New race?!?!? Maybe? Is it even possible???

So, I recently came from BatMud, 'cause its getting dead over there. I mean, older players going dormant, and newer players rage quitting when they get killed by a rabbit or something. So, while I played BatMUD for like..... 2 years, maybe? I was a Minotaur that entire time, and I easily fell in love. The entire RP of being a giant, semi-primitive bull-dude that is incredibly stubborn and likes to solve things with his sword, but mostly his fists, was awesome. (That was how my character was, anyway.) So, a friend brought me to Achaea, which is pretty good. I like how the armour and weapons don't need to be upgraded as you level (that was annoying) but the 'bash till you drop, then go some more to get to Dragon' is kinda boring. I've talked with denizens, and mostly quests are 'hey, you, go here, give this to that person, kill that, bring me this and you get that' is really the same as the bash thing. Though, yea, Honours quests are cool and sometimes require you to go through lore. Anyway, off topic.

So, being a Minotaur was really fun. I was a bit disappointed when I found that there were none, so I went with the next best thing.... Satyr!!! Heh. Anywho, I was wondering if we could get a new race? I was thinking it could be like the Xoran circumstances, coming from possibly a different planet, and no one knew, or like Grooks, the experimentation thing. Either one could add some cool RP, and I love RP. For Xoran, everyone online could see like, or hear, some sort of giant swirling purple thing or a giant boom, and talk to everyone, try to get a group of warriors to investigate, and end up being killed by cosmic rays from the aftermath (I dunno). Then a chosen hero would get a riddle from the Divines, or group of heroes,  and they solve it and find the whole new race, and get the chance to become the first minotaurs. Then the lore would go on from there.

Now, each race has a kinda set parameters. Like Trolls usually being 7+ feet, or Satyrs with goat legs and horns (that will get fun), and all. For Minotaur, I'm guessing they could be a bit like Trolls, 7+ feet, but probably bigger, as Trolls are slender. They would be bulky, which, going into stats, unspecialised would have low Dex., high Str. and semi-high Con., semi-low Int. (who doesn't love a Magi Minotaur? Awesomesauce....) So, my ideas for stats are more like:
(And this going off my thinking total stats are 48 unspecialised and 49 specialised, please do change it if my thinking is off)

Minotaur
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Specialisation         Strength       Dexterity        Constitution         Intelligence
Unspecialised                   13                  11                         13                         11

Champion                        15                  11                        13                         10        (-1 Int. +2 Str.)

Watcher                           12                   13                        13                         11       (-1 Str. +2 Dex)

Guard                              14                   11                        14                         10       (-1 Int. +1 Str. +1 Con.)

Ritualist                           12                    11                        12                         13       (-1 Str. +2 Int.)

Again, thats going off my theory. I only looked at a few race stats and that is what I came up with.

Now, the low Dex. all around except for Watcher would be the bulky thing. Int. would be because the Minotaur stereotype thing. To me, at least, it makes sense.

Now, for the appearance parameters.

With Minotaur, you have 4 ways to do this.

1) Humanoid Bull. Full body fur, horns, everything like a bull. Just shaped like a man (except the snout. Stays like a bull.)

2) Part human, most bull. Legs and head of a bull, upperbody of a person.

3) Weird bull-man thing. Human head, everything else full-bull. (Now that would look funny.)

4) Man-bull thing. Bull head, everthing else full-man.

Choosing one of these, I like choice 1. That would look awesome, like a Rajamala..... But a bull. That would be perf.

That is basically it for me. All I can think of. If I'm missing any elements, tell me, I could think of some.

P.S. That hero group thing could include me...... I wanna be Minotaur. XD

Edit: I'm waiting to get a good discussion before I post an IDEA in-game, to see if it is actually possible and what other people think.

Oh, meh, I totally forgot! Racial emotes, languages, and Race Traits!

Racial emotes could be like, 2.

    1) A sort of snort and stamp, like an actual bull. For when they get nervous, angry, etc.
    2) A really cool moo. No joke. Like, when they have bull fighting, the bulls make a deep bellowing moo thing? Yes! Then a chest pound.

    Language: Tauros, easy, hehehe.

    Racial Traits:
1)They should have their own attack, like Satyr. Could be something do with the horns, maybe a headdown-start rushing thing. Skewering people with horns, oh my, yes! Called a Rush, or Bullrush. I dunno.
    2) Another corpse eating race, like Rajamala? Or something to do with their size..... Maybe be able to block doors, or automatically can't be pulled against their will. Like mass salve, but without the salve.

There is already a minotaur village: Hriddan Settlement.

And there are also minotaurs in Bella's Keep.
  • MelodieMelodie Port Saint Lucie, Florida
Also some minotaurs in Lupine Hunting Grounds.

  • Would lower the dex by 1 point again myself
  • All for new races, but they should remain 13/12/12/11 or 12/12/12/12, with each specialisation giving +2/-1.
  • Along with what Avto said about the base stats, the specialisations are the same for every race; they're always +2 str/-1 int, +2 int/-1 str, +2 con/-1 dex, and +2 dex/-1 con.

    Those are centaurs in LHG.
What doesn't kill you gives you exp.

  • Don't forget the taryens in Quartz.

    @Sarapis

    Tritons?!

  • I think this is an interesting idea. I've never seen a minotaur in Achaea (that doesn't mean they may not be there already) Although if they're not and say @Sarapis approves the idea, it opens up for an interesting back story and roleplay as to where they came from, how they got here, and so forth.

One thing that I've personally have always wanted to see is a daemonic kind of race, although this is something that would be kind of like a half-bred. I suppose playing in Mhaldor for ages has rubbed off.

  • If the next available race is not Vertani, I'm going to be thoroughly disappointed.
  • If races got added, it would be cool if they were things that are already around the world. Buckawns would be a fun dex race like mhun I feel. Aeraithians could also be fairly nifty. Minotaur as mentioned above.

Ok... I already said there are minotaurs in Achaea, AND where the find them..

Well, I didn't know about that, meh. Seems I need to get out more, hehehe. As for the stats base with the +2 Str/-1 Int. and all, I so did not see that. xD I feel a bit stupid now, smh.

Sweeet, that seems cool. Can't wait. Still though, Satyr is a cool race as it is. Though, I have a question to ask...... Are the Minotaurs mentioned above hostile to everyone? I want to go see and if I can find more lore about them!
  • The Hriddan aren't hostile. If you venture up there, just avoid the ice demons in the northwestern/western part.
  • I'm going to have to say no.
Not to the Minotaurs, I love me some bovine-people, they're literally my favorite race in any fantasy works.
but that's a big no to the Stat's and Specializations.

Stat's and specs are pretty global with a 13, two 12's, and an 11 amongst the stats to enable them to be relatively good in all classes, with Specializations of +2 to (str, con, dex, int) and -1 to (Int,con, dex, str) respectively.
That "Minotaur Guard" you have there is just asking for heading towards a situation like we had along time ago with Grook Casters and Rajamala everything else, by breaking these even slightly. The last thing I want is for the days to come back where playing your race for RP reasons was looked down upon, or to even head that direction slightly.

Personally I'd make them a Constitution 13 Intelligence 11 race because we have 3 for Str and only 2 for Con. Justify it that their strength isn't as much as satyr or trolls because of having to carry their own weight, and keep specs as normal. 14/12/13/10 for a strength spec looks well enough as is considering class powers that benefit strength and Constitution.

However I am glad that you gave some thought to the racial abilities, since it shows you aren't wholly concerned with the Stats end of it, since most of the fluff and feel comes from the abilities:
In my opinon, I'd like a GORE, that you could impale them while standing with, but it stunned you (or some similar drawback) for the duration that you had them impaled. Incompatible with things like bladetwist, obviously. But mechanically it'd be a pretty cool thing to see for the purpose of teamwork or causing some empty hang-time for your independent cooldown abilities to get back.
Or possibly Trample, to mirror your size and weight, and be useful for those few classes like Blademasters that aren't suggested to be on mounts. I'm not familiar with riding, so I'm not sure if this would be overpowered, but it's random chance that'd scale with your level, and it'd make Limbcrusher a decent option for a Major Trait (reduces your own natural avoidance/dodging). Level 20 for a four limb break though in a 1v1 would be pretty dang strong so feel more than free to slap me for suggesting this if it's as bad as I think it might be.
It would be very ironic if I was just chewing out someone for minor stat differences and then suggested utterly stupid racial abilities, and I don't mean to be a hypocrite.

I'm kind of meh about the minotaur idea because at least one other IRE game pretty much has that race already. Would prefer something uniquely Achaean.
What doesn't kill you gives you exp.

  • I'd go Minotaur Champion as a Runie in a heartbeat.

    15 base strength? Hell yeah.

    13 base con? Hell yeah.

I don't play the other IRE games so I'm all for it. Minotaurs would be so epic to play, all the hooves and horns without the testosterone only issues of satyrs.

@Sarapis if it's a vampire race then all those who hold the name Van Helsing have free pk rites on everyone of that race right?

    Vampire race plz.

  • Sorry, I had Tovar suicide 'cause Runewarden wasn't me, and I wanted to keep my Race Reincarnation but anyway! (Still a Satyr......)

How did they have the game set up back then? I saw something about in either the IRE forums or the older Achaean forums, can't remember, but it was about the new change (well, new back then), and it said something about super fast Rajamalan and Grook with 'heads swollen with intelligence'. That what you mean?

Heh, I was afraid I did something wrong with the stats. Well, as I played Runie for awhile, I saw that the 14/12/13/10 does sound a little OP, especially if you have some good arties. I had to think about which I wanted, Str. or Con. better, because Dex. was pretty useless, except for when I was Serpent. Int. isn't used at all for runies.

And the racial ability was cool. I just got 'Impale' on Jarnok, so it would make more sense if they were stunned also when they did that.
