Shikudo

Jazzed about the fact that now we can have mini-Catarins standing beside mini-Lucaines now. wanted to get a rave in before the people bitching about a "cash grab" made it to forums.

How does it feel to folks as flavour so far?

I just sitting hear getting third party reports wondering how much the spec artie is going to cost

Edit:  this sounded snarky.  Didn't intend it to. Really can't Wait to buy that artie. I'm legit pumped. Major raves to @Nicola, @Makarios, and all the other people that have put in countless hours I'm sure to make this work. This totally makes up for my weaponry sucking. I probably won't fret about it for at least 8 hours
  • Looks really fun.
  • Lots of affliction potential it seems, true locking monks?

It has an aff route and a damage route.

Kinda messy-ish cause not a monk, so using script...

Kinda sucks that Monk essentially has to quad-trans now to get all their skills (if I'm understanding the news post correctly) but oh well.

"This kick may only be performed against a foe who lies prone. If that foe has half their health or less, your Kai-enhanced kick shall slay them instantly"

Zzzz because incinerate's a great mechanic. Sure it requires prone, but doesn't seem like that's gonna be difficult whatsoever for this spec to achieve.

Shikudo replaces Tekura, if you choose to take it. So you don't have to quadtrans. Tritrans is same as always. You just use Tekura.

Shikudo is supposed to be more difficult to use, so I think part of the reason it's gated behind Tekura is so newbies trying to get into combat for the first time don't pick the harder spec.

Seems similar-ish to how Lusternia monk works with their 'flowing' stances.
And I said if you want all the Monk skills, you have to quad-trans. The announce post saying, "so you do not get stuck in the Shikudo skill without being able to learn it." implies it starts out at Inept when you first switch to it... Compared to Weaponmastery where they're separated by specialisations that all share the same base skill.

This is actually weaker than most backbreaker finishers. Its the finisher I'm most concerned will be too weak given the limitations. We'll see!

I imagine his concern is in group fights, where incinerate is pretty strong. I'm not a fan of it, either, but beforehand it was limited to 1 rare class and required you to be in a sub-optimal metamorphosis.

Pretty much. Health Inspector has made Incin pretty brainless as well, the same will be said for this. Curious to see what its truelocking capabilities are like, though. If it'll even be possible/feasible.

1v1 / 2v2 guess we'll have to see what its damage/balance is like first.
  • Ah, I'm not too worried about crescent in teams. High unartied strength bbt is pretty close to 50% on most of our classes, and the form constraint will most likely mitigate team useage a fair bit.

That said, I'll not insinuate I'm against incinerate style mechanics - I'm mostly fine with them given acceptable limitations, but I don't invision this particular one being a significant game changer.

Never underestimate the ability of people to find ways to break your toys!
  • I'm curious about dispatch. I have no idea what Shikudo monks proning/breaking is like but it doesn't seem too hard to just break leg/prone -> break head/needle -> dispatch.

Of course I have no idea what balance times are like or anything...
  • Can we... have tekura and shikudo switching be tied to the Insignia of Mastery instead of creating a new Monk spec switching mastery? I think it would still be profitable and create a larger incentive for players to buy and upgrade the insignia of mastery... but also alleviate the existing concern that monks already require too many artefacts to reach the highest-tier of combat.
That is not an ordinary star, my son. That star is the tear of a warrior. A lost soul who has finished his battles somewhere on this planet. A pitiful soul who could not find his way to the lofty realm where the great spirit awaits us all.

I can only hope. Seeing someone do something unanticipated is great.

    (Tldr bring it)

Needle is a pretty long balance and dispatch requires they also stay prone (and the only way for Shikudo monks to prone/double break in one combo is a long way off of gaital, which is your only access to needle). It'll make sense once you play around with it a little, there are a fair few limitations in place that aren't immediately apparent.

We've not discussed an artefact to do this yet. I could see us going a few different ways with that if we do add that option, so we'll not be committing to anything there as of the moment.

  • Now that we have cool new monk stuff, we can start thinking about cool new bard stuff, right? Right, guys? Right? No but for real, Shikudo looks pretty awesome. Glad I was there for the event.

Artefact staffs asap please so I can then request you add it to morphing weapons. :D

    this looks really neat

Any idea if the staff is two handed like groves or single like magi? I'm assuming two handed, but you never know.  This is going to force me to put in more effort to weaponry management regardless. Still pumped to login when I can.

Also, if current spec isn't listed in gmcp like knights, can we get that please?
  • KryptonKrypton shi-Khurena
    It's 2-handed

Probably won't add it as a spec field to gmcp, as given the skill names are different you can pull that out of gmcp already if so inclined.

  • Maybe I'm missing it... but no attacks in shikudo hit denizens.

@Makarios Any chance we'll get a charstats field for Form, or have the Stance field update for Shikudo forms too?
    Huh. Neat.

Risingkick and thrust are both usable on denizens, just have to target a limb.
    Huh. Neat.
