The answer is highly dependent on your goals, artefacts, where you bash, and talismans.

I don't care as much about experience as I do min-maxing damage. I get less experience overall, but more gold/talismans.

If you are going for Dragon, always get the experience.

If you want experience more than gold/talismans, choose experience.
