Is it possible to do well (or at least decent) without knowing how to code?

I'm sort of a newbie, I stumbled upon MUDs through the Genisis MUD Chrome extension a couple years ago. I'd always liked text adventure games and such, I enjoy figuring out commands and visualizing what I read and stuff like that. Once Genesis got kinda boring, I stumbled upon Achaea and it's been my go-to game ever since then. Even so I still consider myself a newbie because there's just too much I don't understand despite having played for so long. At this point, I'm curious as to how far I can actually get without knowing anything about coding or JavaScript etc. I have no experience with that stuff but as I'm starting to play more and more I'm kinda finding things like combat more confusing and somewhat tedious? Is that something I should try to learn, or can I get by without?
