Full Version: Advice On Roleplay

After reading through various threads on the forums, I've come to realize there is quite a bit going on roleplay wise(please don't laugh. I haven't been logging in much for the past few months and really don't know what's going on in the world of Achaea).

What I'm needing advice on is how to get involved in some or one of these current venues. I assume it can't be as simple as just being in the same city/room/area/whatever as those who are involved with it and hope I get dragged in somehow. Also, I don't feel comfortable as a player just approaching one of these people just out of the blue to question about the events, either IC or OOC, because I will be using OOC knowledge of the events to drive my character's interest.

I believe getting involved with one or more of these "events" would help make things interesting again for me, and I would like to take the opportunity to make my "mark" on Achaea or at least those involved.

For clarification, I don't have any particular character of mine in mind to pursue this. So, try not to give advice with any of my characters you may know in mind. Although, it certainly won't be rejected. I am welcomed to any and all ideas. I'm just looking for general advice. smile.gif

Edit: I also want to use this as a way to get more involved with other people outside my circle of IG friends and family. That's who any of my characters mostly associate with and when I log in and not see any of them in game, I tend to just immediately log out because I won't have any fun otherwise.

Not knowing any of your alts, any of your characters, etc., the advice I have is pretty simple. It becomes a matter of knowing who particular 'key' people are, and cultivating some sort of relationship -with- those people. Regardless of what city you're from, or what orgs you've affiliated yourself with, its fairly easy to pick out the individuals that are in the know, and/or are more likely to actually become involved in whatever grand-scale RP events are looming. Once you know the players, figure out the reasons your character would know them. Friends? Someone you admire, aspire to be like? Romance? Sworn enemies? And it serves twofold in your favor. Individuals who are more prone to being involved/included lean towards being those with a strong flair for RP, so by deliberately trying to surround yourself with individuals like that both 1) opens up the potential door for your own involvement, and 2) gives you actual examples of what good RP is.

I wouldn't worry about using 'OOC' knowledge to ask questions about IC events. Gossip travels faster than anything. If the Sky Lord blew up the Sea Lord's friggin' temple in Scyros, well, gossip of that magnitude is known to pretty much everyone, immediately. (And it was, considering it was a world-wide message)

Taking OOC information IC is dealing with item numbers, personal matters, or small events that you otherwise wouldn't have known. When the God of Chaos shouts to the God of Valour, "Hey, mosey on over to the Sirrocians, We need to have a chat," if you actually lived in Achaea, you'd know about that, whether you were there or not. (Hell, I was there for that one, and people who weren't there knew exactly what was going on as fast as I did)

You just need to find someone to talk to that Trendor/your other characters do know, have known, or could feasibly meet. A Hashani Infernal chatting up a Shallamese Vizier would be strange. That same Infernal talking to a Spiritwalker Babelonian should feel natural.

Thanks Aerek. I'll keep that in mind as well.

Work to move up in your Orgs. The higher up you are the more you get told, the more you get involved.

Working up in your Orgs is part of the fun, try and avoid using OOC means to do so though many people do abuse contacts OOCly/give great head to do so.

This is something I will be working on with my main, Trendor. Other characters I play don't belong to anything other than a city and/or clan(s).

I've started playing a Mhaldorian I started a few months ago. It looks like it will pretty fun with all of the conflict that seems to be going on and the potential for roleplay is definitely there. Now to just (hopefully) play my cards correctly and get involved in things somehow.
