Full Version: When Ic And Ooc Goals Clash

It has always been a delight to play Tahquil and her dull personality. I have always had a OOC plan for what she wants to achieve and have been able to accomplish most things I set her mind to while staying true to her personality. Being manipulative and discreet has always been a major point in who she is, along with obeying Shaitan and Apollyon.

However, She has been ordered to Join the Mark for two years by a divine which leaves me with two options. I either follow orders, potentially lose half my contacts in other cities, ditch the half of her personality which dictates she doesn't get involved in avoidable conflict incase the enemy can be used for information later on, and get griefed out of game will the current goals I work on are torn up and pissed on.

OR

She denies the order, is potentially metted out with very serious punishments, ditch the part of her personality that would follow orders to the end of time, and have all the goals I have already achieved torn up and pissed on.

Yes, I am having a sulk that a divine is trying to dictate how I play the game. It irks me that they are forcing my hand in such a way my options are going to make the game a lot less enjoyable.

Any options I haven't seen, do tell and advise me.

You serve Evil Gods who speak often about purging weakness, have been allowed to live a life for some time that allows you to avoid conflict and seek it on your own terms, and you are surprised when an Evil God forces you to step outside of your comfortable, self-defined niche? The contacts/goals issue resonates well with me, but I see few ways in which simply joining the Mark would endanger your interests unless you have been excessively manipulative for far too long.

Suck it up or prepare for the consequences.

I think joining Mark will probably work out better for you in the long run. It seems like you're overestimating how much it'll destroy some of the things you've worked on. It'll be an annoying few weeks, but I'm sure your char can recover. Since the Divine put a specific timeline on it, it sounds like He realizes this isn't your thing but is doing it to make sure you are obedient or something along those lines.

Recovering from directly disobeying an order from a Divine will definitely screw things up for you much more than two years in the mark.

My mind is already decided that that's what I am going to do, because anything else would be to far against the personality of my character. It sucks that for the last month or so I've been struggling to get to where I currently am xp wise and I'm probably going to lose it all in the first day. Yes I do like my precious txtp and I'm not afraid to admit it. I'm just annoyed that I've been placed in a situation where I'm forced to make this decision. it's like when you play a game for ages and make a lot of progress then die. Then find out the last place you saved was 3 hours ago.

Probably better as a rant now I think of it.

God I -ing hate that.

its YOUR game, screw the gods over, 90% of the time they don't help ya anyways. They can't force you to join mark. I agree with the XP part. I say play how you want to play. If you don't want to fight its your right as a player to do so. After all their own help file says they aren't admin personell so they can't force you into fighting. I can't think of any god player that's worth upsetting your game over.

You must have missed the part where she said that NOT fighting would also "upset her game".
Aerek
And the part where Achaea is not "YOUR" game. In fact, I'd say most of Achaea's problems come from those exact individuals who play it as if it is 'their' game. It's a multi-user, multi-player, dynamic world, where every player influences the players around them. Sometimes for good, sometimes for ill, but it all tells a story. That's the whole idea.

You're an apostate, right? With blackwind and soulcage there's no reason for you to lose xp if you really don't want to. I've lost roughly a level since joining the mark, but that's mostly because I actually try to stick around sometimes when Ovid and Daje are out and about.

This is what first came to mind. You don't need to become the next Tali or Akarin, or even kill very many people. I know you don't usually fight in the big raids, but if you just come skirmish with us a bit and follow Mali or anyone else's orders, you'll contribute, fulfill your obligation to Apples, and not derail your OOC goals.

I applaud you for sticking to your RP. Too many people give up their RP in favor of not getting their character into trouble.

Still, the OOC implications of it really suck sad.gif

Not that anyone cares but one day of Mark down and I'm actually enjoying myself quite a bit. Instead of the "ZOMG LAWL I GUN KCK U ASS" is was expecting from quite a lot of people most of the long sanding Marks have been quite helpful in when it comes to stupid mistakes I make and showing me what I have done wrong.

Cheers guys. wub.gif

If Apollyon's order works like Shaitan's order (I'm assuming that is the one you're joining), it wasn't a god that ordered you to go mark.

She's already in Apples', else she wouldn't be a Viceroy. I doubt these are pre-Order tasks.
Zulah
She makes a very valid point though in being -forced- to go mark or lose the quality rp enviornment you have created for your player. True Achaea belongs to the whole as its a multiplayer world but its each individuals ability to create roleplaying situations that makes it all work. If we told each player how specifically to roleplay they would all just be following the script and the enjoyment would be gone. Fortunately for Tahquil as an rp'ed player she doesn't have a bad reputation to try an work past to survive the mark.

It comes down to yes anyone should be able to join the mark after learning the basics and be able to progress from there expecting an average number of deaths. But Achaea holds too many 'Lol I keeled U bc U is a douchbag" If I went mark I would be griefed out of the game in a day. I already have people like Santar kill my mount everytime they see it even though its collared. Jump me in groups on clouds with the "I know your not open pk but you don't issue and we outnumber you" mentality. If your not a "no name", a top tier fighter, artied, or very good at always running and hiding the mark these days will grief you out.
Santar
I just killed your mount one time, man.

I wasn't complaining, I got it collared for a reason. Lets me ask why you honestly killed it though? I was riding it at the time, not like I left it somewhere. You did it for the 'lul' because you can. In all actuality there is nothing wrong with that. Its just that style of play why people like myself would not join mark.

While I imagine I am a "no name" for the most part, my experience in the mark has been almost universally positive. With the exception of Ovid/Daje, everyone who's wanted to fight me has either asked for a duel or at the very least jumped me on their own.
Terra
Really, being a Mark isn't that tough nowadays. Daje/Ovid'll probably try to gank you if you let them, but if you just be careful about that and use soulcage/blackwind when it happens, it'll be fine.

If you start getting involved with combat a bit more, you might even learn to like it! And being a combatant doesn't usually cause people to lose contacts, unless you're killing the contacts. If you're good, you'll probably gain more. biggrin.gif

Couldn't say it better!
SlyViolin
No offense but that's not Tahquil's style. She'll Blackwind if she is surprised by someone attacking her when she is out bashing. But only a few rooms so she has enough time between her and the attacker she can get ready to fight/die flailing ineffectually.
