I've never played a monk before, and am thinking of trying one out... but I would like to know if this would work:

A monk who doesn't use Tekura, but wields a hammer.

Would that just defeat the purpose of a monk, or is there a way to make it work?

Can't punch while wielding a weapon, defeats the purpose of an unarmed combatant. You'd have the defs of Kaido but you'd have to go straight weaponry. You'd also have to go pure damage with the hammer since it can't use venoms, and you'd probably never get any kills because you could only hurt one limb at a time and you'd not be able to use tekura properly at all.
Gibbi
Thanks Boz. I forgot about the venom thing, but I WAS considering eschewing tekura all together, but if tekura is needed for an effective monk, then I'll ignore the hammer.

I've already got one non-combat character, don't need another.

Rynn
Why not just make a character that carries around a warhammer at all times, only putting it up to really lay the smackdown on someone? Then, when my idea behead variants idea gets implemented (*hum*) you can just find ways to setup for a warhammer behead.

Besides, I'd consider it bad RP for a monk to not use Tekura. Mind (Telepathy), Spirit (Kaido), and Body (Tekura) are the main ideals of the monk, and every city recognizes that.
Gibbi
I was thinking of making a Bang Shishigami kinda character (Too much Blazblue >.<) except with a giant hammer instead of a nail.

Is there a way I can 'sheathe' just for asthetics, or do I have to drop the warhammer before every fight?
Sena
Warhammers can be sheathed in... either baldrics or beltloops, I don't remember. Probably baldrics.
Gibbi
Awesome... I may actually do this!

What client would work best for a human monk? I use flash for my other characters, but they're either noncombat or utterly-fail-at-combat-but-for-rp-and-lolz

...and I haven't heard any good things about flash's combat potential.
Sena
The two most popular clients, aside from Nexus and the flash client, are zMUD and MUSHclient. zMUD is simpler and easier to learn, but it's also slower and less powerful. MUSHclient is faster and more powerful, but it's also much more complex and will probably take a bit longer to learn. MUSHclient is also free, zMUD isn't.
Boz
I run Nexus...Getting good with it too..or at least, I'm better than I used to be! Pretty good, IMO. If you use flash, you'll love Nexus because it's a step up and less complex.
Gibbi
Yahknow... I may actually stick with flash for now. I can't afford to be dumping money into zmud, and my brain doesn't work right for MUSH... well, I never tried, but I'd rather avoid complecated systems until I finish this semester of school. smile.gif

Thanks for the advice, though! I'll check out mush when I've got more patience to learn!
Kallorn
If you're looking for a client to fight with, go MUSH. It's free, as Sena said, so you can't really go wrong. If you ask IC, we can invite you to the clan. With folks like Soludra and Trevize, you wont be left in the dark on any question... They're both awesome when it comes to MUSH.

((I just realised this thread died days ago. My bad))

In that case, pray that a giant nail will be implemented as a weapon, where you can impale someone with it while you rain blows down on their helpless body.

EDIT: Just read Kallorn's reply. -facepalm self-

That is a large nail.
Sena
It doesn't seem like a very effective weapon.

It would be valid Achaean 'Artisinal/Bardic' with him wielding a giant war hammer, and pounding as well.

The gigantic nail however, would not be.
Better put a tattoo, or a rune on it. THAT makes it Achaean!
