Hello!

I am trying to git gud with a warhammer and need some clarification on my combat.

Regarding the ability to battlefury focus, the helpfiles state that by focusing precision "damage dealt by the next attack will be reduced, but the number of limb-based afflictions dealt will be doubled." Is this referring to the build up of "fractures"? Fractures are, to the best of my knowledge, what gives afflictions when fighting as a 2hander, with different body parts contributing to different afflictions (especially if not using sword/venoms and not counting runes). Likewise, does it also mean that the limb-damage will be reduced? Or, does "decreased damage" refer to HP reduction?

Is the following correct?

-UNFOCUSED: x hits to prep limb, standard fracture buildup, standard damage/limb damage.

-FOCUS SPEED: x hits to prep limb, standard fracture buildup (reduced fracture? doesn't say that, if so), standard damage/limb damage, faster balance recovery.

-FOCUS PRECISION: x hits to prep limb, double fracture buildup, reduced damage/standard limb damage, slower balance recovery.

or

-FOCUS PRECISION: >x hits to prep limb, double fracture buildup, reduced damage/reduced limb damage, slower balance recovery.

According to this breakdown, I can't see any reason to NOT focus either speed or precision. Speed seems like unfocused but faster, precision is slower, but more afflicting. Is this correct? Please clarify if possible.

Secondly, do 2handers have an instakill? For flavour, I would like to only use a warhammer. I've heard that warhammers are better at limb-damage than bastard swords, albeit slower at afflicting (lack of venoms, obviously). So, I would be capitalizing on my prep, vs momentum. However, I'm also aware that fracture build up is important. Do bastard swords and warhammers build up fractures at the same rate even if limb damage is different (if that is indeed the case)?

And, a question regarding limb damage:

Limb damage is dealt according to strength, weaponmastery skill, and opponents health, right (at least in regards to 2h RW)? I know, for example, Druids have a hydra combo that preps limbs in 3 hits regardless of strength or opponents. I'm guessing this is because Druid is essentially entirely a prep class vs 2h RW which is both prep and momentum. Is this also correct? And, does limb damage cause afflictions for every class or are the afflictions that I'm delivering by pulverizing limbs specific to 2h?

Sorry to have so many questions, thanks in advance for any answers.

edited for wording clarification.

I'm thinking about using my first multiclass to do Runewarden. I'm primarily thinking about using if for just bashing, but it would be good to be decent in a fight. At least group combat.

I remember old Runie where the only option was really DWC, but I keep hearing a lot in favor of DWB and 2H these days. I know this is a bit of a rehash on older threads, but they all 2 years old and since I just came back after so long, I don't know what all, if any, has changed.

So what do you all think is the most effective bashing spec (Artie or unartied, I'll get them eventually), and is a welcome addition to group combat, unless runie is only good for propping.

Salutations folks.

I've been trying to learn Runewarden two-handed combat and build a system of triggers and keybindings around abilities, but I need some help. I've been reading through the forums, asking around in a couple clans in game, and trying my best to apply what I get there to my systems and approaches. However, it seems like no matter what class I step into the arena to face off against, I keep getting wrecked in one-on-ones and I can't really tell where I'm flubbing up. I'm really starting to feel like I'm being a nuisance dragging folks in just to get exasperated, frustrated, and not making any headway, and while I try not to let that show, it's been getting worse lately. Sorry to the few of you that've seen that.

That said, if there's anything glaringly wrong you guys can see of my assessment below or any advice you can offer, I'd be really grateful.

To start with, I'm gonna cover what all I do know and some of the trouble I'm running into right now. Any insight you guys can provide is highly appreciated.

Skills:

Runelore, Weaponmastery, Chivalry: Transcendant

Weaponry: Up to parrying

Avoidance: Nada, but it's my next skill focus unless advised otherwise.

Runelore Applications:

Basic Three: Jera, Algiz, and Berkana are needed for STR/CON +1, 10% damage reduction, and health regen respectively.

Runeblade: Lagul, Lagua, and Laguz on an empowered blade. I've been using Hugalaz for extra damage, but would Nairat be better for hindering?

Runicarmour: I've empowered my armour, so it's got the 100 months of Gebu/Gebo on it for increased blunt/cutting resist.

Dagaz/Uruz: I've been trying to sketch up "safe" rooms with Dagaz and Uruz, leaving another rune slot free for utility or attack runes. I've also been trying to barge opponents into these "safe" rooms to get them out of harmonics/rites/room buffs to gain an advantage.

Thurisaz: Been using a triple sketch of Thurisaz in an unsketched room to break shields and do some prep damage before barging.

Othala: Been trying to sketch Othala as the first action during an engagement, but I've not had much luck with that. I've been trying to utilize it off a devastate arms so that I can sketch unhindered, but I can't manage to even get to that point.

Weaponmastery:

Overhand: I realize that most opponents going up against Two-Hander are going to parry head, so I make sure to reflexively check for head parry, and if my opponent is, I swap to an underhand instead.

Underhand: Likewise, if parrying torso, I go for overhand.

Arm/Leg Hew: Swap direction if parrying left or right side.

Perceive: Using perceive before each attack and on regaining balance. I have this outputting info to a geyser GUI element.

Recover Footing: Recovering footing at the start of each attack.

Speed/Precision: Utilizing speed for underhand to add to the hurt and drop HP quick, using precision to stack fractures on limbs.

Devastate: Been trying to get up to three fractures before making a single devastate so that it's 4 seconds of hinderance against melee classes.

Envenom: Been using curare for the most part as a gamble hinder/herb crunch, but I'm starting to wonder if that's useless. Also have been taking a swing at epteth/epseth, but I'm not sure if both limbs are being afflicted. Also with it being a mending application, I'm not sure if that cures fractures/resets limb damage, but I've been erring on the side of "yes" for both.

Chivalry:

Barge: I push things gud. No but seriously as noted above, I've been using barge to push people into prepped rooms.

Falcon: Got talons, order falcon to slay on every attack.

Engage: I've been engaging after the first attack, and I'm systematically keeping track of if I'm engaged or not.

Fury: This is probably the one ability I've gotten a lot of mixed info about. I've been saving fury for when I move into the kill phase of my setup - prepping legs, devastating legs, upsetting, impaling, and disemboweling. I am honestly wondering, since I'm not really able to engage at length, if I need to just Fury up at the beginning of each spar or fight.

Systems:

Curing: Serverside

Defences: Serverside

Offense:
- Client-side macros/keybindings, triggers, and aliases.
- A few server-side aliases (mostly pre-attack prep alias to avoid hitting the eqbal limit).
- Serverside queuing system. (Most of my attack commands are "clearqueues all" and "queue add eqbal ...")

The basic flow of my fight, or my tactics as I attempt them, is as follows:

Turn on combat-focused defenses that I can't keep up constantly due to mana/willpower limits.

Sketch prep rooms with dagaz/uruz

Break shields and maybe do a little damage with triple Thurisaz.

Barge opponent out of room and into prep room.

Speed/Underhand with Curare to sips. First attack sets falcon to slay and engages target.

Precision/Arms to 3+ fractures.

Devastate arms.

Sketch Othala

Utilize restoration/othala down-time to heal

Underhand precision to stick some sensitivity - 4-6 fractures.

Precision/Arms to 3 fractures

Precision/Legs to 6 fractures.

Speed/Devastate arms for restoration balance.

Devastate legs/battlefury upset to break legs and prone.

Impale/Disembowel.

As of right now... I get to step five, get constantly locked by paralysis, have to spam my hit keys which fills mudlet with "frustratingly your muscles refuse to cooperate" or whatever the paralysis line is, I can't tell what hits I actually do get in, and then I have to back out of the room. If I'm lucky, I'm back to step 5 and stepping back into the room. If I'm not, I'm back to step 3. If I'm really unlucky, I'm at the spectator stands.

Any insight is really appreciated at this point. I enjoy the "feel" of two-hander and the theory behind its combat, but it's slowly becoming something that's really frustrating and draining dealing with.

I might start being around slightly less soon(getting busy rl again), so spent some time this morning to write this non-specific SnB guide while hungover/bored.

This is a newbie guide, so not particularly useful for non-newbies. Overall, SnB is a straightforward prep/aff class but shieldstrikes allow room for complexity.

Your Tools

-Sword attacks

Each sword attack allows envenoming.

Slice : This is your fastest attack and allows limb targeting, hence, your bread and butter attack. Important in delivering venoms that shield smashes otherwise cannot.

Guardbreaks : Generates +1 ferocity. Quite useful for generating additional ferocity for prepping/finishers. Doesn't allow targeting.

Rend : Does more limb damage relative to slice. Not particularly useful because of the long balance time.

Raze : Razes rebounding/shield, in that order.

Note : Targeted attacks do 25% less damage.

-Shield smashes

Each of these shield attacks generate +1 ferocity. Has a limited aff pool.

Drive : gives asthma

Low : Gives clumsiness

Mid : Gives paralysis

High : Prevents focusing for 2.5 seconds and gives mental affs in this order, doesn't overlap existing mental affs if present : { dizziness, recklessness, stupidity, confusion, epilepsy }

Trip : Prones someone

Club : Stuns a prone person, can only be used in conjunction with impale and any level 2 broken limb.

-Shieldstrikes

These require 4 levels of ferocity to perform and are balanceless. These can't bypass shield/rebounding and be used while paralyzed however. Can't be used while impaling someone either.

Shieldstrike low : This prones someone. It allows you to bypass parry if used simultaneously with a combination slice/rend/shield smash.

Shieldstrike mid : Gives sensitivity

Shieldstrike high : Stuns for 0.5 seconds

-Combinations

Allows you to combine a sword attack with a shield attack, which is what you'll be doing 99% of the time. This allows for proper afflicting/razing.

-Dedication

Allows you to bypass paralysis and use any combination attack() but you pay an increasing health/mana penalty when used consistently and consecutively. Allows for prio switching while maintaining offensive momentum but can backfire if used carelessly. Certain classes can capitalize on mana loss pretty well.

------------------------------------

Aff Paths

Depending on the class you're fighting, you'll want to vary your strategy. Sticking illness will let you bypass parrying.

-Focuslock :

Most of your paths will tend to lead to this eventually. Generally involves making your opponent play a game of focus roulette when completed properly.

kelp stack -- (when you have at least 2 kelp affs stuck on your opponent, one of them being asthma)

gecko/smash mid -- (when you notice your opponent eats kelp but doesn't smoke, you can assume slickness is stuck | when your opponent eats bloodroot, proceeding becomes 50/50 paralysis or slickness)

slike/smash high -- (if your opponent doesn't apply a salve until this point -- they are soft-focuslocked / could probs expect shield spamming from smart opponents)

paralysis/smash high -- (you'll want to have enough ferocity to prone them at this point with a shieldstrike low to prevent shielding/paralysis to prevent touch tree - from here it's a 1/3 chance your opponent will focus anorexia)

mental aff venom/smash high -- (preferably aconite or whatever prevents the active heal of x class)

-Salvelock :

Requires two leg breaks or leg/head. A pretty good strat against momentum classes that static parry torso, leaving their head/legs unparried. Not particularly useful against opponents that can hinder your movements while they aren't in the room because of tumble.

stick asthma/slickness and make sure opponent's tree is on cooldown --(weariness too if they can use fitness)

break leg1 with slike/smash high --(can't focus anorexia/stand/shield)

break leg2 or head with paralysis/smash high --(head might be better, so your opponent will have 3 mental affs at this point - 1/3 chance to focus anorexia)

keep stacking mentals -> sensitivity -> random affs

Alternatively..

3-4 kelp stack and make sure opponent's tree is on cooldown.

break leg1 with shieldstrike low/gecko/smash mid --(pray to rngesus for a non-asthma/slickness cure)

attack leg2 with slike/smash high -- (they'll apply epidermal and mending before step 4 if slickness is cured)

attack leg2 again with slike/smash high into gecko/drive or gecko/smash high -- (if asthma/slickness was cured or just slickness)

paralysis/smash high -> mental aff stack -> random affs

--This path is particularly deadly with a Nairat runeblade vs bad prios, since it guarantees a dsb whenever
--Might have flawed logic here

-Damage stack :

For damaging out non-tanky people. Use untargeted slices/engage.

stick sensitivity into a 2/3-kelp aff stack -- (shieldstrike mid is useful)

illness/darkshade

focus lock

-Darkshade stack :

Useful against serps next to a lightwall.

stack darkshade/illness/addiction with paralysis/clumsiness + dedication

focus lock

-Prep stack :

Versus classes or people that tend to run, prepping them slowly into a disembowel is a good way to kill them.

stick illness (or clumsiness first, depending)

focus lock

-Epseth/Trip :

You can epseth/trip versus random torso resto applies but I personally don't use this much because you risk losing most aff momentum on fake applies.

-Anti-INT monk stack :

Only somewhat useful in groups with other aff classes versus INT monks, since stupidity prevents telepathy attacks. Smash high gives you access to mental affs not otherwise available to DWC. You're probably still going to die to artied kai chokes though.

aconite/smash high spam

eurypteria(etc)/smash high etc --(if they don't eat goldenseal)

aconite/smash high --(when they finally focus)

-----------------------------------

Finisher Strats

-Disembowel

Your main kill strat. The standard path requires a single leg break in combination with impale/club - without the stun, your opponent can writhe out in time. An opponent tumbling within ~2 seconds of the leg break allows them to leave the room before your disembowel goes through.

Torso damage greatly modifies the damage depending on STR.

In general :

Break torso

Break leg/trip/shieldstrike high or shieldstrike low/combination --(if they don't apply restoration to torso)

Impale/club

Dsb

Reverse :

If you have a level 2/3 longsword, you could optionally :

Break leg/trip/shieldstrike high or shieldstrike low/combination --(if they don't apply restoration to torso)

Break torso

Impale/club

Dsb

Gives your opponent a longer tumble window though.

Versus monks :

You can also kill unsuspecting opponents with an arm break and 4 ferocity. Best used on monks to prevent kai cripple.

Break torso

Stop attacking and wait for them to combo you

Break arm immediately when they do -- (if they don't apply to torso)

Shieldstrike low/impale/club

Disembowel

--Note :

SnB cannot punish tumblers as heavily as DWC can via lunge/engage and lacks the ability to damage past constant shielding/rebounding.

Runewardens get a stacking bonus from Lagua.

Paladins get +2 STR from Inspiration

Antonius' dsb testing : Link

-Damnation

Paladin SnBs are the "SnB gods" and SnB's finisher path for Damnation just happens to be pretty op. The advantage you'll have over DWC is the ability to either prone without losing affliction momentum or give an extra kelp aff on a tertiary balance (via shieldstrike mid).

There are several ways to go about this but the general strat is :

Prep head/leg.

Break leg with asthma + 2 kelp affs --(hope they don't cure asthma, weariness is important against fitness users) or try and break with a focuslock

Break head --(use anorexia/smash high for 3 mental affs + inability to focus/apply salve from being off salve balance from leg apply)

Hellsight (narrow window for your opponent to stand -> escape/go kelp fishing)

Damnation

-Vivisect

Vivisect is somewhat viable but not particularly effective. You'll need a focus lock and two limb breaks (preferrable two legs). SnB Infernals get additional maggot affs which can steadily overwhelm an opponent with dedication though.

Focus or truelock

Shieldstrike low/break leg1 + epteth

Break leg2 + epteth

Vivisect --(if they don't restore at any point, if they do, trample with the limbcrusher trait)

----------------------------------

Shieldstrike Strats

Shieldstrike low

During the start of a group fight, using 2 guardbreaks to quickly generate 4 ferocity into shieldstrike low/impale allows you to impale someone. If they're a class with a long balance recovery, even better.

Using this at the start of a combination attack allows you to bypass parry.

Shieldstrike mid

Kelp stacking and aff momentum. Particularly useful versus other momentum classes.

Shieldstrike high

This has the potential to delay curing, pretty powerful but hard to time right. (aka if someone regains herb balance in 0.1 seconds and you shieldstrike them, they won't be able to eat for 0.4 more seconds)

Useful for narrowing the tumbling window on a leg break.

----------------------------------

SnB has it's perks and whatnot. It's particularly strong against certain momentum classes because of dedication.

I wouldn't say it's better than the other specs or most classes.

[spoiler]unless you're a SnB paladin.[/spoiler]

Dual blunt has me pretty intrigued. It looks like a limb prep class that trades some of hindering potential for being brutally efficient in getting breaks and dealing massive damage. Is this a correct assessment? Is its bashing potential, with some arties, stronger than dragonform?

If I were to change and traded in everything I have that is not useful for blunt, i'd have about 3900 to spend. I would already have level 1 con, level one sip, and level one bracelets. What should my spending priorities be? All of the weapons is a little bit of a turn off right now, but as long as I can get my bashing to surpass what dragon is now I will be happy. That is top priority, if my bashing doesn't improve, I don't want to change.

So summary, what is dual blunt like? Can I expect my bashing to improve over dragonform (with soa) with the artefacts i have and what i have to spend? What should I spend my credits on? And when should I use flails vs morningstars? Which are more important? When does gaining strength become not worth it? With 16 base, jera, fury, level one strength, I could reach 20. Is level two strength useful to get to 21?

Also, is xoran good enough or is the troll racial actually pretty decent? I think that's all my questions for now. Thanks for reading!

Hello, I'm new to Achaea, therefore I have many questions.

My current situations are :

Currently playing troll, with level bellow 15

Slow connection (~200ms), so I guess no momentum based class, no 2H

Not planning to artie, at least for now

However, soon or later, I will purchase the no-brainer lessons package

Still brand new in Achaea, but played casually (no pvp) in Lusternia

Although still new in here, I'm planning to do pvp later

Preferably, playing with generic reflex (scripts which already available for free in the forum), with minor adjustment, and doing minor scripting.

I'm not planning to be the top 100 or anything. I just aim not to be suck / be a bottom feeder in pvp

I'm not sure if I will do 1v1 or in the group later, still new, no friends nor houses yet

Currently playing using Nexus, but I have Mudlet and Mushclient too. At least, I can create simple trigger and alias using them. For now, I'm just curious about Nexus

Anyway, I'm still doubting about the race and its stat. Regarding the race, should I choose :

Troll with its electric resist and stun chances, combined with Runewarden's DWB

Human with its crit chance and sip bonus chance, with DWC for attack speed. I heard crit is more important for late game

Rajamala, for avoidance and cold resist. I heard cold attack is more common than electric

Tash'la, not sure about the racial trait, but with Tash'la, I can make 15 str / 14 con (str trait, str spec). Unfortunately, the dex is only 11

Dwarf for the resists, and I can make 14 str /14 con, also with only 11 dex

Now, my question :

Is it better to sacrifice dex for a better str / con, for pvp? For example, should I substract the dex to 11 dex (for more str/con), or should I try to keep the dex at 12?

Should I maximize str (to 15 or 16), or should I try to balance it with con? I heard about diminishing return on str and wondering about this

With above situation, which race and weaponspec is suitable for my runewarden?

What's the priority of skill groups that needed to be transed, and which skills should be taken, minimum, in order to be an average pvp?

Any scripts recommended for runewarden pvp?

Thank you, and sorry if I ask many questions

Hi there, had a couple questions about the best way to go about things (some of it script related)

I perceive on my attack aliases, so it ends up being a huge flood of text. Should I instead be triggering perceive on when attacks land? Or should I funnel trigger it out to a GUI component? (I'm competent enough at scripting to do either) -- does there exist an on prompt tracker for it?

as a 20 year old, tri trans, with a lv0 bastard and in siren (so 15str/14con runed) -- do I stand a chance? I don't really want to swap races for another strength, but I guess I could -- or should I just throw money at the problem and get an artefact bastard? Or throw even more money at the problem and get a belt? (keeping in mind lesson wise im tri trans, up to mountjump in riding, up to tumble/fitness) Is your possible PK ceiling affected by your willingness to min/max and throw money at the problem? Or can someone really good unartefacted compete.

How many fractures will typically let me get a double DSB off? Is it 6? or 7?

Hugalaz is the rune to go for on the blade? Envenoming curare to keep them in one place?

Should I be focusing precision with my lack of damage or should I be using speed? Or should I script it to swap it up on the fly.

When should I be engaging? Should I have it as part of my attack line? or just do it at the start of the fight / trigger it off of DSB as a backup?

What do I do against aff classes? I'm obviously gonna get whipped if i sit there trying to sketch runes on the ground. Do I run and turtle up with stonewalls/build a room up how I want rune wise?

I forgot Falcons are a thing and will be getting one tomorrow. How do I work those into an attack?

Thank you!

edit: some of this could be construed as a bellyache, it's not. It's someone genuinely interested in getting better.
So, I recently moved over from another IRE game, retiring my character in the process. I've been just casually playing lately, but I'm now ready to dive a bit more into the game since I have the ability to invest more time. I currently love just the idea of Runewarden from a thematic perspective, and I really want to remain as this class. My questions are, how viable is it in the mid-top range tier of pvp? I understand that most classes can do well based on their user, but I certainly doubt that I'll ever be the greatest master of Achaean combat. I'd simply like to reach a respectable level.

My next question is what specialization would everyone recommend? I'm currently SnB for bashing, but I'm looking to possibly change to another in the near future when I hit the 85-90 level range. I don't really have a style preference for any of them, and I'm simply looking for what would probably be the most effective.

Lastly, I'm still sitting on most of the credits from my retirement, and I'm unsure of how to spend them. I have around 3900 to deal with. So far, I set aside 1600 for artefact weapons, (Either a single level 3 or 2x Level 2). I still need to trans Riding, Survival, and Chivalry. That'll be another 600 credits or so after I get the lessons packages. That'll leave me with around 1700 credits free at the moment. My current stats after class boosts are 17 str, 12 dex, 14 con, 10 intelligence.

Hey guys, now that I've had a bit of time to get familiar with the class (though, still learning more every day!) I thought I'd start some more conversation about S&B combat (new thread since other one went .. sour). This isn't necessarily for advanced people only (particularly since I'm still new to it myself), so please don't feel free to jump in with thoughts or questions, and please don't be offended if I'm saying things that are obvious to higher skill people.

Few things I've noticed: (note: I'm at peak speed with L3 longsword (runed), nimble, buckler)

First of all, smash high is really, really hard to use well. It was immediately apparent that just using it back to back really doesn't work as well as I initially expected. It is still a pretty awesome move, which I'll come back to when I talk about lock ideas in a second.

Second of all, I'm finding that choosing when to use shieldstrike is really challenging. So far I'm using sensi to stack herbs/kelp early on, and occassionally stun to help build mental stacks. Shieldsmash high combo, then a stun/para/metal combo x2, then another shieldsmash high combo is a really good 4-hit combo that helps stack up fast (the first delays focus, and if the second combo lands before they focus (works only with L3 longsword) you can delay the focus for another chunk of time with the stun. They focus (3 second balance) which regains them focus balance just in time for your fourth hit (which kills focus balance again). This buys you 8 seconds of metal stacking with only one focus, and can be repeated easily enough (although tree+passive still makes it a bitch).

Another thing I noticed, Expert Diagnose is MUST HAVE for this class. If you're playing S&B and you're not too familiar with Expert Diagnose, I highly recommend that you get it and master the art of using it well. It's fairly simple for knights, but it can dramatically increase the speed and effectiveness of stacking any type of affliction. The key to its use is using it to prevent re-afflicting things your opponent has. They most simple (and common) example is if you're building up kelp afflictions and you give them clumsiness/asthma. When they eat kelp you can just check for asthma. If they have it, then they cured clumsiness (so, hit them with it again). If they're negative for asthma, then you know what to do (and you know not to hit with clumsiness again). I recommend sticking to splitting 50/50 odds for people who're new to it, but it can be far more effective when you get good with it. Not that this is news to some people, but you should also be watching for symptoms and giveaways. In the asthma/clumsiness example, if they eat a kelp then smoke, you know what they cured (and you also know that they're going to have rebounding soon). Gotta watch this stuff carefully!

Guardbreak is a ridiculously good opener. At first I was struggling to find a good use for this (after I stopped struggling to figure out why it is called Guardbreaker). It took asking around a bit, but it is essentially just a charge-up ability for Ferocity. It has a 3 second balance (all knights should be nimble), delivers a single venom, and can't target limbs. It does weak damage, but who cares - you should only really be using it in two situations (that I'm aware of so far), neither of which use damage.
-> First off it's amazing to open combat with. I usually open with a single Guardbreak. It gives you TWO ferocity per hit, is a nice safe way to determine if they have rebounding up [without whiffing a raze], and gives you a point of ferocity even if you hit rebounding. Raze combos do too, but they can only give you a single point of ferocity, best case, and the 1 affliction you land with shieldsmash is (as far as I can tell) totally meaningless because you're only landing 1 aff and they'll have herb balance back before you regain balance from raze. Early guardbreak buys you an earlier Sensi strike, which means faster kelp stacking, more damage (from the strike iself as well as sensitivity), and more passive/tree fodder (this also seems to trigger most "default" tree scenarios too, which is good since at this point it's still relatively easy to find out what the tree cured).
-> The second use of guardbreak I've seen (credits to @Exelethril for pointing this out to me) should be avoided at all costs, but can be better than the alternatives. If you find yourself in a situation where you have to initiate a kill sequence, but don't have enough Ferocity, Guardbreak will get you there the fastest (assuming you need two or more). One (of several) example is if someone tumbles away from ya to a room you can't necessarily chase to (or don't want to leave your ground runes). You can easily hit with a guardbreak for 2 ferocity (only if you need it) and use something like shieldstrike/impale or shieldstrike sensi (only if you still have their deafness down) and your max damage hit (dat L3 hugalaz runeblade Rend) in hopes of ending them, in combination with Engage. If you time that right, they have sensitivity for the

Eihwaz. It's extremely amazing. It procs on Slice, Rend, and Guardbreak (and technically I think Slash, which you should literally never use). In my mind, the only good knight is an affliction knight. I'd literally turn off damage if I could, just to preclude the ubiquitous and annoying accidental kill during prep/stack phase. If you feel the same way, then you should be using Eiwaz for everything other than your midbie-smiting broadsword finisher (may as well put hugalaz on it, it's only good for last-hitting). Eihwaz is one of those funny abilities (akin to expert diagnose) that is insanely powerful if you are an expert at both tracking afflictions and applying the information quickly and intelligently.
Since you should never plan on an Eihwaz proc, 100% of them should be a surprise, but are surprises that can provide massive opportunities that you couldn't have possibly pulled off 1 second earlier. First and foremost, you have to actually know what affliction it masked. Not to sound mean here, but if you can do this accurately and actually register the information in your mind prior to the next attack, you're already "better" than 95% of the playerbase. If you can't do this, then I strongly suggest setting up a simple trigger for it that displays what was masked (if you're using Combination, it's a pretty basic multiline Trigger to set up a highlight for it. I personally don't use this, because I can clearly see the proc and I know [and can see] the venom I used on each combo - https://ada-young.appspot.com/pastebin/15b16977).
You have to be really smart (and/or really experienced) to be able to use this well and spot the difference between useless procs and extremely good ones. There are a lot of times that it's going to be useless. Examples are paralysis which they will always see, recklessness, prefarar(deafness) thanks to prompt defs, and asthma if it's too early to be used for a lock attempt. Obviously (?) Asthma is one of the best afflictions to be masked, but if your opponent is using rebounding, they're going to notice asthma really early on due to symptoms. If they're not using rebounding, then you should IMMEDIATELY stop using any kelp or smoking cured afflictions, and make use of expert diagnose if they already had one and eat a kelp (in the example I posted, @Amranu's system sat idly with asthma until he diagnosed). If you can't turn this into a lock (you can hard-lock anyone without fitness in a single combination (ephorbia+limb break) if you catch them off tree balance with "hidden" asthma). Weariness/paralysis on the next jab is a truelock sans impatience (gg). Other amazing afflictions to sneak to watch out for are weariness (so good that I am considering just throwing it into preps purely in hopes that it procs Eihwaz), stupidity (many systems won't even catch it despite stupidity procs), clumsiness/sensitivity (both are situational), nausea (very, very good, and I'm fairly certain it's parry proc doesn't diagnose it yet), voyria (negates having to use it twice to cancel out passives), anorexia (they'll immediatley see it, but just the extra delay incurred on their next herb makes it valuable, and it also gets them to focus later after your combo [you don't want them to focus immediately after you hit them]).
- Useless affs to mask: darkshade, paralysis, disfigurement, addiction slickness, epteth/epseth, shyness

Damage stacking: Oldie but a goodie. Smash just got nerfed (I'm not sure why they didn't just lower the damage, the condition to the nerf makes it so it only does more damage in a handful of scenarios in which damage doesn't matter). With the right arties, you can kill about 75% of the playerbase with isaz+engage and stacked damage. I've yet to actually use my falcon in combat, and I've spiked down people with > 6000 health. It's easy enough to stop, but that's how it should be.

Fight mounted. There is zero reason not to, aside from the fact that mounts are a pain in the d--k and are absurdly expensive. Unless you have greaves, Mountjump and fly alone should be reason enough (which is good because they're basically the only skills in Riding that matter). IMO if you're serious about combat, you should buy an artie pet (or at least a collared legenary) and mithril spurs. Spurs+vault is one of those things you'll get used to then refuse to play without after you realize how amazing it is. You can also kneel/tumble and dismount/sketch when necessary at no additional cost.

Locking. God, there are like 20 ways to do it, and counting. You can lock off limb breaks, eihwaz procs, riftlock, lock off straight mental stacks (in reverse), lock using blackout, and truelock with drag... oh yeah, that's classified. You can also lock obscenely fast if you're with anyone else with easy access to impatience (dragons, monks, bards, apostates, shamans). And apostate + SnB knight combination should be able to truelock in a single combo, or worst-case, two.

Fitness. I know I just got it nerfed, but it's still one of the most powerful active abilities in the game. Learn to use it.
Wunjo/Nairat/Tumble. Nothing new here. Proper use of this yields immortality.
Gular. Remember dying to monks? Me neither. Combine with wunjo/nariat.

Isaz procs. People seem to downplay this, and I think they're probably justified, but do try to keep in mind that it's a free parry bypass, results in extra damage from physical attacks, can buy you a free concuss (use sparingly), and if you're lucky, it can buy you an extra shieldstrike attack (instead of having to use shielstrike low) going into impale sequences. Never just impale on isaz procs just because you can. I know it's tempting, but it just doesn't do anything for ya.

Arc. I've yet to find anything useful for runewarden, but obviously great for infernal and amazing for paladin.

Damnation - so incredibly overpowered for SnB that I actually chose Runewarden over Paladin because I would honestly feel like I'm abusing something broken. If you can't figure out how to pull of Damnation as SnB then you should probably be a runewarden (just being funny here, no offense - although I mean it).

Lunge. Sure freakin' miss it. My classlead for Evade counters also got approved, so we'll see something soon, but for now, it seems we're stuck with either squinting (use search or lifevision vs serpents) or just good guesswork. If they're being pansies, just equip your newb-smiter (broadsword) and get Rending those limbs. With a L3 broad you can prep people with 4-5k hp with 5 rends or so **** (I highly recommend not using rend to prep limbs at all unless you have Manda, or are willing to risk Slice not breaking the limb on the next hit).

DSB - have yet to use it.

Dedication - Overpowered, should probably be deleted or entirely repurposed - unless the intention is to make Knights (even more) immune to venomlocks. Being able to apply offensive hindrance (so many options) while simultaneously swapping asthma > para is insanity. You're now able to completely mitigate kelp stacks thanks to ignoring curare, you still have Fitness, and runie and paladin also have passive healing on top of it. Add this to the fact that you have piety/GH/isaz that allow you to bail at any time without being chased, and Vault which allows you to fight mounted, thus allowing you to walk with broken legs. The only downside to dedication is some very minor damage taken while paralyzed, however you already have some of the best damage mitigation and HPS in the game (all three knights can heal scary fast), and the classes that you'd use Dedication against don't even care about damage (except for priest!).

Club - Not sure why this exists. I'm hoping there's something that it's useful for other than ganking (it's amazing for ganking), but I haven't been able to pin it down yet.

Big thanks to @Achimrst, @Amranu, @Deladan, @Lothiac, and quite a few others, for letting me beat up on them all afternoon. I'm sure I'm leaving some things out, and I'm sure people can find a few things to pick apart. Disclaimer: if I made any errors, please be sure to understand that there is no difference between wrong about something and being a bold-faced liar.

Discuss, critique, add!

In a recent thread, interest in these (and other) equations was polled, and not surprisingly, was found to be in high demand.

As such, I would like to publicize the results, as they currently stand. Please bear in mind that I have not yet released the SnB Manda update (as I have not yet confirmed that it is "perfect"), but I am currently working with at least one individual in beta testing and continued mathematical pursuit of confirmation of its accuracy, along with any fine-tuning, if required.

I won't feign humility here, but I won't exaggerate either. I've put hundreds of hours into figuring out how to determine these equations, including determining the method in which Achaea itself stores and distributes limb damage. Each attack also takes a pretty massive amount of time for data collection and math crunching (so far every attack I've done this for has been a new process). I won't get too far into this subject, but please simply be aware that these came at a massive time cost, and releasing this will almost certainly result in a massive actual cost (to me). It simply does not seem right to me that if someone chooses not to use Manda, that they simply won't be able to reliably use a key part of combat (reliable limb breaks).

So, here's what I have so far:

Disclaimer:

Everything in this thread is subjective, and not endorsed by IRE or stated to be based on the actual game code - it's simply observation based on data and various mathematical techniques). It's permanently a work in progress, until such a time that IRE decides to confirm or release the equations themselves.

A character's limbs (all six being identical) have hit points. The amount of hit points appears to be equal to the player's max HP. (There are various modifications or alternatives to this assumption, many of which I have tested and ruled out)

Changes in max health do not change limb damage in any way, aside from impacting the amount of limb damage future attacks will do.

Limb damage does "roll over" level 1 breaks into preparation for level 2 breaks. The limb HP for level 2 breaks appears to be identical.

It would appear that limb damage actually "adds" from zero, as opposed to subtracting from full health, based on several specific tests. Alternatively (and inconsequentially) it may be a subtraction, if "missing" limb health is shifted down with changes in max health. Limb breaks are determined on attacks, so this would actually allow "negative" limb HP (although I would assume it is actually limited to either 1 or 0). Ex: A player with 5,000HP is 500 damage away from a break, and then reduces their health to 4,000HP. The limb could be at either -500, 0, or perhaps 1 health, any of which would result in any limb damage attack breaking the limb when hit. This has been confirmed experimentally. (Interesting note: If negative limb damage was not restricted, it would, in very extreme cases of max health shift and pre-existing limb damage, be possible to "jump" level 1 breaks directly to a level 2 break, barring the possibility that limb break function (in the game code) doesn't check for a level 1 break in order to register a level 2.)

All forms of limb damage appear to be stored in integer form, and various operations upon them are also either rounded or floored, which can create visible errors if not accounted for. (Due to other equations in Achaea's code frequently using flooring, I suspect this is the case here as well, although limb damage code is very old. Who knows.)

Nothing in the game appears to mitigate/reduce limb damage. An attack either does full limb damage, or it does none at all.

(most) Limb damage equations are much like HP damage equations, in that they have multiple portions that scale differently with different factors. However, not all equations (contrary to some rumors) share the same structure, nor do constants, coefficients, or much of anything else seem to be shared. The only unifying detail appears to be that a portion of the damage scales with health, and the rest will not.

Weapon type does not appear to affect anything, just stats.

The Slice equation, in its current state (which I am still polishing due to developing an additional mathematical technique which allows for some very useful cross-referencing and far more precision):

Where:
d = weapon damage (multiplied by 1.30 if the weapon is a runeblade (!))
h = max health

I would say that I am currently 99.9% certain that this is the correct formula, and 97% certain that these are the correct values, due to the fact that it matches all data available over various weapon types (only longsword/broadsword for Slice), artefact levels, and hundreds of health values, while also remaining aesthetic (integers and perfect fractions).

note: I am currently assuming that limb damage is floored (decimal values are cut off to produce an integer) after the equation is evaluated (each hit). This assumption yields perfectly accurate results (so far).

I am continuing to use several techniques and gathering additional data to verify that these constants aren't slightly off (although it'd almost seem malicious if 400 were something like 397), but even slight adjustments to any of these values yield dramatic shifts, particularly over repeated hits.

For those using or considering using Manda, know that you're losing nothing here - this'll all still be in the system, and nothing is changing. There are also many features unique to the system that I believe make it very useful, beyond the fact that it houses many such equations, and will soon also support Tekura.

I hope this is helpful for people, and I also hope it helps to alleviate some other concerns.

Hello everyone, yes It's your resident Achaean Class Changer.

So flavour of the week is Runewarden and it got me thinking about the whole prep to disembowel.

I understand that Runewarden is considered a burst class - stack some runes, throw some pref/curare and watch them die, likewise really for Paladin, because lets be honest - Damnation is pretty weak.

Infernal is the "technical" kill with vivisect, and now with frenzy, a load of other options that we wont go into.

This got me thinking about Disembowel and how it works, and after a few spars, speaking with Antonius and Anedhel and brainstorming, I came to the conclusion that it's a bit underwhelming.

Don't get me wrong, I've maxed out strength and can ensure a 1 shot kill on disembowel on most people with level 1 torso break, the problem comes way before then.

If someone static parries their left leg, and I need to break that for a disembowel, I then have to spend god knows how long doing one of a few options to get past this to prep it for the break. This can be either a series of venoms leading them to be paralysed, breaking the opposite leg with delphinium to prone them for a few hits to prep, breaking both arms etc.

The problem I have seen is that it takes far too long to bypass parry; unlike Monk (rhk) Sylvan (vinewreathe or whatever it's called) Blademaster (airfist) Druid (Something to with Hydra I think, not sure on this one) we have to spend the good part of our fight trying to prep one limb, which can take anywhere from a minute, up to and including 5 minutes. The issue is once you prep that limb - if it takes over 5 minutes, your target can switch parry to another limb, meaning you now have to re-prep that (right leg for instance) or alternatively, shell up halfway through your option to start breaking that limb, meaning you have to start over.

I'm not asking for their to be an identical way to bypass parry for Knight because, for some reason, people seem to think this will be "overpowered" when tumble stops disembowel 99.9% of the time, however I would like some ideas on either quicker ways to bypass parry, ideas on something a Knight could get (skillwise) to aid in this, perhaps 1 slash against the limb, the other intercepting their parrying body part etc.

Floors open, sorry if this makes no sense, I've just finished work and my brain isn't in gear.

I have put this into it's own thread as opposed to the "quick questions" purely because I think it's a rather broad topic, and could have multiple posts regarding it.

Please do not troll.

(Kinda curious if it's a level 2 chill or just a normal sense I see people concentrating alot when I break limbs.

Eihwaz - Hides the venom obviously.

Hugalaz - Damage (Anyone know the damage calulation on Hugalaz?)

So a while ago I made myself a semi-fancy envenoming script that autocycles my venoms according to what I want blah blah blah not the point. Basically a couple people got a hold of that and ended up using it. That's fine I don't really mind but the version they got a hold of was very early and very buggy and relied largely on other personal triggers and such that weren't included in the files they ended up with. I also didn't get to let them know how it works and I've heard stories of several knights who have struggled due to using my system without knowing how in its broken state.

I know it's something beginners struggle with, so I made a version that's self-contained and a lot simpler.
Hopefully this version is useful enough to help get people over that entry barrier to non-loldamage knight combat but also simple enough that they actually have to learn for themselves.

Things are highlighted so that:
Bloodroot = Red
Kelp = Green
Salve = Orange
Goldenseal/Focus = Yellow

Hope people find this useful! Happy stacking.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/tupkf4al0xstfgb/KSV.zip?dl=0

Hello, I'm looking to make a knight and I am woefully torn between Paladin and Infernal...Mainly, because I don't quite know how these classes blend chivalry with their variable skill. Any help? Thanks!

any suggestions or directions to point me? I've tried searching, but have only found suggestions for mudlet, which will not work for my available setup.

I was pointed to wundersys, but even that seems to be mudlet only.

Since I am in a combat-oriented house I am going to peruse ic info and a mentor, just wondering for the other half of the puzzle if it's documented or not.
