Hit level 21, getting hindquarters repeatedly handed to me in a present box

Started playing a couple of days ago, got a decent understanding of what the game is about at this point (It's my first MUD) and had absolutely no trouble questing in Minia (my class is Jester)
However, now that I'm not allowed to bop stuff there anymore, I am kind of questioning wheter or not I'm not doing everything horribly wrong.
So far, my combat "strategy" is pretty much just

SLIPPERINESS
BOP <Target>
BOP <Target>
BOP <Target>
BOP <Target>
BOP <Target>
BOP <Target>
BOP <Target>

ACROBATICS if I'm fighting anything I don't wanna be hit by an awful lot.
Now, this worked like a charm against pretty much everything so far and I didn't even have to SIP HEALTH much thus far, but now I have to do so almost 5 times a fight, hunting in places like Great Rock or Actar Valley.

My Avoidance is on Skilled and my Pranks is on Fabled, I'm using Scalemail armor, but the goats in Actar Valley still take like half my health per hit.

What AM I supposed to be doing?

The newbie areas are ridiculously easy.

In the real game, it is expected that you will take a sip of health on every single 'health sip balance' that you are able to while bashing.

Your description of having to sip '5 times per fight' is appropriate.  You're not doing anything wrong.

I highly suggest getting used to using your supplies, particularly health vials readily. Set up your serverside curing via HELP CURING.

You do not need to use acrobatics versus non-playable characters. It does not do anything. It is a PvP abillity.

You mistakenly put lessons in avoidance when you should not have. Avoidance is a skill meant to be learned later when your class skills are already maxed out.

If you are wearing scalemail armour, sipping health on every sip balance, and bopping everytime you have balance, then you are doing everything you need to be doing.

    Good luck.

Edit: Also, choose con spec for your race as Jester.

  • What Santar said, start stocking health vials and curatives. Soon things you hunt will break limbs and afflict you. Always carry a vial of immunity for the voyria venom too.

Well, thanks for the quick answer. It's probably about as encouraging as it is discouraging. Time to bop more goats and develop a crippling health tonic addiction.
Wait till you get past 80, then wait until you hit 99. That is discouraging hehe.

I'm sure 108 is just horrific.

  • Max pranks, stock up on health vials, if you are really struggling health-wise then potash/moss is good too (potash tends to be cheaper and @Shianne is a wonderful supplier). Don't forget about racial specialisation and traits as well - spec'ing for constitution can help a lot with bashing if that's your primary interest.
  • Also I don't know how much of a difference a shield makes for jesters (I know jesters use banded) but hit me up and I'll forge you one if you need one!
  • If you're part of a House or City you might be able to find someone else to hunt with. Should take a small percent of the burden off you.
  • Gotta love Sun-Bro...
