I thought we could all appreciate at least this idea! Instead of having to put give item123535 to person. You could do pick up 2.item. If you want to pick up the second item instead of the first item. Or choose another item like vault 2.tortoise. Instead of the first item. I imagine we could keep old system and add this to allow things to be easier to move items around.

This would be fairly useful if put in place, but I severely doubt it's nearly as easily coded as it would appear to those of us who are uninitiated.

I play another MUD where you can do that, I dunno how hard it would be to code but it is definitely useful.

This would definitely be useful. Very very very much so. Especially in rooms where there's two things in the room, one visible and one not, both with the same keyword. (I think I've come across that... once.)

Happened to me several times.
I think this was idead a while ago though. Not sure what became of it, or how long ago it was.

I've had it happen with conflicting items in my inventory and hidden in the room. It was annoying, because the stuff in the inventory is always checked first, I think, and I had about 30 of them.

I like this, I think the syntax could even just be 2item. No item names have numbers in them and id numbers are always at the end. We wouldn't really even need the period.

You can LOOK at something and it'll check the room first. PROBE checks inventory.
That said, this idea still needs doing. Preferrably in a manner that lets us PROBE things in the room first before checking the inventory.

Interacting with it always caused it to attack the stuff in my inventory. Goddamn sigils.

According to Sarapis this is 100% not feasible for the gigantic amount of time it would take. I talked to him a long, long time ago about it.
