Laiila
Mar 31 2009, 05:17 PM

This is a portrait of Laiila I drew while bored in business class today.
I'd love for it to be in colour, but unfortunately every time I try to colour in my pictures, I ruin them

I'm also not very happy with her left eye, but when I erase it and try again, it's no better.
Anyway, just thought I'd share it with you guys.
Any thoughts on it?

Thanks!
The problem with drawing in class is that now I don't know how to work out how elastic a product's demand is.
Or even what that means.

Great hair.
I didn't even notice the eye until you mentioned it, but it doesn't look bad, just slightly different than the right one. The key necklace reminds me of Kingdom Hearts.

The only criticism I have is to do with the eyelashes - they seem to go straight up rather than going out/being long and curving.
Very nice, otherwise!

Haha, yeah, that's what I thought when I found it!

Yeah, I think I'll change those.
I'd like to enter the artisanals sometime, but I don't think this is good enough. Perhaps if I put in a suitably Achaean background?

I think it would get at least a minor prize. I've seen entries like yours get merits and whatnot.
But yeah, giving it an Achaean flair with some backgrounds or perhaps something that wasn't a close up on just your upper torso would help your chances of scoring higher.
Edit: Actually, the first link in my signature won at least a merit, or possibly runner-up, I can't recall which. So simplistic things can still place.

I'm not sure how well I could draw a background. Or for that matter, what I would put! Any ideas?

Nifty drawing.
I'm being completely serious when I ask this: Are you the stripper girl? There are so many variations of L-vowels-la that I get completely confused as to which one is which.

No, that's Laila, with one 'i'. Not to be confused with Leila or Layla.

Laila is the "stripper girl", Leila is the bad mudsexer, Laiila is... I dunno, I don't know much about her. Don't know anything about Layla or the rest of them.

Yeah, I anticipated the cries of
"NEEDZ MOAR TATTOOZ" and added a starburst to her head, and a moon to her arm.
I re-did her eyelashes, will post the new picture later, perhaps when I've added a background. Not that I know what I'm going to put as a background! Any ideas?

http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk155/Prismilia/lines.pngThis is what I'd see that'd need corrections. The stuff I pointed out in red/orange. But what do I know? I'm a 14 year old animu artist.
Also: Please don't take this as any insult. I do like the image. I love that you're not doing anime like the rest of us. I just wanted to point some stuff out for improvement

I'm not at all insulted, I appreciate the constructive criticism! However...
Laiila's hair is meant to be big, she has big strawberry blonde curls!
And actually, her head is at an angle, her features are aligned if you consider how her face is positioned.
Also, your comment about her boobs isn't really valid, they ARE lower than where you drew them. You can only see the beginnings of some cleavage on my picture, and you drew them beginning right below the necklace.
I can't believe I'm discussing the position of my character's breasts on the forum...
Prismilia
Apr 1 2009, 06:17 PM
Ah, I thought that was midway. to where they were, ah well.
It's not as much as it's meant to be big as it is that it's just seems like the hair starts off way above where her head is.

How can you see any saggage, when all that's shown is a tiny bit of cleavage, and the tops of her breasts underneath clothes?

As for the background:
I'm not sure what city your character is a part of, if she is a part of any city at all. Where do you bash a lot? Where do you stand around a lot? Do you have a favourite shop? Just find a room you find particularly intriguing with a creative description and use it. I recall a great one Gnaash did with the Bard's Guild bar in the background, and his IC wife.

She's Hashani, but she also has a cottage in Cyrene where she spends a lot of time, so perhaps there! I'll put some thought into it!
EDIT: I'm drawing the garden of her cottage. And I'm going to put the birchwood wren MC bird in there.

I'd have to agree that the superimposed image that Prismilia provided seems to be at a different angle from the original, so some of the things that were mentioned are actually fine the way they are
Prismilia
Apr 2 2009, 09:41 PM
:/
different angle or not, the mouth and eyes are still crooked. It doesn't matter if the angle is whatever degree, one eye should never be a higher unless you're looking at a really obscure position, which you are not.
Have you ever tilted your head and looked in the mirror?

The problem with drawing in class is that now I don't know how to work out how elastic a product's demand is.
Or even what that means.
A product's elasticity of demand is the measure of responsiveness to a change in the product's price. Non essential products tend to have a more elastic demand curve but essentials such as food, electricity etc etc have a more inelastic demand curve which tends to look more vertical on the graph. Generally, in a free market, a producer who charges higher prices on an inelastic product can enjoy higher revenue without much effect to the amount of the product demanded, thus leading to higher revenue.

Apr 3 2009, 04:16 AM
yes, I have. But it's STILL unaligned. it's not of the angle, they're UNALIGNED. It might be slightly tilted up, but either way, it shouldn't be that high.

The eyes are completely level with her head, as far as I can tell. Maybe a couple millimeters off, but nothing significant.

There's nothing wrong with the alignment of her eyes

It's easy once you get the hang of the elasticity of demand and supply.
