Well, was wandering around one of my first days as a total noob, and came across the Crystal Leaf Inn. I often went there, since it was the only place I knew of that had food (back when the Crystal Leaf Inn was AWESOME). Well was starving, and realized I had no gold. Asked someone there if they could help me. The generous soul (forgot who it was; their name started with a D, male) bought me 10 mutton and then gave me 100 credits out of nowhere. I used 10 of them for lessons, while I played the credit market with the other 90. That is all I did for months, and I was making a great profit actually. Anyways, knowing nothing of anti-theft or thieving rules, I was robbed quite easily, and lost it all (recently was waiting for the credits to drop down a bit before purchasing). Was not even level 30 at the time which is lame.

My first Character was a Kharon Monk by the name of Ranuth. I remember liking Hashan a lot back then... can't stand it now. Not sure what happened. Didn't do much with him but bash, and hang out with the other Kharon folk. That was back in 03 or 04, I think. Probably longer. It was definately before autoclass, though.

Oh. Forgot to say, Jester. Started in the CIJ, but left. A few rogue jesters treated me better and we had some awesome times. Till they disappeared. I never saw them again.
Rynn
Jul 8 2009, 06:24 AM
I still play my first character off and on, so I'd like to keep it mostly anonymous. It is Cyrenian though, and when I first joined Achaea, Cyrene was just so nice and receptive that I made my next few characters in Cyrene as well (Rynn included). Getting nostalgic, so will stop here.

Jul 8 2009, 07:02 AM
Flair was my first character, but I made my share of mistakes. My first hour on I think I attacked a war witch in Ashtan twice because I'd only read about how to attack and didn't know about loyals, etc.
Arelas
Jul 8 2009, 07:24 AM
Arelas was my first character, but god was I dumb. I started out in Shallam and the Sentaari. I spent all my lessons on Tekura, but I didn't realize that it was anything more than some random rituals people were making me do, so I still used newbiekick for 3 weeks until someone mentioned that I could use Tekura combos. I then proceeded to join up with the Shadowsnakes and tried thieving, but it didn't work out because I was level 50 or so and didn't know how to fight. After dabbling in Sylvan for roughly two hours, I switched over to Apostate and became the person we all know and love.

I thought health elixir is something very precious and I never used it. I'd hit and run (hit, run away, sleep, come back). I thought voyria was the deadliest ability in the whole game, so I went Serpentlord after Magi.
Edit: so I can bash with voyria.
katia
Jul 8 2009, 08:53 AM
Katia was my first character, I joined the shadowsnakes out of the tour *didn't see that one coming did you!* but no one was on gw and I had no clue what was going on because I had never played muds before, so I quit and joined the serpentlords where I proceeded to be a little ooc on gnt until someone explained things to me a bit. (by a little ooc I said 'in the words of ned, okily dokily')
I was then drummed out of the guild by some of the people (mostly women) because I was too cheerful and too nice, and quit the game for about a month. Came back and was re-inducted and the people in question removed because it wasn't the first time they had kicked newbies out for no reason. Which is why katia became the cynical and cruel person she was.
I was illegally robbed as well, someone gave me generosity and followed me around as I handed out stuff, despite being only level 18 or so. Odd that I became a thief after that, but I don't do illegal at least.
Tael
Jul 8 2009, 09:37 AM
Tael was my first character and I can't think of any good newbie stories.
Early on I made an alt Maldaathi in Mhaldor though. I got up to the first test, had to do geography, and didn't think not to walk into Shallam while leading my proctor around. I was used to being Cyrenian and being careful not to get enemied to anything so the idea that someone would be enemied to Shallam was beyond me. I got executed when we went back to Mhaldor. I think being executed was probably the first impetus I had for joining Mhaldor later, I really liked the hardline RP.
Nulaye
Jul 8 2009, 10:10 AM
My first ever character was a siren Dawnstrider with my real name when the Dawnstriders were very new. I thought siren would be fun because it would be all women (ahaha) and I loved the idea of good-aligned assassins. Cecilia was my mentor.
A guy volunteered to help me get my inventory and some first starter levels. He walked me into the sewers and I died to a thug immediately and he just left me there. Then a couple of days later I logged in again to try some more and I thought I was safe in Minia when I met that stupid wandering traveller. I was so angry that Achaea would put a trap like that in the newbie area that I suicided and didn't come back for two years.
When I did come back, I tried to make a druid also with my real name and found it was taken. When I got in game I tried to send her a tell and was heartbroken and crushed to find out it belongs to someone's stupid giant bunny pet.

Poor Nulaye

My first character was a Mhaldorian Jester, but I switched to the Naga and went around thieving for a while. I stopped playing for a few years (lost my internet connection). I forgot the password on that character and the e-mail i used when i got back so i started over.
Azu was my first character. I remade him two or three times I believe. Each the same, a Sentinel Serpent. I remember being thrilled about the Sentinels. I loved it, and couldn't wait to log on to chat and mess around on hnt.
I remember Azu being a little fire starter cause he had a strong admiration for Mhaldorians and people who lived by the Seven Truths.
I eventually ended up suiciding him cause no one really liked him. Then I messed around with a whole slew of alts, found out who I wanted to be, and what I wanted to play as, thus Uzara being born.
Mathonwy
Jul 8 2009, 11:30 AM
My first character was a Kharon monk, named Zachar or Azachari, something along those lines. I started up a few, all with relatively similar names, to try out the different classes. Suicided them after I hit 'the learning curve' and came back after some time as Mathonwy.
ETA: I remember being horrified at some requirement about finding my way from Hashan to Minia and Lodi in 15 minutes.
Kallorn
Jul 8 2009, 11:46 AM
I first started playing as an Atavian Occie, but suicided a day later.
I then made a Troll Infernal and joined the Maldaathi. The Maldaathi are one of the reasons I continued playing. I thought the house was pretty awesome. I was randomly walking around during my second day playing, and some dude popped out of nowhere and started decaying me so I ran off (lol) and told someone in the Maldaathi. About two minutes later, the Maldaathi popped up and handed me the dude's head and taught me how to pike them. I piked the head south of the archway and thought I was pretty powerful. Then I walked into the Leviathan.
I made Kallorn ages after that. Kallorn was just an alt I was using to try the monk class again.
jarrel
Jul 8 2009, 12:04 PM
Ironically, Jarrel was my first character. He was a druid in the druid guild, I leveled up a lot and got conned by profit (back in the days when credits were 2k) where i bought credits from him and he illusioned transfering the credits but I never recieved them. Noone bothered him hand over the credits because he was badass so anyway I let it go, I made some credits by offering people lifetime supply of herbs if they got my concoctions up. Worked well, until I went dormant and received a slew of complaints and they went dormant soon after anyway. I then used my newfound buisness skill to undercut oakstone prices to sell herbs really cheap and ended up transing most of my stuff. Conor and Orina found out and had a bitch fit, Conor kicked me out while pretending that I'd left (note that most druids were noobs and didnt know they could readlog and other org stuff like that and believed him). So I was a rogue druid and in my fit of rage I became the greatest fighting machine the world has ever known. After owning pretty much everyone as a druid, I changed class and went maldaathi, which i then thoroughly proceeded to own as well thanks to vivisect. Finally got sick of maldaathi just sucking in general and left to become a sentinel with my e-buddy rangor and geraint. Cooper and Xenomorph tried to chase me down and hunt me, Cooper failed mainly because I triggered my spearspin hits to touch hourglass while dabbing double delph on spear so he d dsl me and put himself to sleep and the trigger would fire and strip kola, then i d just axethrow delph at him and kill him. Xenomorph....died to voyria because he didnt have immunity and thought it was because I was too OP (I died to his vengeance lolz) and made a huge issue about how hes bought so many credits and still died to me, called me a raghead and subsequently got maggoted. Theeen Sentinels sucked so I went jester and thoroughly owned that class as well without oblit simply because it has hierophant/juggling and mangle. I was king. Started getting bored because everyone would just run away or team me so I went monk and didnt own the class immensely like previous examples but still had a good rate of success. Got my first artefact and then a lot more and proceeded to own pretty much everyone thoroughly true to form. Got boring again and went Serpent.....thats when the - hit the fan and i became so crazy good that people were just hammering me with issues since I d rob people and never have to be scared of marks (they wouldnt take contracts on me) and they couldnt kill me themselves... then after a bad choice of trying runewarden (officially the most sucky class i have ever been), and a million shrubbings, i quit.

Made a first character and promptly got lost in one of the Ithmias. Wandered around a bit and stumbled upon one of the spirits/muses and proceeded to kick her. Got killed, enemied to all forests, ect ect ect. Suicided and waited another 6 months before I tried to play the game again, haha. I don't even remember which spirit it was or even the name of the character, she was so throwaway.
I was about 15 or so when I made her, so I want to say that this was in 2002 (Perhaps earlier) or so. I only tried to join because my OMG best friend at the time played. Then she ran away with someone she met on Achaea and I never heard from her again.

My first ever character was Tearriser, a Sentinel in Caspian's Order. I remember actually getting into the Order...being thrown off a tower, dying, and getting inducted. I was still in High School then, so it was 01 or 02. He got suicided, so I made Kestral which I played for a long time. He was Ashtani, and a Serpent in the Shadowsnakes. I quit him and made Parox, who was a Magi in the Magi guild in Ashtan, he was hacked and suicided, so Varrock was born!
Lisbethae
Jul 8 2009, 01:34 PM
Lisbethae is my first character, I have RL friends that were totally immersed in Achaea and I thought I'd try it, I mean, how much time would that take out of the day, really?
Underestimating the time sink is one of the biggest mistakes I made.
Bought a lot of credits, transed too fast and didn't learn the skills as I went. Another mistake.
Otherwise, I'm having a lot of fun with my Druid, Tsol'aa, Mojushai, Cyrenian, Nerai character.

Jul 8 2009, 02:47 PM
I was pretty pissed off at people messing around with my snap trigger and making me fall asleep. So I set my system to block out emoted snaps. I was learning a couple lessons while houseless in the library of New Thera. Someone snapped their fingers in front of me. Apparently that way of thievery is an emote and so I lost 3000 coins, but here's the kicker. I try to role play my character as overly nice to the point of clumsiness so I told him "Nicely Done" to which he stole my canvas backpack which contained around 50 vials of health, mana, elixer etc as well as my journal which I didn't think to copy and paste into notepad, and a couple of my sentimental items as well. I did get some good RP set ups from it though.

Exelethril is my first character. I managed to get kicked out of the Empyreal Assembly one step away from being ordained and the Church in a span of five months.
Wattsee a'Lenendra
Jul 8 2009, 03:17 PM
I started as Wattsee, made a few alts to test other classes, but decided to stick to Magi and they eventually got purged. Before my first login, I had read gobs of stuff on the website. How in depth it was actually prompted me to actually give it a shot. So I already knew I was going to Cyrene, I liked the ideals of the Arcane Kindred, and was just fiddling with the classes before I figured which one suited me best.
My first login, I fumbled my way through the Trial. I got to the Ring of Portals. I figured to read the signs, and went straight to Cyrene. But, apparently portalling into an unpopulated part of the City had me confused. I tried for damn near an hour to try and get Ophilia to talk to me, and nearly ragequit when she didn't want to talk to me, figuring the game was full of stuck up people willing to go about their daily lives and ignore new players.
Three days (a guesstimate) later I figured out the Honours command. I honours Ophilia, the stuck up wench I thought her to be, and realized what an ass I had made of myself. At least no one was there to watch me do it. Ophilia and I have had a great relationship ever since.

Jul 8 2009, 03:20 PM
My first character was a satyr bard named Tewdrig. It was my very first MUD experience as well, and I had absolutely NO idea what to do. I stood around the Archway for a long time trying to read as much as I could while the words kept scrolling by on the screen. Then I decided I should join the Bard Guild so that someone could explain what was going on. My orientation took place during the Vertani game of the Eyes -- so, as you can imagine, the world was moving very, very slowly. That orientation took about two hours thanks to lag. And I kept being told that I should not leave the city or I'd be killed. I thought that was pretty cool. Eventually I learned that the game is actually fairly "safe" unless you intentionally put yourself in harm's way.
Tewdrig went on to do innumerable stupid things. Like getting killed by Risashain. And winning some Bardics. Yadda yadda.
Quoren
Jul 8 2009, 03:53 PM
My first character was formed some five-six months before I made Quoren. He was an Atavian Priest in the EA, named something like Aiendale. I was totally lost and had to keep referring to the website map over and over again. It was around Logosmas of '07, I think, because I kept seeing the floating stockings and kept thinking "this is like DW MUD," since that was where I had come from. I got a mentor, read through the help files, and logged out and didn't log back in for months.

Bleak was my first character and Achaea was my first mud. I joined the apostate guild and stood at Pestilent way for a while. Suddenly some ogre almost planted his axe in my face and I punched him. I ended up getting dead and got executed after I finished praying.
Later I was told to copy the apogryphia in my journal and since Java didn't had a copy/paste function I just typed it all over. Since I was 17 back then, my English wasn't that good at the time and it was full of mistakes. I also didn't understand most of it.
Trevize
Jul 8 2009, 04:05 PM
Made a few chars a long time ago. Occultist, templar, and serpent that I remember. I think a few more. My templar was a priest at first but I hated not having fighting skills. Quit my occie when they made us outcasts if we kept Necro. Mostly played the serpent. Got bored and busy with life (met someone, started college, got married, and so on) and didn't find time for Achaea. Started again and made a couple of chars, Trevize was the only one I kept. Changed classes on him a lot but always went back to serpent.

Rianara is my first character but not my first MUD. I picked it up in college due to some friends. I originally wanted to be an occultist (from the description of guilds on the site) but decided to be a Dawnstrider due to my friend who introduced me to it having a Shallamese character. A few friends and I would play in the campus computer lab. I remember seeing an asp in Shallam and asked my Achaean veteran friend if I should attack it, he said he didn't know and I could try it if I wanted. So glad I decided not to in the end
Malachai
Jul 8 2009, 04:42 PM
First character was Zarkon. Thought it would be cool to be a druid. Took the interview or whatever and said I really liked cities a lot better cause they were more organized and that I wished to burn down the forests to make room for more cities. That one didn't end well.
Then there was Del, my real first character that most of you are probably acquainted with because you can't get a simple syntax right.

Haha I had to do that with Del when I copied the Codex.
I first started playing at the age of 13...that was..well, interesting. Regius got stuck being my mentor on my first ever character, he had to spend two hours teaching me to set up two basic triggers (Anti theft stuff). In addition to that, I was well known for trying to give Vellis dead butterflies (I spammed it and got slapped by three random older people) and later I tried to bash Vellis himself...I quit for awhile, came back and made a new guy, this one in the CIJ. I was playing with balloons and fell on the Delosian Bridge and broke both legs, and the only two others there were HR01s like me, with no mending. IIRC, that was back in the time when the CIJ didn't allow you to be a part of ANY city..so I asked over HNT and instead of mending, they brought booze and cactus weed and we partied until someone higher-up came and fixed my legs. Then we all went to the Stage and got hammered. Unfortunately, both of the HR01s suicided and then so did I. After being random for awhile, I decided to play again, bringing Boz and all my ikkle alts.

Jul 8 2009, 04:56 PM
My first character was named Babooshka or something like that. Was a jester back when the CIJ was a real guild. Some of the most fun I had in my life with constant guild plays and contests and such. Got engaged to Krystin, got grounded for 2 weeks, came back and saw she was engaged to someone else and suicided.
Made dozens of Shallamese alts, mostly dawnies or paladins. I used telnet so I had to handwrite the entire Codex then retype it into my journal. Ahhhh telnet...
Got grounded again and stayed away for a few years. Came back to see houses and made another Dawnie named Soleil. Did pretty well but got bored and left. Came back a few months later and made Plyth, the only character I've ever had to get past GR/HR3. Bought some credits and tried to learn combat.. doing okay I guess.

My first character was a Runewarden, Lothorien. I thought it would be a really neat idea to make an alt and kill it, and have it haunt Cyrene and the clocktower. I made sure no one would find the dead body and resurrect me by getting on Lothorien and hiding the body in the subdivision.
The admin put Lothorien in Time forever because of that.
Sefton
Jul 8 2009, 06:17 PM
Sefton is my first and only character in Achaea. I was playing a gangster game called Omerta for years and got fed up with it (when you died in Ometa you had to start all over at empty suit and it takes a long time to make Godfather) and I left and needed a new game to try. Floundered about a bunch of them and then stumbled on Achaea. Without a clue or an idea what it was I picked Bard/Cyrene/Ty Beirdd.
Turns out I was extremely fortunate with my choices because I have never changed class or city nor felt the need to make a different character.
I will mention when I was young I "solved" a mystery of sorts and that got me in good with some Druids and made my starting life MUCH easier with herbs, fills, and tattoos.

I was so lost that I'd log in for about half an hour, get frustrated because I couldn't figure out what I was doing or how to get there, log out. Try again in a few hours or couple days. It took several weeks to understand the game enough to stay logged in for more than an hour at a time. While I have a few other characters I dabble with from time to time. Myste is really the one I like the most. Good thing, too, since there was that hefty artefact purchase business. *cough* *cough* Surprisingly, I don't regret it.

my first character was a priest who did all the reqs was having alot of fun because I enjoyed the roleplay of priests and I enjoyed the people I hung out with in shallam at the time. I then remember the conversation on gnt and a simple converstaion got me demoted, and basically hindered me from learning anymore. It was at that time that I decieded that 1: I F'N hate priests, church, pretty much any one who has controls of your skills. 2: That Achaean guilds were horrible in that retrospect and I logged off of him and didn't come back till auto-class.
Auto-class Much better, its true not as much role-play as before because I was all about being good and going against evil..but then the guild just ruined it and I saw achea no longer as a roleplaying game but a place where it was tons of beuracatic red tape and if you make people above you angry, your most likely SoL

My first and only character is Asara. She joined Achaea at an ex-friend's suggestion who ended up trying to dictate everything Asara was to be, what orgs to join, what ways to act, etc., even to the point of telling me I couldn't log into the game unless he was also. I didn't join the same guild he was in, so we ended up as separate classes, and I was advancing in levels and knowledge so much more quickly than he that it pissed him off to the point of no return. Needless to say I am still here and the rest is history.
