[Nexus] Buttons and Queuing for the Complete Newb, by a newb.

Hello everyone, and if you're as new as I am- welcome to Achaea. If you're not- please help welcome us here!

I am a complete newb to this system, the Nexus Browser-based Client, and MUDs in general, but I have a lot of MMORPG experience- and if you're like me and went 'oh, no, I won't use buttons and triggers and scripting' well, we were and are both wrong. Achaea, and MUDs in general have hundreds of commands, and many of them chain together or are required for your day-to-day.

So, I'm going to give you guys a bit of a beginner lesson, like I wanted and needed, when I first, first started fresh.

Login to your client, your character, on a normal web-browser. Once you're there you're going to want to click this button here: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/589230457292587018/605288911450800128/unknown.png

That button is going to bring you to a fancy config page, like so: https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/589230457292587018/605289036671614986/unknown.png?width=706&height=337

So many options! All of which are easy to parse and described there (that's not what this is about, afterall) but I'd like to draw your attention to the 'tabs' at the top of the page: Display Options, Colors, Buttons.

Today, we're gonna learn about buttons. You head to the buttons page and it looks a little like this: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/589230457292587018/605289324912574465/unknown.png

Yours might have different names than mine, but those are your 'f-keys' or your buttons! You can put some of your many, many abilities up there. Stuff you need to use or remember. The F1 button that I have displayed in that screenshot shows by basic attack ability that I spam, doublewhirl @tar. (@tar of course means, at target.)

That button is called bashing because.. attacking enemies in this game to farm them is called 'bashing' and farming enemies is called 'hunting'. Finding enemies to hunt in specific places is done with the AREAS command. Lots of people on here ask about bashing in scripts and triggers and more, so today we're going to go over basic preparation. That means, queuing and buttons!

Queuing is important, it means you can perform more than one action at a time, and the server will queue it up for you, server-side! So, here we are: serverside Queuing. That's done by typing in 'config'. It'll show you this screen: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/589230457292587018/605297001093136404/unknown.png

Down at the bottom left corner you see: UseQueueing. You need to make sure that value is YES, and to do that, you simply type: CONFIG USEQUEUEING ON

That will enable serverside queuing! That means you can do stuff like.. put multiple attacks at once in the line, or whatever you want! 'Great!' you think, 'So I'll just queue up a dozen attacks and then voila, I'm done!' ...Sadly it doesn't work like that. You can only queue up five actions at a time that utilize your equilibrium queue. Some actions don't and can be done at the same time!

A basic example of that is next: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/589230457292587018/605289571403694095/unknown.png

Look at that! In my daily preparations, I make sure that I touch my moss and boar tattoos! 'What is that | line in the middle?' Why, that's my command stack delimiter!

That's in our settings, too: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/589230457292587018/605289430571417601/unknown.png

Down there on the 'advanced' page, at the bottom. It even says what it does "Used to separate multiple commands sent at one time". That means we can send more than one command in one button press! So when I touch my 'prep button', I touch both my tattoos at once, with one button press!

That means we can do all of that prep we need to do before adventures, every day when we login.. with ONE button press. As many commands as you want, as long as it doesn't queue up more than FIVE equilibrium commands. That means you can do a TON of stuff at once, in one button press, with the magic of queuing and adding more commands! Like my primary prep: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/589230457292587018/605289666207285258/unknown.png

And all of this is for me, who is still a baby. I'm only level 25 so far!

I hope this helps.

  • You have no idea (how much this helps)!  I've been looking for something that explains all the little details that everyone else takes for granted.  Thanks for making it simple for an idiot newb like me.
