Two noobs.

Hello everyone! I hope I'm posting in the right subforum. Me and my friend recently started exploring MUDs and we stumbled upon Achaea and we both really like it. We have close to none experience with these kind of games and roleplaying but we are very eager to learn.

I wanted to make a thread where I can write about our progress and our views on Achaea. We started yesterday with the birth of a jester and a bard and have just started reading all the required scrolls provided by our house.

Is there anything the community think we should be aware of? Do you have any questions? I'll be watching this thread as much as I can and try to update it frequently.

Well first welcome to achaea! Great to hear.new.people are joining up as well as some oldies returning.
I would say just enjoy yourself. Immerse yourself in the lore and roleplay of your houses and cities. Being truly new is one of the greatest feelings of achaea I remember. Have as much fun as you can. Don't worry if you die. Or lose XP or even items because you will earn then back and try not to set yourself a mindless goal to start with, just focus on growing and enjoying yourself. Combat is amazingly fun and complex but don't get frustrated if you don't get it to begin with. Find bits you enjoy and focus on them.

Don't get frustrated by any setbacks you first encounter, also. Don't burnout doing all your requirements. If you're in the CIJ or the Ty'beirdds, their requirements are actually pretty fun, so enjoy yourself while you're doing it.

As a suggestion to a true new player, don't rush through your Novicehood. Take time to pay attention to the introduction, pay attention to the instruction your city and house mates give you, take advantage of the Novicehood while it's available to learn as much as you can.

Another suggestion is just to mention that for every question you generally have, lots of other people have had and asked as well, for which there are now plenty of HELP scrolls. When in doubt, HELP (topic). If there's not a specific scroll with the topic keyword you used, it displays a list of help scrolls which match that word.

Don't hesitate to ask questions.

Thanks for all the welcomes an tips! Yesterday only I played, my friend had lots of real stuff to do(what's that anyway?).

So far I've met with one of the house officials and answered questions regarding my knowledge about the rules and all that, that went smooth! He also helped me with tuning my rapier, that was really cool. I've catched A LOT of butterflies and slaughtered an imp society which earned me the prestigious level of 10!

  Good to have you and what a great thing you are doing by describing your reaction to Achaea.  Well done indeed. People like you and your friend are exactly what Achaea needs to exist. 

  Patience.  You know...Had "they" told me that 18 years later...at the age of 467 I would be able to be Cobra STILL.  Wow.  Think of this. Twenty years from now...you will be able to log into your character (KEEP THOSE PASSWORDS).  And if you played correctly, everyone should welcome you with open arms, even if they hate you.  Why?  Because great people are hard to find.

P.S. @Santar, New players are always the cutest.  It's when they age 300-400 years...that's when things get ugly.

I'm going to echo the notion of patience.  This game is huge.  HUGE.  There is so much to do and so much to be, that rushing it is just a waste.  Pick some goals and work toward them, and if they stop being interesting find new goals.  Don't just try to rush to "endgame" like in other games, I'm not even sure there is an endgame (at least I still haven't found one, and I'm all the way up to level 131.)  Take your time to find the things you like with the people you like.  That said, don't take all these suggestions of patience to mean that it's a slow game, it's not by any means.  There's just so much to it that rushing through things won't get you anywhere.

It's at level (Penwize_level + 1). Every time you level up you're ruining the game a little more for the rest of us.

Don't worry, I'm not in a hurry to get anywhere!

Since the last update I've got clothed with help from one of my fellow awesome house members, gotten to level 15, acquired a shield and some vials. Slowly getting used to all the commands and functions.

It's pretty much only me now so I guess the thread could be named "The noob" instead!

I didn't even read "two noobs" when I first found the thread. I think that leaving it named how it is will give you more traffic.

Keep your character in mind, and don't slip out of it (really)!

Be open to new ideas and options. And take everything with a dose of salt. What is in game, stays in game. It's a game, after all.
