Full Version: City Symbol

This idea kind of morphed into being in the Tinkerer's Toolset artifact idea, the first suggestion of the idea can be seen starting from the link below
http://forums.achaea.com/index.php?showtopic=38665&st=15
and it continues onto the next pages. Now, the thread was closed and the orginal idea was denied, but the new morphed idea wasn't, so I thought we could create a thread here for it and discuss and refine it more.

Before the thread was closed what we ended up with was the following: Each city has a symbol, when the city is being raided, someone would gather said symbol and begin a ritual, during which they cannot do anything and after a given time period would result in some sort of continent wide display, show the some symbol of the city over it, embiggening, unsure.gif it's a perfectly cromulent word!, it's population to repel the invaders.

A few idea's exist in the other thread about what these symbols could be, along with how the ritual would take place and what is seen etc, check there for them.
rukimoro
can you explain more clearly, with examples?

Ffs.

THERE WAS ALREADY A THREAD ABOUT THIS. EXACTLY ABOUT THIS.

This is a bad idea, for the reasons listed in the thread WE ALREADY HAD ABOUT THIS.

The thread wasn't found by anyone who actually participated in the original discussion...well, except for me.

That doesn't mean it's not a terrible, awful idea.

It means that they may have an idea that actually makes sense/is better than whatever I posted. Selerin and Berenenenenene were going pretty strong in the other thread, let 'em do it here too and see if it wasn't just me being fail that caused the problems.

Deathsight spam isn't good enough?
Gorlasintan
It was the exact same idea. The 'proposals' in both threads were the exact same. There were no redeeming qualities in either.

You're wrong Gorl. The other thread was closed and the reasons given were for the orignal idea, that being an artifact that allowed you to tinker around with bombs. The reasons didn't address the side idea that came up, so shove it

The thread was not closed, and has absolutely nothing to do with bombs.

My apologies, I didn't see that thread. In any event, how is it a BAD idea. At worst, it just adds a bit of RP fluff to the game.

EDIT: After reading through that thread, it seems Boz said his suggestion was for the INVADERS to use this. My idea was for the defending city to use this. I thought that was what the original idea was for as well, but it seems I misread somewhere. Taking it from any side, of it being used by the invaders or defending city, I point back to my question above. I'm sure if you've got some newbie tagging along, or trying to help, but they can't do much because of whatever, getting them to do this could make them feel they are involved in at least some small way.

I always thought it was like raising the flag over the enemy fortress..I dunno, I just posted what I thought was suggested since Penth closed it.

That's fine. I want to know exactly WHY they think it's a bad idea. In both threads the usual forum naysayers, ever afraid of change, have said no, crap idea etc, without explaining why. As I said, at worst, this is a bit of RP fluff. But then, it could also give a newbie the chance to at least feel like he/she is participating in something rather then waiting on the sideline because they haven't transed all their skills, or haven't got a system in place yet, or even those older generations who don't or can't fight, rather then running and hiding, they could at least have something small they can do

Call me biased, but I prefer this.

That idea was actually pretty cool
Synbios
Hey, that red alert idea does look cool.

I think this idea makes more sense if it's done by the attackers rather than the defenders. If the usual raiders are sitting inside Hashan and someone raises an image of the Crown, they're just going to laugh, possibly yell something derisive, and continue to sit there.

I don't think it's a bad idea, as long as there's a limit to how often it can be done so people don't get spammed with eagles and whatever Mhaldor gets as its symbol every 10 minutes.

It adds nothing useful to the game. That's because it's a RP idea, and that's how all RP ideas are, they're not about being useful but about adding fun or cool stuff to the game. So instead of asking 'is this useful', we need to ask 'is this fun/interesting/cool' and 'will this help or harm immersion' ?
