Runewarden vs. Magi

ok after a while away I want to return to Achaea. However, I am having a little difficulty on my class selection. I have decided between Runewarden and Magi however I don't know much about the class changes and what the effect on PVP and Bashing. Could someone please explain to me which one is better in 1v1, group, and bashing. Also which one would be better if you aren't planning on gaining any arties unless its In-game at this time, I would appreciate it and thank you!
PS also if it helps any for runewarden I am really leaning sword and shield I feel as if I could be really strong defensively that way and not die as easy though 2 hand does interest me as well. In case that helps

I am by no means an expert on this.
However, if you're wanting to fight defensively, I would go with Magi. Runewarden -is- defensive, but unless you're going with 2-hander, I feel like they are forced into being the aggressor by the nature of their skills.
Bashing: I think Runie's have it easier.
1v1: Runewarden is probably better, (depending on spec)
Group: Runewarden is really good. Magi brings an interesting dynamic
Magi's just cooler now, though.5 -

Bashing depends on the runewarden specialisation, though I hear SnB bashing is incredible (and possibly much better than all the other specs)
Group combat magi is a bit.. annoying, 9/10 you'll just be focussed down first because of vibes
Aurora says, "Tharvis, why are you always breaking things?!"
Artemis says, "You are so high maintenance, Tharvis, gosh."

- (Eleusis): Ellodin says, "The Fissure of Echoes is Sarathai's happy place."
- With sharp, crackling tones, Kyrra tells you, "The ladies must love you immensely."
- (Eleusian Ranger Techs): Savira says, "Most of the hard stuff seem to have this built in code like: If adventurer_hitting_me = "Sarathai" then send("terminate and selfdestruct")."
- Makarios says, "Serve well and perish."
- Xaden says, "Xaden confirmed scrub 2017."5 -
Runewarden basically has four different classes built in via specialisations. If you find one specialisation boring you can hop to another for 100 lessons and see if you like it better. If you don't like the runelore/falcon dynamic though, you'll want magi instead.
Sword and Shield: Similar to old knight in kill method and affliction giving, but more variety/options.
2-hand: Arguably the most unique due to its focus on giving afflictions cured by applying health.
2-blunt: Unique as well in its ability to target separate limbs in its dual attack and has an actual instakill not based on damage.
2-cutting: Old knight but with a little more spice. Good at draining mana and locking off of that.
Magi is cool looking but I don't know how it works. Consult someone else.5 -
Magi has a few choices of how to kill people, Destroy - the instakill, Conflagrate spam - lots of damage everywhere, freezepound - frozen bodyparts everywhere!
Sure, you could still be boring and staffcast people to death in vibes (just don't have alot of vibes up while your golem is helping you) - Golem also has some utility in group combat with Impurity, but you probably won't be using it often outside of Retardation.
Magi is really mostly based around forcing your enemy on the defensive with applying salves in timeflux, freezing them and pummeling them OR proning them, setting them on fire, dehydrating them, setting them on fire some more, and destroying their mortal shell in a blaze of conflagrating glorious fireworks.
(also you can staffstrike combined with most golem abilities, is neat too)Aurora says, "Tharvis, why are you always breaking things?!"
Artemis says, "You are so high maintenance, Tharvis, gosh."
Tecton says, "It's still your fault, Tharvis."5
