Vote for Achaea

Come on people. I know it's easy to just ignore the in game message but we're fighting for our world right now. We need to step it up both in voting and nurturing new characters. This is more vital to the long term enjoyment of our world than anything else.

The competition owns the vote site, and IRE isn't allowed to incenticize voting. I do it from time to time, as do apparently a lot of people, because Acahea stays consistently #3 or #2.

  • Yes, the competition owns the sight. Nobody is allowed to incentivize voting. We all do it from time to time. I'd like everyone to do it every time; religiously. We were regularly number 2 behind only the owner of the site.

Yeah, and if we start to beat them, they will just add another stupid rule to keep their shitty game at the top.

    That said, voted.
  • IRE should make their own site to host on, obviously.

  • @Vadimuses We need a neutral voting site hosted by Mudlet ASAP <3
  • No excuses people.  Just vote.  Complaining = no help.  Voting = helps.
I use nexus gui.  I vote every time the vote button pops up.  It takes 5 seconds.
  • You are level 112.  You are more than a casual player.  You should be more than a casual voter.  Doesn't that logic make perfect sense?
  • Nope. You can enjoy a game while decrying its practices. Same reason people will play LOL or DOTA for thousands of hours then strongly advise others to never play it.
  • "Do as I say, not as I do?"
  • Sunk Cost Fallacy

    Like smoking cigarettes?
  • @Rangor: I am never going to religiously vote for a game with loot boxes.
Idealist?  What is the ideal that you would replace loot boxes with?

Maybe an artefact shop? Could be a good idea, devs can trial it this year and see how it goes.
  • The artefact cart does that already, but GOD is it expensive. Loot boxes, while an awful practice, at least allow the prices to not be too obscene I guess...

    But still.

As long as I can us  bound credits, loot boxes hurt a lot because most people want to deal in unbound, while my elite credits remain useless for most promos

  • I think that is an intended feature. Elite is meant to be cheap and improve your character. It isn't to be able to utilize to trade with others.

150 bound credits for $25 is $.17 per credit. Biggest credit package is $.275 per credit. Even if you got a 50% bonus elite is still a better deal (and that's ignoring the 25% XP bonus, 5 lessons a day, and 10% bonus to credit purchases).

  • That’s all well and good Cooper, but if everything you want costs several hundred $$$, then the price per credit becomes meaningless.

Penwize has cowardly forfeited the challenge to mortal combat issued by Atalkez.
  • "Cheap"....

I also can't bring myself to vote or recommend Achaea to people when we have loot boxes and such expensive items for sale, Elite or otherwise. I nearly bought 1000cr today to grab a Death Cape from someone and realised what a total waste it was of £200, promo attached or otherwise.

    (Party): Mezghar says, "Stop."
  • Realistically, that money will simply be wasted elsewhere. It comes down to how you prioritize discretionary spending.
  • Of course, but I realised I was looking at spending £200 purely because my loot boxes didn't open for the same items that some else's did. I'd  be fine with being able to buy talisman pieces from Delos (as artefacts, so not being able to be sold), or take the chance with 35cr caches and hope to collect items that way.

For someone to spend $0000's to collect one item and not get it shows how screwed up it is. While I have nothing buy praise for the recent changes around survival and such, talismans and loot boxes have ruined the game for me.

At least other games have some sort of item you can buy, that lets you replace the final piece of a talisman (or the other game equivalents, rather)... You want that in Achaea? Well you gotta wait for an auction to pop up, and even then expect to pay a fortune if you wanna win it. Whereas in Lusternia/Aetolia etc, it's the equivalent of like ~90cr at worst. Still have to deal with lootbox garbage, but it mitigates the frustration enormously.
Can't get those figurine legs? Well tough shit, wait 7 months for the next Races (i think?) promo to come around. Ditto for sureme pieces, or cape pieces, etc.

  • I was quite happy with the buy credits, turn them into gold, lessons in arties system. Knew what it cost, knew what I'd get. Now I feel like I'm doing it wrong when I buy credits because y'all are talking about 100% bonus loot boxes that may or may not be worth it. :p

  • Do you play Achaea more than you play any other MUD?  If so, it is your  #1 MUD.  Simple as that.  You aren't voting that RPGs are the #1 thing in life.  It's obviously just a game.

If you feel angry because you spend too much time playing and not enough time taking care of important things in your life, you lack self-discipline.  This isn't a negative reflection on Achaea.  It just further attests to how good Achaea is.  People don't get addicted to things because those things are not fun.  If an alcoholic prefers Guiness but hates the fact that he/she is an alcoholic, Guiness is still his/her #1 alcoholic beverage.

Does a sex addict claim that sex sucks, just because it is ruining his or her life?  Obviously not.  Sex is fun.  Adiction is not.

I take care of my personal business.  I have a 4.0 in college right now, paralegal technology major.  These are hard classes, very intense.  It requires self-discipline.

There are characters much more powerful than mine.  So what?  I spend only what I can afford on credits. >Self-discipline.

Other people (their characters) urge me to hurry up and get my House Tasks done.  So what?  I will get them done when I can and at a rate that doesn't make the game boring for me.  I have fun, because that's what I'm playing for.  Again: Self-discipline.
  • The loot box practice is illegal in certain countries. Including mine. I'll resume voting when IRE complies to legislation.

Can I ask which country? From what I've read, everyone still seems fairly wishy-washy about it all, particularly if you can't exchange the rewards back into real cash. I think as a consumer, legislation sounds good, but I've never felt particularly predatorized. Just educational curiosity.

Edit: tagged in case you don't read this thread often. @Siduri
  • In Quebec, Law 74 (voted in 2015, active 2018) makes online gambling sites illegal outside of those licensed and verified by local authorities (including open displaying of winning odds). The blocking of such sites on the territory is currently being debated in court, but will probably tag IRE games as inaccessible should the government win.

China, Japan and Belgium so far also have legislations against the practice currently, off the top of my head.

Where do I even start to unpack this.

    1. This is not a federal law, so it is not your country that has ruled this. It is your province, and any jurisdiction or enforcement of this would remain only in Quebec until the same law is voted through federally or in another province.

    2. Bill C-74 was ruled by the Supreme Court of Quebec, in May, unconstitutional and attempting to bypass and subvert rights enforced by the Federal Government. This was because the edits to the Quebec Consumer Protection Act that bill C-74 was attempting to make did not actually ban online gambling (Which they defined as "a website on which a person may make wagers and bets through an interactive mechanism") but instead full control would be given to the Espacejeux, a gambling site ran by the Quebec Government. Pretty clear that the intent is just to force all gambling to be done by the provincial government for provincial profit.

    3. The restrictions the bill was attempting to put on internet distributors(Block access to any and all sites deemed to be unauthorized by Loto-Quebec) also went against the Federal Telecommunications Act, which states that "A Canadian carrier shall not control the content or influence the meaning or purpose of telecommunications carried by it for the public."

    4. Lastly, it is unlikely that such a law would effect Achaea at all, even if the attempted appeal by the Attorney General of Quebec somehow goes through (and I guarantee it won't without further changes to federal laws first). None of the purchases made in Achaea allow for actual profit, you cannot sell anything you win through this "gambling" for cash as per the terms and conditions, which means it is doubtful that Loto-Quebec would care at all about restricting purchases, or even could.

(Going to stop there, cause I continued on this train of thought, we'd just get to the debatable area of "what is gambling" and what is defined as gambling by the law. Is buying a stocking here like playing roulette at a casino, or like buying a pokemon card pack at Walmart. Anyway.)
  • Jesus christ.

Guys, vote if you want to vote. Don't vote if you don't want to.

All this lecturing, preaching and moral grandstanding is just festering shitty attitudes. You are all like those people who stand outside the voting booths handing out flyers with directions on how to vote for their specific party. People going to the polls already know what side of the fence they sit on and your gloss brochures with tacky headshots aren't going to be anything more than irresponsible litter on the other side of the ballot.

Now that's done, point me in the direction of the obligatory sausage sizzle and/or bake sale.
