Let us not ask how you know that.
  • Research actually! I looked into all the profession you could be in 1 and 2 when I was playing them.
  • @Klendathu I graduated from comics to books...back to comics lol. I have an extensive collection of both

One thing you guys can do to help us attract players is to vote for us twice a day on Topmudsites, which is essentially a traffic exchange. We send traffic there, and hopefully get new traffic back.

We're typically #2 (the top voted mud there is the one owned by the guy that owns Topmudsites), but a couple games have been trying to kick us out of that spot recently.
    Borrows friends phone... Votes...

I was surprised when I came back and we were 2

Not saying they're related, but that was before the guy that owns Aardwolf bought Topmudsites. I don't know what changed, but almost immediately thereafter Aardwolf became #1. Could just be pure coincidence, could be he refined/changed some filter on votes (there are a bunch I know, to try and stop people from doing things like using TOR exit nodes to vote a lot) that changed things, I have no idea. I'm friendly with him though and doubt it was malicious if so. Could be, but he doesn't strike me as that kind of guy.

Not sure what that refers to. Was probably during my absence.

He made an Achaea admin style prompt that reminded people to vote, and also coded at least one voting script on z or cmud that players could use.

If there's one thing I've learnt from work, is that consumers flock to convenience. If you could put an obvious, easy to access "vote" button somewhere around the forums - you'd probably gain a lot more votes.

Edit : Like somewhere on the upper right of the forum banner.

How is that much different to the vote link at the top of the forums already there?
(D.M.A.): Cooper says, "Kyrra is either the most innocent person in the world, or the girl who uses the most innuendo seemingly unintentionally but really on purpose."

You need a site that tops of topmudsites itself.
  • And definitely not rely on TopMudSites to get your players, even though it works.
  • Honestly, a lot more people I see use The Mud Connector than TopMudSites.

Oh, odd! Didn't even notice that.

Not the rankings. The rankings for TMC are buried in their website and barely get used by comparison to TMS. Might still be worth us joining those rankings for people who want to vote on them. Just don't want to be spamming people to vote on multiple sites.

I found the game originally through banner ads on the old 8-Bit Theatre comic website.
    This was me too
  • Yeah, we had great success with ads on that site way back when. That was when clickthrough rates were literally 10x higher than today though, and most people who visited the site weren't running adblockers.

(Holy crap: Just went there for the first time in ages. The art style has certainly changed! nuklearpower.com )
  • Wow he got an actual artist now, haha.

That's where I learned about Achaea, too. Was probably as perfect as an ad could get for targeted demographics.
  • I was playing DragonRealms and was looking for a free game when aol started charging for it. Found another game (that changed names after some cult killed themselves and shared a similar name...my mom asked me if they were related lol). I then found Achaea.

  • I read some book about a kid playing a MUD, googled the term, and Achaea was the first result. I know its a long stretch, but expanding to other medias seems like it'd have a decent shot of succeeding. Books, comic books, tabletop RPGs, boardgames, etc. I have no idea how much of an investment any of this would take, and I imagine you've probably already though of and dismissed these ideas, but it seems like a good way to reach out to the type of people that would enjoy a MUD game.

Not doable for us I'm afraid, and super unlikely to drive many players here anyway. Consider that we have a MUD (Midkemia Online) that's literally the only official online game property out there for a book series that has sold over 15 million copies and it's still our least-popular MUD.
