  • Found the most flattering pictures of grooks that will ever be seen by mankind.

All hail the new era of muscular grooks... The new sirens of sapience.

    Ashtani and Apostate..?
Used to be a very common thing, when Necromancy was acceptable in Ashtan. It was restricted, largely by the fact you were anathema'd if you raided/defended vs Mhaldor while using the abilities, or if you were assisting Occultists with the ability (very heavy restrictions, if you're not dragon!) - or if the Dread Ecclesiarch decided to be a dick.

Ashtani Apostates were recalled a while back, but it's still mechanically possible to select the class, which I did with a Lucrescent Nut (so being anathema'd wouldn't be such a big deal, if it DID happen). I messaged Harmonia about it, no response back yet though. Biggest downside is that my own gravehands hits me, cause I'm not Mhaldorian. But aside from that, is fun!

    You goan get excommunicated anathema'd.
And I love too                                                                          Be still, my indelible friend
That love soon might end                                                         You are unbreaking
And be known in its aching                                                      Though quaking
Shown in this shaking                                                             Though crazy
Lately of my wasteland, baby                                                 That's just wasteland, baby

As I said to @Kiet when he brought it up:
"Oh no, please don't take away skills I don't -actually- have anyway!" :p

Unrelated, but to prevent having to make more posts... (and since it's on topic!)
Keep having to point out ANNOUNCE 3122 to people... Getting to be kind of irritating, let me AFK in peace ffs.

Is this still the case since city destruction came in?
  • edited January 2016
It is, considering issues cropped up around the time sanctioning became a thing as well.
You're still not allowed to openly attack people just for being in the city/army, unless they attack you first, for the purposes of trying to start a raid. The exception to that, is if the two cities are openly at war with one another, then it's fair game (if they're in the army).

Why do you think most raiders tend to go kill denizens, to get the other city's attention, and try get those people to come remove the 'raiders' :p

I just want to afk in peace :( - although this time I wasn't, was helping @Elly with her combat, then radiance popped up out of the blue. Past times hasn't been the case though, fortunately I got triggers that scream at me when I'm alt-tabbed and offensive action is done against me.
  • There's been a lot of that lately with killing before a raid is even known about.

Pretty sure thats one of those rules everyone sort of ignores.

And you won't understand the cause of your grief...

I am not sure if I have ever seen a raid go down like mentioned in that announcement.

    No one is innocent here!
  • Just to be clear, you're really saying you can't kill anyone to get a sanction? Unless... what, the defenders each individually hit first?
  • Thought antheama worked like devotion. You still can use all the skills but your necromancy power pool doesn't regen. Giving you limited times you can use your skills like a un rechargeable battery.
  • It might be important to note that post is from 2010.

  • For the record, City Destruction (Announce 3457) was put forth in mid-2011, sooo.
  • Was the case last time I issued it to check :)

Unless defenders come to remove you, you're not allowed to kill people (marks/infamous being the exception, obviously) for the purposes of starting a sanction. Someone just being there, does not fly as a reason to kill them. Seems pretty straightforward to me, if the defending city wants to bother with you, then they'll come and try to remove you.. If they don't, then take the hint, rather than provoke them further by attacking them?

I suppose it works if you want to issue every time. Most people just accept dying as part of a raid.

And you won't understand the cause of your grief...

Issued myself, for clarity. Not issued someone else >.>
Think the only one I've issued someone else in the past ~6-7 years, is the same one who was frivolously doing it to me, that I already posted about.
  • Ryzeth isn't a regular fighter/defender, so he probably shouldn't be a target. Unless he was with the defender's group, in my opinion. People who like combat generally don't mind, though. Sometimes mistakes happen but I don't think it's too devastating except when a pattern develops, I'm not sure a one time thing is really enough to start reminding people about it. I never had success with that and it just brought more arguments and negative feelings than any kind of favorable resolution. For me, letting the small things slide and only really discussing the bigger problems helped a lot.

  • Yeah it's really hard to tell people to not attack in a raid situation, and half the game (from every faction) seems to think raids = enemy city becomes free pk.
  • I was having a really terrible day mentally yesterday, really depressed, but @Siduri helped me begin my combat stuff, @Tesha answered some annoying questions and gave me a nickname (so silly but I cheered up a bit from both) and hunting with @Edena before bed made me feel a lot better when I went to bed. Still feeling a bit miserable but it's nice to know you can pop on sometimes and people can be very happy to just have you around, even if you aren't responsive or just plain annoying

Not even enemied anywhere! Not even Mhaldor, despite my constant walking through there, after being told a number of times that I shouldn't. (by the same person/people, many times!)
@Tesha, I don't really mind it much. Earlier was with Will, I told him he probably shouldn't. He asked why, and I told him, that was that!  Personally, my 'gripe' stems from that I always seem to be the first one when enemies enter, despite many Ashtani being around :(
     Targ tries brazier / radiancing,
Eleusis tries radiancing / brazier / axing me,
Mhaldor tries displacing / boomeranging me.
Let me afk in peace damnit :(:(

Also yes, @Tahquil... At least I think that's how it works. Lots of good, essence-using abilities in necromancy though :p

We don't even have an alchemist, liar! (I mean we have prof but he's been monk for a wh ile)

I've always been careful about it when raiding. Stepping into an enemy city doesn't make its citizens open pk unless they do something to provoke you. Why would this be any different just because you brought a few friends and are looking for an easy sanction?

That said I'd say hiring over it makes more sense than issuing unless it keeps happening from the same people.

  • I never issued them, as I already said! I issued myself to find out if that post was still relevant to today's ruling. Which was confirmed that it still is. Wish I still had the message... I'm too lazy to hire most of the time, none of the attempts succeeded in pulling/killing me anyway, I just politely inform the people that they shouldn't, and they've all stopped.

@Kiet you guys had another Alchemist a few months back, I can't remember her name. But not important! Was just said for examples :p Proficy tends to do it when on his own, just to fuck with me. I'm cool with him (I think)

Didn't day you did issue, just commenting in general.

If they've stopped when asked that seems ideal.

  • Yeah, can't attack as a raider unless you already have an RP reason, or the defenders are clearly grouped and intending to engage.

I have seen this from her first hand.  I was actually confused at first.  I have only participated in possibly 6 raids total, but numerous defenses. The mentality has always seemed to be to kill whoever it took and however it needed to be done to get the sanction. (From every faction)

Then Valkyn comes along during the last raid and politely informs us just how wrong we are.

I haven't played Achaea that long and those announcements were from way before I started. I never read them. I only went by what I witnessed daily and my experience as a noob was getting constantly ganked by enemy factions the moment they entered the city with radiances and all those other various and wonderful things we all love.  When I brought it up to my city mates every single person replied with something along the lines of "Once enemies get into the city, everyone is fair game. That's just how it is. You can hire on them for that though if you weren't defending."

It's probably the only rule I have never really seen followed by hardly anyone, and it seems most players don't mind it. Like @Shirszae said, most people just accept death as part of a raid.

Shrine defiling on the other hand, I usually see people sticking to the rules there....but not always. Usually though , people don't seem to mind then either. If you know someone is defiling a shrine then you should probably have enough sense to know they are probably hostile, but whatever....

The rules are the rules and we all should follow them.

Now not to derail this thread - What happened to me today? Nothing, I idled afk almost all day after reading these posts. I have lost all fear of the AFK radiance death as I focus on other things and don't look at my screen.

Find a small sound file, like 1-2s long, that is as obnoxious as humanly possible. Put that in the directory for your mudlet profile.
Make a trigger with lines of:
A shiver runs down your spine, and you feel an instinctive urge to run as far and fast as you can.
            and
^A shimmering image of the face of \w+ appears fleetingly before you, frowning in concentration.$

    Then:
    if not hasFocus() then
        playSoundFile(getMudletHomeDir().. [[/obnoxiousSE.mp3]])
    end

You're welcome. (ps you can do this for anything you want, that you want to notice when alt-tabbed/afk... Tells etc)
