How did they have the game set up back then? I saw something about in either the IRE forums or the older Achaean forums, can't remember, but it was about the new change (well, new back then), and it said something about super fast Rajamalan and Grook with 'heads swollen with intelligence'. That what you mean?

Rajamala used to have lvl 2 faster balance recovery(Mhun had lvl 1 faster balance recovery too during that time). Grook used to have faster equilibrium recovery way before that before it was taken out due probably to it stacking with Aldar Diadem.

Now, back when some other races like Troll had balance recovery penalties, if you were a knight and wanted to actually be combat-worthy(btw, speed is a deciding factor for PVPing knights), you'd have to pick Rajamala or you'll get pounded to the ground. So you want to roleplay as a Troll race while being top-tier in combat? Nope. It's one or the other.

  • Grook not only had faster equilibrium recovery (before the quick-witted trait, so it was the only race with that available) but also had the highest intelligence (by quite a margin, I think) of all of the races. Since there were no racial specialisations at the time, race - and the odd class ability - was the only factor on your stats, other than artefacts; if you were a class like Magi Grook was about the only option worth picking if you didn't want to be massively hindered.
  • It's probably going to be an Elf race so people who are Tsol'aa don't have to be mutilated freaks.

I always thought that pre-trait races should have had fast EQ on tsol'aa with grook having the high int, would have been neat.

Rajamala had faster balance recovery, which as you can imagine made it the race TO-BE if you used weapons at all. No Exceptions.
And Grooks had drastically higher intelligence, I can't remember if it was 14 or 15, but mathematically, that was the only OTHER race to be if you used spells and equilibrium more than weapons and balance.

So essentially the only race played were Rajamala and Grook, and nearly none for any kind of roleplaying reason. Claiming that you picked Catgirl Ninja or Fishman Apostate/Occultist (e.g. Lovecraft reference) because it interested you would be met with an eye-roll and a "Yeah Right"

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't it just accepted that it's common practice for Tsol'aa to crush their ear cartilage to points like the Mayans tried to slope their foreheads?
While Tsol'aa aren't elves, but people will probably treat them as such as long as they are an "Ancient race of forest-dwellers" having odd beauty standards people commonly warp and mutilate their bodies to meet them, is a heck of a lot flavorful than being innately born that way.
And to be frank, crushed and sliced ears is a heck of a lot healthier than the medieval "Corset Ribcage"
  • Grook was 17 base int + fast EQ.

  • I would really, really love it to be Tritons.. HOWEVER I would be massively disappointed as well that tritons would be a common sight and that people I would consider fucking wankers would become tritons and start worshipping Vastar and be friendly with grooks etc. Basically just ruining the race and trashing the rich and deeply ingrained warrior/political heritage canon  Neareos worked so many years to build.

So just Incase it is Tritons, please no :(

I have never heard any Tsol'aa mention ear mutilation as a form of religious belief or ceremony. This must be Proteus' fault, maybe he had pointy elf ears.

Nonono. That's not what I meant. The Tsol'aa aren't supposed to have pointy ears, yet a lot of people describe themselves with them because they mistake them for elves. I was just saying that I thought the current standing handwave for this was that it's just a beauty trend since players/characters seem to find them desirable.

But we're getting way off topic, and I appologize for derailing the thread into this and old Achaea stats, let's get back to Minotaur.

Does anyone know how effective Trample would be at early levels? Especially considering the limbbreaker trait?

Some player Tsol'aa perhaps. Certainly none of the denizen Tsol'aa.

We could always have racial lynchings. Some atavian punk looks at a triton newbie in the wrong way, we take him out back, beat him with crowbars and tie him naked and de-feathered to a tree. >_> Achaea doesn't have nearly enough racial extremists. Sorry, too soon? :(

  • No, no I mean Triton kind betraying triton canon. Maybe we could mutilate the heretics tritons so they can no longer return to the seas and doomed to live as land walkers... Or cut their webs so they can't swim as fast. Denizen tritons should hate player tritons with a passion!

Nit to mention the clumsy rp for changing into a race already entrenched for centuries seeing landwalkwrs as lower species. Cleanest way would be a entirely new race or a least one that is friendly to players.

If you bring racism into Achaea things can get ugly.

Eh... no different than mhuns who don't give a damn about moghedu or atavians who'll gladly hunt Arcadia without a care in the world. Also hard to care if it's not a race you started as, but only just reincarnated into.
What doesn't kill you gives you exp.

I, don't think that's racism. I mean there are Mhun Mhaldorians I'm sure and they play the whole we become stronger from being a slave thing sometimes, that I have seen anyway. Real racism is.....very very different.
  • @Kayeil : Eh, I guess you have a point. I would cry that playing a Mhun that hates Moghedu due to their superstition about her appearance meaning an omen for bad luck and letting the slavers take her away without a fight because of it is because there is years of rp to back it up. But the same argument can be made for a few adventurers and the triton race.

So point conceded: Depending on RP anything can be explained away.
  • I really just wish races had more identity to them, rather than a vague overview and a few historical plots. I feel like it would make things much more interesting, especially to the alien races which have almost nothing at all.

I feel like there is a huge swath of historical traditions, sayings, and rituals that are non existent, as well as any kind of definition between races besides stat points.

Replies the scorpion: "It's my nature..."
  • @Aepas that'd be pretty interesting.

What Aepas said. It would be really cool if, at some point in the distant future, a member of the garden could sit down with some of the more established racial groups and kind of hammer out/retcon some more lore for each of the races.

    Pipe dreams, but still.

I may or may not be writing out some detailed Rajamalan history. And saving up my hard earned money for a new Rajamala clan. How far I decide to go with it remains to be seen, but if anyone is interested in seeing what I got, let me know!

Just don't invite people into that clan that see rajas as cute little kitty cats that meow a lot and rub up against anything that pets them.
Isn't this like 80% of Rajas?
  • It is, that's why you have to be more exclusive.
  • Only way for races to be really hard-lined is to make the reincarnation gem not allow you to change race at all but change stats to any of the available stats of all races, yet you stay the race you selected upon trial of rebirth, otherwise anyone can be anything with any RP.

Hence why I'll be buying a new clan if I do anything at all! Rajamalans are savage bloodthirsty beasts with a flexible, violent hierarchy (for those subtypes with large tribes at least). We're not all savage anymore on Sapience, but our roots are anything but fluffy cute.

The didn't help "impress the Nevaharr into service" with purring and snuggles.

Well hey, I fit the bill. The closest I've been to "snuggly" was nearly going full yandere on incident while trying to track the guy down. Let me know if/when you get that done.

Has anyone done any research or just looking around/bashing the Minotaur in game? Simply the way they attack could probably help out with racial trait abilities if they do anything special.
