Because I haven't thought this out enough to type it out completely, the idea here is that ingredients would include basic variations of alcohol brandy / vodka / rum / tequila / wine / etc. each one requiring 2 water and accumulating amounts of grain, based on the strength of the drink. For example wine may take 1 grain, while tequila might take 4 and absinthe 8.
AB MIXOLOGY ALTERATION
(would work similar to cooking miniskill ability)
AB MIXOLOGY PORTIONS
(would work similar to cooking miniskill ability)
Comments
There's so much appeal in being able to invent a cocktail, pick out all the ingredients, and stamp a name on it - the Muddy Shoe, the Black Rabbit - or even name it after yourself, so I hope a naming system like that would be accomodated by a Mixology recipe system.
The ability for wines etc to age, accumulate value, and become sought-after would be really cool if that could somehow be executed. Imagine each city having their own winery/distillery and city cellars, with bottled wine not lasting long when removed from those cellars - unless it's stored in a wine cellar upgrade which you can add to your house, or something. 80 years later your half-dozen bottles of well-aged Adikoi claret are rare and sought-after. I don't know how you could mechanically designate value, or simulate the development of flavours or whatever it is that happens to wine when you leave it in a hole for a few decades (since you can't taste text), but it could become its own economy and that would be amazing.
Rare ingredients make so much sense in cocktails and drinks. I think it's a concept that integrates very well into a fantasy RPG like Achaea, where rare ingredients can be designated as items that people can adventure for, and it disappointed me a little when this was overlooked in the creation of Cooking. Imagine having a drink recipe that could only be created if you had a certain fresh fruit from Zanzibaar or Meropis, or a particular rare herb, or a quantity of fresh basilisk blood, or a type of foreign rum that had to be traded for. That would really elevate those drinks to something special, something with a value and significance beyond their description alone.
I don't really want to see cocoa or milkshake designs because I just know shops will be flooded with "a mug of sweet cocoa overflowing with cute bunny marshmallows" and "a cute cream-topped banana milkshake drizzled with sweet caramel". Stuff like that - and you absolutely see it with Tailoring (sexy panties), Jewellery (sexy toe rings), and Baking Cooking (sexy cupcakes) - makes me imagine Achaea as a version of Lothlorien where all the elves sit around eating ice cream and texting each other. I guess some people like that though...
Unfortunately all of this is moot because we can't have distilling, or anything associated, until we get a pirate class to bootleg and smuggle the stuff.
:ar!
ETA: anyone can gather water. Purifying it as a skill is ok?
And the old is new again.
Sarapis may still have the design sitting around; he once put together a very detailed design for growing grapes, making wine, and aging it.
Something like that could even make the wildnerness useful (vineyards, farms, etc.)

Seriously? Bring out the banhammer. Or turn offenders all green and leafy. Or just revoke crafting privileges for a few weeks. Why should the many have to suffer because of the indiscretions of the few? It makes me sad.
Also.
The cake is a lie.
