzerland of Achaea just without the banking, but still has all that paperwork. They try their best to stay neutral and never declare war or go on the offensive, which means they are rarely attacked unless Ashtan or Mhaldor get bored.

If you plan on ending up in Mhaldor I'd start out in Mhaldor. They treat converts a little harsher than they would normal slaves.

If it's another more combat oriented house you wish to join, shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Don't bother with any of this.

Just go to Cyrene, join the Mojushai. You'll love it and no one will hear of you again.

Now that I think of it, that is something big that was missing so far in my IRE experience. A sense of purpose.

A purpose that goes beyond raising in the ranks of the House/Guild and helping people inside the House/Guild.

This is very interesting.

Basically it boils down to them serving their Master, Lord Sartan, with utter devotion and living by the Seven Truths of Evil which boil down to Strength > Weakness and survival of the fittest (well strongest in this case)

The Ebon Fist's purpose revolves very much around the central monk theme of working towards three aspects of excellence (we name it the 'Triad', Mind, Body and Soul) under the Seven Truths of Evil. We believe that by reaching transcendence in each of them, we would be one step closer to serving Sartan better. We also believe that we would do it effectively as a group of monastic/community-like zealots, and not alone.

The best way we are seen to serve would be utilizing our mind to the task of 1) advocating Sartan's ideals, internally (we even have our own set of mantras we use, we also make sure our citizens have the right concept of the truths, being scholastic) or externally demonstrated (being warriors, tacticians, or pilgrims).

The only way you'll fully know what the atmosphere/our purpose is would require you to experience it for yourself, though. I can only say so much.

If you're looking for education on tropes, you can talk to me about it.

As you know, tropes are storytelling concepts that storytellers are confident as being recognizable by the audience.

I am currently a Monk. Having more fun than when I tried a Jester.

The problem of exploring the world without a House is that you miss all the help, community, tasks, and goals a House provides.

I understand your answer, it is hard to recommend something so personal to somebody else. Feel free to ask me anything to get a feel for what I might like.

Being Houseless feels solitary, but I don't want to jump into the first house that sounds fun, it feels like a decision made without proper information.

I could be joining a House that is inactive, low populated, doesn't have common goals or RP. And then I wouldn't be enjoying Achaea as much as I could.

So if I understand correctly, my two options are Mojushai and Mhaldor.

Mojushai is pacific, relaxing and a calm way to learn by mostly interacting with the House and the environment.

Mhaldor is brutal, exciting and a harder way of learning by having to prove yourself against other players.

One being an easy-going fun time. The other being potentially frustrating but also rewarding.

Or in other words. Mhaldor are attackers; Mojushai are defenders.

If anybody is interested I joined Targossas. I was recommended to start fresh, instead of with a 25 year old character. Simpler history and the advantages of a new character.

So I joined as Kron, a Human Monk in Targossas.

@Synbios: Targossas being a new city, isn't as established as the old ones. Which gives me the opportunity to be part of changes, interesting RP quickly, and grow with the city.

So far the aide has been fantastic. Twice I have been gathered with fellow younglings and they have explained us the world, how to do things, and the city. Multiple higher ranks have stopped me to give me vials, tattoos, advice, information or a quick party hunt. Without asking. Just as a form of Hello and comradery.

A few months back I tried a character in Cyrene, and eventhough I am fully aware each experience is very particular and depends on who you cross and when, plus I had more to learn back then. I have a bigger sense of purpose now, and have met a lot more fellow citizens and even higher ranks very quickly.

I feel part of the city, valuable and with a common goal. Instead of bashing to get strong enough to start to be noticed. On the contrary, city RP is getting on the way of bashing hahahaa
