Ok, I want to switch to MushClient, but honestly I'm completely clueless when it comes to mush. Is there a primer or a tutorial for complete newbs to mushclient like me? I know I'm going to have to learn Lua, and that I can do, but getting anything to work on mush is pretty rough since I've been using zmud for close to 8 years.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The mushclient forums have some really helpful links on them that would help you.

Like http://mushclient.com/faq

or

http://mushclient.com/scripting

or

http://www.gammon.com.au/mushclient/funwithtriggers.htm

and of course regular expressions: http://www.gammon.com.au/mushclient/regexp.htm

And of course, post here if you need help with anything.

and of course, MSG me on forums, in game, or IM me at Baatti@live.com if you have issues. If its something I can't figure out for you.... I'll ask Trevize and he'll know. Or you could just ask Trevize, cause he knows.

Speaking of which, guys... I been thinking about buying a clan for MUSH users. The clan's purpose would be to help each other out if we have issues. How you all feel about that?

Actually, that may be helpful for me. Once I finish the things I'm working on now, I was planning on seeing if I can find enough MUSHclient users who would want to help me work on creating a free system for MUSH. Plus, you know I'll join if only to answer questions.

I'd definitely be interested in that.
Quoren
I'd be interested once enough of my blasted clans get turned into High Clans to leave me with a few free slots.
Penquin
Trevize, I thought you already tried the clan thing, and ended up disbanding it.

Anyway, good luck with the new clan, and in learning MUSH

That was just an attempt at making a clan for newbies to ask scripting questions on, not for experienced players to discuss scripting things. The reason I couldn't easily turn it into one was the different clients - people didn't want to be spammed with stuff about clients they won't ever even use. From what he said, I imagine this will be one for both new and experienced players using a specific client, bypassing the problems I had.

So sounds like there is some interest... I'm going to go purchase the clan... I'll be in touch on the forums to let you all know the name and alias of the clan, and we'll get the ball rolling. I think MUSH is such a damn great client with few downfalls, but NO ONE uses it! Let's try and show the world how easy, capable, free, and AWESOME MUSHclient is!

Got mush over the weekend...I couldn't make heads or tails of it..I wouldn't say it is EASY at all. but I'm still working in it and it might get easier oneproblem though. when I opened up the alias (clicking the funky looking A on the top) and I moved the scripting window to my second monitor, I couldn't click back on the main window and still be in the game, is there a way to switch from scripting window to game window?

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking.. and trust me, it's easy when you learn where the things you need are. If you want live help, poke me in-game (and I can induct you into the clan too). smile.gif

Well, if I get what you're saying, you're editing an alias but you want to be able to play the game at the same time? Unfortunately, you can't because the alias dialog has focus and won't release it without closing it. It's never bothered anyone else so far as I know, or at least not cripplingly. Might be something to suggest at the MUSHclient forums smile.gif

Ok, because yea there are multiple (ok ALL the time) that I'm running scripts in second monitor and game in first. I'll suggest it but untill I can move back and forth It really does hamper my game play. (not to mention defeats entire purpose of why I run dual monitors in first place)

But on bright side I'll continue to try and learn the stuff and see what I can do with it.
Soludra
But why do you want to -edit- aliases while you're playing? That's what I don't get.

EDIT: If you ever get around to real scripting with your external script file, or even editing plugins, you can set MUSHclient to open those files in, say, Notepad, and then move that over to the next screen. But that doesn't really have much bearing on what you're doing right now.

Its not always editing, it sometimes is just a refresher, I use vadis-mapper and I have a alias's for alot of location that are tied to their name but some time I shortned it and I can take a brief glance at my walker class and see the alias and go ah ok. Also when I think something is working right, but when I go into the game and its then that I notice a typo I can quickly fix it. Its mostly just ease of play and it works for me.

Also for what your talking bout, sounds like pretty heavy duty stuff. I've been on zmud for litteraly years, and I'm guessing its going to take years of coding to be able to do the above stuff?
Soludra
You could pretty easily write - or have someone write - an alias that prints a list of names and room IDs to the screen, so you wouldn't have to look at the alias code itself (ugh). smile.gif As for fixing typos, I don't really see the problem with switching to the alias dialog really fast then closing it. *shrug* It's not like you fix a typo every five minutes.

On the topic of "heavy duty stuff", it really isn't! biggrin.gif The beauty of scripting with MUSHclient is that, if you give it a little time and have people who can help you with it, it's really quite easy to pick up, and you can do an incredible amount with it. The MUSHclient clan is full of people who are either learning or well-learned, and we can all help you out, so I really do suggest joining. smile.gif

Some days I do have to fix typos and small bugs every few minutes. tongue.gif

Yeah, but I would hope that that's only when you're actually working on that code... mellow.gif

I've been thinking about giving MUSHclient another try lately, it seems that zMUD is being intentionally spiteful sometimes. sad.gif

blush.gif I don't know whether to be sad it's messing up for you or happy you may be coming to the dark side.

Did this ever get setup?

I am new to here and am using Mushclient.

I was trying to setup some basic aliases to help me with fighting so that I didn't have to type out everything all the way but I am not sure how to get around the delays between actions and waiting for me to recover my balance. I've tried to look at some examples but can't really follow through them all the way. I don't know much (really nothing) about the game play so alot of the existing combat scripts have steps that I don't understand. If someone wouldn't mind walking me through the basics.

This is very useful for explaining the logic: http://forums.aetolia.com/index.php?showtopic=9054

You won't need to worry about delays when using aliases. When you get comfortable and want to automate decisions you'll need the more complex codes.

I think you'll need to play a little longer and develop a more specific question before we can really help.
