Question because I am utterly terrible at checking for overall effectiveness of class/race for PK and Bashing...

Paladin/Runewarden Classes...

Tsol'aa...are they tolerable?
Mhun...likewise.

Which is a better choice?

EDIT- this is my first combative character in all the IRE games I've played. *grin*
Borran
Mhun is definitely the better choice here. As a knight, you'll want strength to break limbs and deal damage faster, and speed to afflict faster.

Tsol'aa is more of a race for an intelligence-based classes with willpower troubles.

Mishgul
Mhun don't have strength! and strength should not affect limb damage as far as i know, not DSL wise, only weapon damage affects that.

You can do pretty well as an any race paladin if you get your venom combinations and curing done correctly. Knights are an extremely versatile class. Tsol'aa Paladin isn't exactly min/maxing but it can be competitive in the lower tiers and somewhat into the mid tiers of combat which is what I suspect you are aiming for.

Oh don't try Grook Paladin though. Anything else is fine.

Mm, that's actually exactly what I'm aiming for. Something moderate that's passable without being laughable. The change is mostly for RP purposes but I don't want to completely mess up the character and have to spend 100cr changing back to fix my mistake.

In any case, I didn't even bother to consider Grook. Starting off as an atavian, I'm certain that grook is the only race out there worse for bashing. Bleh..

I know Mhun doesn't have strength. I was listing off what most people look for in a knight class.

And I didn't know that tidbit about strength not affecting limb-damage.
Voy
For bashing you can be any race. However, for combat, tsol'aa could only really be regarded as a mediocre to weak race for paladin.

If you're leaning towards tsol'aa, consider how involved you want to be in fighting. If you want to go up against bigger opponents and such, you may want to start looking at the "better" paladin races, like raja, mhun, and such. If you aren't too hung up on fighting, or really like the RP of a certain race, then just choose whichever one you find most interesting.

As noted above, knights are very versatile - particularly paladins. You can be pretty much anything you want and still be effective.

Sorry for the misunderstanding!

If you are thinking of going Paladin you should bug Voy. Probably one of the best knights i've ever fought on a strategic level (as oppose to a oh lol i have arties and damage level)

And whatever you go, paint a picture of it. Don't forget tattoos!
Selerin
Thank you for your imput, everyone! I'll sit on my decision for a bit longer before committing to it. You've all been very helpful to me! smile.gif

And Saadya, I've already got pictures. I just haven't shown yet, haha!

Doubt it, suspect Tsol'aa won't be a good choice combatwise for any class until they give us spidermounts (back) wink.gif

Ah, you're right. I hate typos...I'd fix that but I can't edit it anymore.

Oh well.

Ah, Selerin. For a second, I thought someone bumped my old thread.

Anyway, to quote Trey's response there, "I'll tell you that the MAJOR problem isn't going to be your offense, it's going to be your ability to tank hits long enough for behead/cleave/whatever kill you want to make. Purity/arc is a nice damage stack just like Decay/arc is for me(Trey), but it's a bit slow to use effectively."

Mhun, on the other hand, have a balance recovery bonus to make up for their equally low CON and STR(though with Fury and Inspiration - if you're going Paladin - you can offset that little penalty).

Hallelujah, thanks for showing me that thread. I think it made all the difference in my decision.

Trey pretty much said exactly what I was concerned about. I'm not looking for super-duper tanker...

And I love mhun's balance recovery.

Personally, I enjoy being Troll Paladin. That extra chunks of HP, regeneration, and damage resistances are oh-so-delicious. That, and scoring obliterating crits with a 160+ battleaxe are ALWAYS satisfying.

Second to Troll, though, I would love to be a Mhun. Not being so rich as to be able to purchase artefacts, the lack of sip/herb penalties(unlike the faster Raja) allow Mhun to do well in the speed knight department.
