Hello everyone, I'm just starting a new character on Achaea, right off the bat I haven't ever played this game before, however, I've been playing Aetolia for a little under a year so I think I have the ropes down for how Iron Realms MUD's generally operate. I'm starting off as an Occultist and I was curious if anyone had any advice. I deicded to go rogue at first (A nice choice considering you couldn't become rogue until you gained class in Aetolia... always was a bore).

I'm up for any advice, in game or out, my character shares my forum name, Lilleth. Thank you.

Yeah. You will enjoy the game more if you figure stuff out for yourself. Not trying to be mean but it's true. I used to love Achaea so much when I was new and spent the time figuring out what was what and where was where and only asking for help if it was a life or death situation.

Welcome to Achaea though and I hope you have a good time. Occultist is a fun class to play and roleplay with. Try not to be rogue for the sake of being rogue. It's hard to get any worthwhile roleplay and purpose of roleplay if you start off rogue without a decent backstory.

And so far I'm doing it just to kind of see what Houses offer what, and roleplay wise, who's the most active (I'm a big fan of roleplay over combat and pvp).

And yeah Aetolia is very depression-esque. Even the LIGHT-assigned houses hated themselves.

I don't have an issue with you, i'm just suggesting that people like you (sterotypically) end up going down 1 of 2 routes.

Lillleth the single best piece of advice would be to not judge anything in or about Achaea by these forums. The Achaean forums have a good amount of people who don't even play Achaea anymore but stick around the forums solely for the trolling. You will find Achaeans within -Acahea- to be mostly helpful and accommodating just provide the proper amount of RP. Occultist is a good class to start out with if you're interested in learning a good bit of lore and history, I would highly suggest you join a house at least while starting out just to help build some ties and learn the true history and use of your skills. Having announced yourself as a total 'youngen' to Achaea you will want to make sure you quickly learn about theft and how to protect your belongings. Focus on Achaea first, after you find your place and have some ties THEN come back to the forums if you're willing to endure the constant trolling. Beyond that, good luck, welcome, have fun!

I heard a rumour that the Occultist House is pretty roleplay encouraging. I don't know, though, as I haven't joined it on any of my characters yet. One of these years, though, I might.

I only really take note of these comments when they haven't been said en masse to the person saying it to me.

I never denied it. I openly admit you're a cool guy, sometimes, on im. But in the forums, 95% of the time, you're a -ing idiot.

Roleplay happens around people, and since you won't meet as many people day to day as a rogue, you'll want to join a House and City pretty quick. And if you're just a rogue to figure out what the various organizations are like; well you can do that just as good in a House. You can always leave, or make a new character once you know what you like most. And if you give us a better idea of what you want to do with your character, someone here can probably point you in the best direction.
