I absolutely love driving through Chicago, and absolutely hate driving through any part of Illinois that isn't Chicago or thereabouts.
Tree... tree... plain... oh good, St. Louis.
Agreed. The rest is either cornfields, beanfields, or pissant towns of a couple thousand Republicans that whore out a single piece of historical significance. I used to live in the capital and the Lincoln sites are so forcefed you actually start praising John Wilkes Booth.

Moving to Chicago was the best choice I ever made. I love riding my motorcycle down LSD at night, the vast blackness of Lake Michigan on one side, the towering, sparkling pillars of human accomplishment on the other.
Agreed. I've timed a couple of trips so that I pass the bulk of the cities in the middle of the night precisely for that reason.

I hate driving through STL, and most of the suburbs have those annoying speed bumps/gates, but it's been growing on me lately. I visit my cousins there a lot more now and they have some really amazing museums, even if the public transit sucks.
Haha, the first time I drove through STL I almost got nailed by a (drunk/crazy) driver. It was 2am on a Saturday night, and I was naive.
Still not as bad for me as KCK, though. Driving through Kansas City actually got me lost in the middle of the city. That wasn't fun.

Plus, just about every Illinoisan that didn't grow up in Chicago is a Cardinals/Rams fan anyways.

That's almost what it's like driving through some of the large rural towns over here like Bendigo, Ballarat or Dubbo. Tree...tree...plain...kangaroo...dead kangaroo....
I always figured it'd be more like.
Tree...tree...mountain...wallaby...post-apocalyptic highway bandits...future Hollywood star...kangroo...dead kangroo...
Tree, tree, mountain, wallaby, Thunderdome, drop bear.
