Forging:

My idea is to change way forging works by adding gems to the forging to increase different stats.

Gold it being lighter will increase speed, but due to its mailable state it causes damage to be lower.

Diamonds: Due to hardness increases damage output. but the heavier weight cause it to be slower.

<not sure if these are in the games besides jewelry custom descriptions> Emeralds enchanted green stones that help the blade strike more accurate.

Numbers: at the cost of ten gems it will increase its stat point by one, and it would lower its opposing point by one (stacking of course ie: 20 +2/-2)now this point is added after forging calculation say you forged a 100 speed 100 damage 100 to hit rapier, now due to diamond it would be 99 speed 101 damage 100 hit. Basically the forging calculations take precedence and the gems just add 1 to that calculation. Now I also propose that it some what change the color so people can see for themselves

a rapier with a diamonds edge lies here

a emerald hued rapier lies here

Gold is heavier than iron and steel, why would it make weapons lighter?

I don't think this is necessary. Forging as a whole is fine, if anything needs changed at all it's individual weapons.

Also, where would the gems come from? Would they be new comms, able to be bought in various comm shops, would they be found randomly from slain denizens, or from quests? Right now, there's a generic "gems" commodity, and then gold and diamond dust, but other than that and maybe some quest items I'm not aware of any gems available.

While it would sort of make some sense in a magic setting, there's really no way someone could edge a sword in diamond, and if you had a gold sword, fighting someone with a steel sword would end up with yours bent in half after the first few strikes.

Actually, a golden blade would crack, just as iron or steel sword would crack in half if it was cast and not forged.

Though denizens who hit with golden blades tend to inflict far more damage than with steel (mhun keepers and knights).

Not sure if I understand this - if you can only add gems once to each item, it's not even worth implementing since it would make a tiny difference. If, on the other hand, you can do it as often as you want, min/maxing would become even more of a factor than it is now - for example, a 50/150/243 rapier would swiftly become a 10/150/283 rapier. Forging currently produces massively powerful items once every few hundred forges - i don't think we need forgers to be able to improve those odds by any means.

It might work if there was a limit to how much it could be done, or if it gave an increasing chance of destroying the weapon (like augment). All in all, though, I don't think forging needs this.

increase stats.

Since you dictated that it's stacking, this would end up being an artificial means of creating super-weapons.

The current rarity of these weapons is really all that prevents them from being a colossal nuisance. There should never be such a simple method of producing them.
