Full Version: Roleplaying "a Fresh Start"?

I've been away for a long time and upon logging in within 15 minutes I got killed and my head chopped off. I barely even remember the commands, much less how to heal myself. I'd like to continue playing with the character I have (due to artifacts and level), yet would like to drop the previous baggage. Do you have suggestions on how to eloquently role play my way out of previous class changes and enemies? I have to pay the fines or whatever may be required to clear "my name".

I can't just blink my eyes and have it all go away (after paying fines), can I? I mean, we are all real people behind the characters, surely it can be understood? Just unsure how to start off on a firm foundation and not have whatever it was in my past hanging over me, most of which I have no idea about what.

Suggestions?

Killed? By whom, and why? No one could possibly have any cause on you.

Edit: about unenemying I can't help you, since I suck at creating meaningful contacts in game. I just pay the fine, whatever it is... your terms should have expired by now.
Quoren
I highly suspect he logged on in a raid.

I don't think so. No one was raiding when he was killed, anywhere, that I saw.

I'd rather leave in-game specifics in-game. I assume it's cause I'm an enemy of a house or city, I forgot PK rules. Got bigger problems right now though (as long as I don't go below level 80).

Think I may just pay the fines and move on, forgetting what happened.

The only thing I can't wipe is this: "the arms of Drauka: Gules, a baalzadeen passant reguardant dexter Or within an orle of the second." On my signet ring, hah. Oh well. A reminder of my past.

I'll just have to deal with things. Maybe I can go lame and just play up a mind-wipe, being responsible and resolving debts and moving on.

First of all, Welcome back.

Second of all with a bit of effort you can lead your character where ever you want. Talk to you current House leader/a secretary, and city leader and see if something can be worked out. After paying fines no one really seems to carry animosity towards another character so it seems. When Tahquil paid off her fines characters she didn't know congratulated her and some attempted to hug her. The only problem she has had was with people she had a personal conflict with, but those are just icy politeness now.

So yes, it is quite simple to start again and sometimes people will ask about your past. It's up to you if you want to bring it up or not.

Good luck.

Here's where I'm at now in thinking of roleplay story moving forward.

(first person = character)

1) Am a Troll for now. Not smart at all, see the world in simple terms yet can read and remember information pretty well.
2) Woke up in the forest, without clothes. the forest saved my life somehow and I decided to devote my life to protecting it back.
3) Interested in intellectual studies of theology and philosophy (ie, priest mold) with regard to the world around me. This is mainly focused on the forest and lessons learned from it.
4) Since I "woke up" with a reincarnation dagger in my hands, I may end up using it someday but being a Troll, I don't understand how. Just know it's important, so keeping it as one of my most priced possessions (only had so much on me when I woke up in the forest).

Not super interested in joining a city or house especially, yet open to it and inquiring in a few places.
Things I'd like to focus more on:

1) How Lord Babel and Chaos can relate to the forest, hope to work this out more cleanly with others in-game. As Flair said in another thread, all things in the forest have an end. A forest is full of examples of start and end. Maybe can be worked so that I can understand Chaos better as a reason why things die and what the future of everything else... I need to freshen up on Chaos. Something about enjoying the forest while I am here, yet peace in emptiness of Chaos is where everything is headed, etc.
2) Rediscovered two homes I own in Ashtan and Mhaldor, one with a nice library [it exists for reals] (here I discovered some details of my past, like knowing Flair in the past and researching Chaos at one time).
3) Eventually have some sort of ritual where I use the reincarnation dagger to change my race, hopefully related to me perceiving the world in a new way (the next step in whatever path I take).
4) Maybe consider also Neraeos. I like this in the help file: "He grew into a scholar, a philosopher and a warrior." - A god that is more than just destroy and "this is mine, gimme" is nice.

Anywho, that's where my head's at now. What do you think?

The Oblivion/Nature thing is going to be hard, but I also think rewarding. The logical leap is there to be made, but you'll probably be ridiculed by other nature lovers etc for awhile. Will take some slick RP, but sounds like something fun to me. So good luck. I like where you're going so far and will be in contact with you in game soon.
Eurulis
Eh. I'm sure Chaos and Nature working together stuff could have worked out with Babel, but some of his first words as I remember them were generally along the lines of "I will crush Creation under my heel and sic the Void on it!", and with Gloirin's terrible defense of them, it seems a bit more likely that the Babelites are covering up a lot of stuff about their relationship to Nature, from this point of view, especially how they generally find ways to harm Nature in indirect and direct ways.

Oh, a druid in the Babelites can definately be done, but it'd be treading a pretty thin line. On one hand, you can definately say that he is indeed helping Nature by helping it die. But be prepared to be rejected by the forestal community at large, because of Babel's beginning actions (And some of His later ones). This is probably the best way. On the other, you could probably also claim that Chaos is an intimate part of Nature and so on and so on, but everyone is tired of that particular point of view. It's a solid platform to work from, though. It would generally be hard to work as a forestal in the Babelites, but depending on what you like to play, it could be rewarding.

Edit: Oh, and the whole fact that druids summon spirits is a pretty decent factor, too, if you're looking at the Spiritwalkers. When I brought a few of them to the gates and told them to release the spirits bound in them, they refused to touch it, calling anything that was in past the gates doomed or a twisted ancient evil. That was pretty cool, and can set precident for you refusing to morph in the Babelite Temple, if you really wish to go all out.

Edit2: Also, if you're going along the line of "Everything has an end" for a reason for Chaos, it could both work well and not work out at all. Remember that Thoth's Order is against Babel, and you can probably assume Thoth is as well. So really, one of two things that can happen there.

Edit3: Ok, I'll shut up now.
Drauka
Hrm, I don't know much about the existing forest classes/houses and Oakstone history. For some reason, that blind sided me. It is probably the severe lack of sleep.

I'd rather get enjoyment out of the game, even if it's conflict than conform and get in line. I'd like to stick my guns and make something work that is enjoyable to me (and maybe others).

What I don't want is ignorance of lore/history to get in the way.

If push comes to shove, I can always jump off of being a Druid. I'm not tied to a class really, I'm just tied to getting enjoyment out of the game without looking like a "dolt".
Eurulis
If you have fun with it, and the people you are interacting with are having fun with it, it doesn't really matter. Just expect pretty heavy resistance from the forestal community if you plan on doing Babelite stuff. Especially if you're gonna help with stuff like causing unnatural tremors or lighting places on fire with Mordanyconus or something like that.
Imyrr
It's Babelonian goddamnit. Willful ignorance in or out of game is detestable.
Eurulis
Babelite sounds better. Babelonian just sounds like "They'll babel on and on and on", while Babelite says "They'll summon a demon to bite your head off. "

All names aside, just take it slow and you'll do fine, Drauka.
Imyrr
Pah, Babelite is a term coined by those who've had no part in the creation of the Revolutionaries and who refuse to accept that it's the official term.

I shall ensure to put emphasis on the "Ite" then!

Names aside, back to the RP. It would take a particularly "touched" druid to pull this off. But, saying that all things must eventually end (Flair, who is pretty radical of course even counts the Divine in this) is natural is a pretty cool perspective I think. You'd just be like some radical forestal. Then again, this is your RP so do whatever you think is fun. That's the point of the whole thing afterall.
Quoren
Babel(ite|onian) (from here on out I will refer to this as "Babelish" and be done with it) druid is a possible character path, yes. However, much like other "twisted" or "reverse" paths of rp, it is very difficult to do and is easy to get terribly, terribly wrong. Tread with caution, and please please please please please don't become like the (slowly dwindling) group of people who are always like "CHAOS AND NATURE R FRINDZ 4 EVA." Be insane; Chaos does that. Crazy druids are awesome. See: Sparrow's Rest.

Also, good luck.
Drauka
Doh, seems I somehow made an item from my library unreadable, must have been when I was an Occultist.

Most books in my library are readable though. So glad I invested in a library.

Encipher, get another occultist to decipher it for you.

I'm not sure it would be "safe" to share this information, may create problems for me with other Occultists. I forgot about that ability, thanks.
Will have to find an Occultist I can trust.

This looks like a really neat idea but you have to be very careful how you tread it. It's been said before, but I'll emphasize: You must be prepared to play the outcast from Nature. Eleusis, the Druids, and most non-Babelonians are going to tell you you're foolish, and you have to live with that. Hell, I'd be prepared to be at odds with some of the Babelonians, themselves, since I bet some of the things they do will harm nature in ways a Druid wouldn't want.

Bottom line, if you want to play a unique character, remember that you can't conform to either side, completely. You always have to play the middle. Good luck, though.

P.S. In the Babelonian/Babelite argument, I call them how they want to be called. It's their culture, religion, and history, and I respect that. They could start calling themselves the Babelfish, and I'd think they were retarded, but I'd call them by name because it's their choice.

Drauka
Since last night, I've been thinking of moving to an Occultist and focusing on PK.

Still going to sit on it a bit though. A Druid does have some awesome abilities... and I already traded in my Ceylonese ring (due to sip bonus of Concoctions). I don't want to be at odds with Oakstone (what point is it to have concoctions if I can't use them and am an enemy to the forest).

Only thing is if I get into PK, an Occultist Troll would be pretty difficult to play successfully.

Something to mull over for the weekend. It will cost real money to tri-trans again and I don't want to trade in any other artifacts. Also karma hunting stinks, making pacts, and inscribing all those cards is tedious.

Suppose there are bigger woes in the world wink.gif

Made the leap back to Occultist. I'll stick here for a while wink.gif

Haha, it's just easier this way. I keep coming back to Occultist, 3rd time's the charm. Your Babel work was a huge factor, though, as is continuing the Revolutionaries studies and PK.

As for how to reconcile your past, I found that playing a rogue for a long time helped lessen the "fence hopping" mentality that many people have. Trying to play the good guy after killing a crapload of people and infernoing (as a deterrent to keep myself from playing during college) really was not enjoyable or feasible for me, and it was a fairly easy transition to go from taking the Dawnstrider's distate of all things Church to targetting Church members (in addition to Mhaldor... as sort of a "if you're not going to fight them, you will provide me the means!"), to gradually slipping away from zeal as the only people I ever encountered anymore were Mhaldorians and rogues. I guess that's the simplified version of it, but I hope whatever you've done allows you to take on more sociable endeavours more quickly than the route I took.
