Only if they actually need to snap. Those links, if they were the right links, would point to situations where the target is a newbie and thus doesn't know about antitheft, or has just logged in after being dormant and doesn't have any container to hold their gold in.

There are also people who get stolen from and aren't actually sure whether they had gold out or what was taken, since the message doesn't say what was stolen and not everyone checks their inventory frequently or is careful about putting gold away.

They don't always have to hypno. Sometimes they're just lifting random shit from your inventory or stealing your bashing gold because some people don't have trigs to pick up gold and put in their packs on the fly (or have it disabled because it's a group bash). Mostly sigils and stuff. There's also people who do shit like this:

Ah, fair enough. That being said, one of the first things you are told in the intro is to keep your gold in your pack...
