It's probably going to be something either way unique or we're over thinking it. Possibly both. Think it's too early to tell at the moment anyways.
Personally, I'd love to see a class that would be really be kind of like a wizard that uses magical and potions properties to meet the ends met in regards to their skills.
The new class will obviously be a Merchant class, inspired by the return of Prospero to the realm. Their skill will incorporate the hiring of mercenaries and troops of different varieties for unique tactical effects. Their unique kill shall be Hand_of_Midas which shall transform a victim into a pile of gold.

Alchemists would riot if that was their instakill.
Would be cool to see a merchant class though. Or a more traditional rogue stealth class (hide in shadows, hold people hostage, thieves in MkO, etc.)

Not really, they use their blade for the vast majority of things, elemental use is just channeled through the blade. That's more sort of mystic samurai, which is very thematically different from elemental monk I'd think.
I'd loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove a Musket or any form of gun-based glass. I adore long-ranged class/hero concepts that require a certain skill and finesse to them. Snipers are my favorite spec for any gun-combat based game.

And you won't understand the cause of your grief...
...But you'll always follow the voices beneath.
Gnoll lashers: Bleeding and Hamstring
Ophidian crossbowmen: Loki poisoned bolts
Vertani brutes: Limb breaks
Doxy Sirens: Lovers effect
Goblin sappers: Room explosions
Pre-tekura monks with weapons
Beast-tamers of some sort, either from kashar or ala the spider-riding Tsol
"Neutral" priest-equivalents with a pantheonic form of devotion
